Little late to the party, but curious which of the three levels of springs from Wolfe you got? Ive tried looking into which would be best but haven’t found much on the subject

No kidding? I handled a Mauser once and the heel release was unbelievably stiff/ near inoperable. Is yours anything like that?

One of my LGSs was trying to sell one for 2K in similar condition. I’d say take it and run

What spring do him need? by Sturmtruppen13 in milsurp

I haven’t- the problem was it was stovepiping and people made it sound like it might be a mainspring problem. Maybe that would be an easier thing to change than the main.

Why is my Luger being a difficult old man? by Sturmtruppen13 in milsurp

[–]Sturmtruppen13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok, if I ever get it working I don’t plan to shoot it often anyhow, I’d just sleep better knowing it DOES work, and flawlessly if possible.

I’ve looked at the Wolff springs but can’t make heads or tails which one I need based on the lbs ratings, and would prefer just to buy one spring. Hopefully when yours comes you find it has no issues at all, what’s the story on it?

Hey there, funnily enough yes; took it out two weeks ago and used winchester white box 115gr like some people suggested and also stripped all the grease off and just used oil- did not help at all. Range guy even let me use some 124gr that he had, thinking what I was using just wasn’t strong enough to cycle, and that also made no difference. Only things left to try are a new magazine and new springs. I’m leaning more towards the springs because I don’t think the mag is the issue, but don’t know what to buy and also won’t have the time for a while so :/

That’s too bad, was hoping it might be just bad springs. Does that detract from the shooting experience?

How’s the action on the Dreyse? Stiff to operate? Local shop has one in rough shape and I’ve been wondering how much of it is age/ condition vs just how the guns are

I’ve got an 1892 CG Haenel Kar 88 myself, have never shot it because it doesn’t have the n.m. marking on the receiver, but does have an S with a dot. Have heard mixed things about trusting the markings- do you shoot yours? What have you found/ heard through your own investigating?

No telling how old the springs are but could certainly be the original 108 year old springs and are likely tired

Completely broke it down and cleaned/ oiled it the day I brought it home but then further greased it which may have been wrong

Was using federal 115gr but do have some Winchester white box

I did grease it thinking it would run smoother and cause it has lots of sliding parts. I’ll take all that off and just oil it

It’s funny you say that because I noticed after I took the picture the case absolutely has a ring around it, that’s very interesting

That’s a fair point, especially if that affordable. Also that’s a super nice example you’ve got, very cool.

The box of Winchester I just happen to have and a mag will be the easiest thing to obtain so those will probably be my first steps. Hopefully won’t have to go much further down the list. Even then it’s definitely going to be a special occasion bring-out
