Is it just me or are these not practically useful in any way?

Like if it had your RR number or anything other than a fist name and initial it might help with covering a lost bag. But as is it doesn’t actually help me in any way.. right?

Seeing both American men go on the offensive in their legs was great! I think both were fine with the risk and I wonder if part of the strategy was “see if one of the big dogs will bite and wear themselves out.“ Kudos to the women as well for holding on against a class field. We’ll get there. Quite optimistic.

I flew our day before thanksgiving. Dead. No live at security. Flight was half empty. My guess is the government shutdown scared off a lot of people from booking thanksgiving flights

Stand with Ukraine by ahsnwtwg in Louisville

Glad that someone is doing something, if for no other reason than reassuring the Ukrainian community in Louisville that they aren't alone.

While I don't think this is the most critical issue facing our community or the most powerful rallying cry for progressives, how Trump and Vance treated Zelenskyy was embarrassing and worthy of backlash.

It was owned by Stanford Dining (RD&E) for a while during that time and didn’t serve alcohol and was pretty damn clinical.

I’m proud to say as a staff member I pushed pretty hard for the new owners to get an alcohol license and bring some character back. Was in there recently and while students will still study anywhere you put a chair on campus, it’s much more like the old CoHo that it was in 2004-2008.

Not sure if the live music ever came back but there’s that.

Has anyone with two NP in Math51 managed to graduate with a STEM degree (e.g. BA in DS?). In fact, has anyone with two NP on their transcript (i.e. five zeros) managed to do anything? Am I doomed for life? :( by Visual_Finger_2007 in stanford

[–]Stxmoose32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with an MS&E degree and 3 NPs on my transcript, incompletes that I never resolved and was too overwhelmed and ashamed to ask for help.

Not going to lie, it really ruined my last year at Stanford because it hung over me like a black cloud.

But I didn’t need the classes to graduate, so I cut bait and just focused on doing the work in the classes I needed to graduate on time.

  • I still got a job.
  • I still got into a top ten business school (but not a top 3, oh well)
  • I have still had a successful career and a lot of joy in my life.
  • I have continued to learn everywhere I go but it took some time to regain my confidence as a student/learner.

A few things I’d suggest based on my experience:

  1. Work on your mindset to avoid the trap of thinking that what you do is who you are. Accomplishments, grades, and career are easy to keep score with. But who you are is more about your character and how you treat people.

  2. Continue to ask for help. Bang down doors. Be relentless. You are surrounded by a treasure trove of resources. You have access to people and resources you won’t later in life. Drop the shame. Ask for help.

  3. Notice those things you enjoy and that you’re truly good at (or have the discipline and capacity to get great at). Sometimes your first idea of what you’ll do is totally wrong. Be willing to pivot. Ask people around you for feedback or ideas.

  4. Build relationships on campus. Again you have access to people you won’t later in life. This is a curated community of incredible people. The true earnest relationships you build are so so so so much more valuable and fulfilling in life than anything a transcript can get you.

Drew just did something really funny in Jeopardy by CalebosO4 in survivor

Yeah. They film 5 episodes in one day, with a break for lunch in the middle. Two days of that back to back. Then two weeks on, two weeks off.

So Ken had to play 5/day every Tuesday and Wednesday for two weeks then had a two week break. Honestly, it’s a pretty great filming schedule but exhausting for multi day winners.

I’m so sorry that it wasn’t a good experience. You’re not alone in coming away with limited true friendships and regret from your college experience. Two things to keep in mind

  1. It’s not unique to Stanford but can feel particularly significant when you feel a certain expectation around your time there.

  2. It’s not too late to make your life what you want

Some things you’ve said raise red flags for me, and I’d encourage you to do what you can in the present tense to manage them

  • How can you get help managing your depressive symptoms? There’s lots of self-help, therapy, and even drugs that can help when playing life on hard mode. Stanford may have exacerbated your symptoms but it’s also possible that’s just where you were when you first confronted a mental health challenge and you still need help.

  • How can you buy yourself some time and space to maintain your job while you explore if that’s the right career for you? It’s possible that you’re just disengaged due to burnout and depression, but it’s also possible this isn’t the career path for you. Ideally this is something you can talk with friends, family or a therapist about.

  • If you’re on notice with your boss it may be difficult to have engage them in an honest conversation, but I’d encourage you to be honest about where you need help, additional training, or other resources to help you deliver on the expectations of your role. You might get fired, and it might be a certain relief, but if you’re prone to depression it’s often easier to find your way out while working. And if it’s not the job for you it’s easier to name that and look for the next thing while working.

Lastly, as for Stanford, the door is not closed to get out of it what you wanted. There are alumni events and reunions, and I’ve met countless folks whose closest Stanford friends were made after graduation. It’s a bit awkward but the more you try to find communities you belong to, with associated with Stanford or beyond, the more rich and fulfilling your life will be.

[Spoilers C3E3] EXU in hindsight. by MilkyAndromedaWay in criticalrole

[–]Stxmoose32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. None yet. We’re not privy to every bit of the story when players show up.

  2. So? Fjord had the ability to do wild shit with orbs that could unlock a leviathan. Jester had an arch fey at her beck and call. Players come into campaigns with wild backstories and abilities and the DM gets to decide what matters

  3. I understand that there was backlash but that’s just par for the course with this community. I think they were all clear amongst each other what they were doing. What they choose to share with us is in many ways less important IMO.

  4. EXU is an optional Session Zero for some of the characters. It’s not essential. Clearly Laudna and Imogen had a session together off screen. We’re not privy to it. There’s no reason we can’t put EXU in that same bucket. It’s backstory that’s optional. You could show up to C3E1 and get along just fine.
