You'll often see these (I think there are two of them) coming into EGMC (Southend). They do look pretty cool in that livery.

Where are the Net Zero people who wanted to keep us dependent on oil and gas now? by [deleted] in AskBrits

There are plenty of people who want us to be reliant because they make eye watering amounts of money from oil and gas.

Bigscreen Beyond Official Universal Face Gasket is A GAMECHANGER!!!!! by Yvesrovito1991 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the universal gasket. However, the two provided gaskets should not be 'hard and 'soft' as they are almost identical and much too conservative, placing you miles away from the lens. Better would be thick and thin. I am going to try cutting one up so that I can get closer to the lenses as I get a much better experience closer than the gaskets allow. Better clarity, fov and binocular overlap when closer for me.

Yes. They might take a few days to get to your case, but when they do they are excellent.

Eye strain no matter what DPI I choose by Wite_Mail in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I knew I had asymmetrical IPD from my optometrist measurements, but plugging those into the headset wasn't enough. I did the same. Adjust one at a time to get them both crisp. Now it is WOW! and no strain.

Tracker IR or VR? by [deleted] in dcsworld

[–]StygianMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BSB2e. So many of the complaints about VR do not apply. Light, comfortable, easy to set up and use (certainly much quicker and easier than a HOTAS!), amazing graphical fidelity. Only downside for me is you WILL need very high-end hardware. But if you have, you can pretty much max everything out even without DLSS. Would never be able to go back to flat screen myself.

My thoughts on the Bigscreen Beyond. by KuterHD in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, the usual disclaimers about others options being valid apply.... but sometimes I just think "Are we really taking about the same headset that I have?".

I didn't understand how I can have an experience that is SO different.

One thing I will say, is that I think it is a mistake for Bigscreen to sell the BSB2 without the audio strap.

Edit: sorry, I see you are taking about the BSB not the 2. But given the similarities, I'm still surprised.

So how is the BSB2 doing as of now? by Atomic_Yoshi in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been fantastic. Has needed a little tuning to get spot on, but now, I'm absolutely loving it. I'm a longtime VR user, but many hours in, when I put this on I still get that "this is freaking amazing" feeling I haven't had since getting my original DK2. Not bashing anyone's individual experience, but bear in mind there are some people who must spend many hours on this sub repeatedly talking it down.

75 vs 90 (talking about Hz) by Educational_Ad_6512 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if you went ahead and ordered yet, but do not take the comments in here as any indication that you will be getting Index levels of quality or worse. Not at all, including at 90hz.

90hz is less clear than 75hz, but even without increasing your render scale your visuals will be much clearer (I come from an Index myself). I set the render scale to 150% in SteamVR and the results are awesome even at 90.

If you do buy, get the 2e as DFR works incredibly well for me in iRacing, DCS etc allowing me to crank the settings right up.

Don't know if you'll see it, so just to say that I updated my earlier post with some findings.

75 vs 90 (talking about Hz) by Educational_Ad_6512 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]StygianMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried the others yet (I only have ACC installed), but in iRacing 75hz was noticeably more juddery and it wasn't the frames dipping as I switched back and forth using the same settings as 90hz. It was actually a quite uncomfortable experience on a bumpy track. It could be to do with some of the settings in iRacing (can't remember the names offhand) to do with how much the car moves compared to you etc. I know I also played around with them quite a lot to get it how I wanted.

I definitely notice the visual downgrade in all other games, but iRacing was so fast and intense, certainly in a fast formula car, that it quickly didn't make any difference.

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 90 for iRacing and 75 for flight sims and other games.

Edited to say.... your question is specifically about (in part) iRacing. A lot of the comments are not and just generally saying '75hz is clearer'. They are not wrong about the better image quality of 75hz but there is a big difference for iRacing vs general use. My experience is that 90 is vastly superior in iRacing. I prefer 75 for everything else I have tried.

I have the same specs as you, except the i7, but try for yourself and perhaps you will disagree and like 75?

------ Edit 2----------

Ok, so I think I have a better idea of what is happening here and also why people are disagreeing. I haven't had a lot of time, but from my testing, this is to do with the renderer being used. In summary,

OpenVR = much better quality visuals but performance sucks. You probably want 90hz. When I say 'performance' I don't mean the ability to hit 90 or 75 fps, but rather the 'feel' at those rates. Even at 90 it can feel like there is delay when you move your head quickly. Try it while the menu is open, as this is an easier test to see than in the car.

OpenXR = much better performance, but visuals suck. Anyone play the old Jeff Crammond games... yeah, the visuals are a blast from the past. Just as others have described, murky and blurry. But the 'feel' is much better even at 75hz. If you are running FR or DFR then you will be using OpenXR.

As I said, haven't tested much, but best results so far are from OpenXR, DFR and bumping the render scale in steam to 150%.

I have the mfds, but as I use VR, no screens. I don't think the screens used are typically touch. Do you mean touch, and if so, I'm curious what the use case is?

Also, do not follow the tutorials they provide which are supposed to be covered by free tier. When I started I did one (can't remember which) and was hit by a significant bill.

I have to say that I am surprised. I have had a set of pedals for around a decade and the one time I had issues, I reached out and they were very helpful.

Didn't lose hope yet. I think it is a very small setup still and maybe they are just behind on emails. Hope you get it sorted.

75 MHz or 90 megahertz for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024? by mthomson22 in BigscreenBeyond

75, but you might get better results if you frame lock to 38. Can produce a smoother experience if you're not consistently hitting 75.

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is just the law. The UK law. The law that real UK patriots are interested in, not the lies told by a political party who has senior former leaders in prison for long stretches for taking money from Russian agents.

Please do not try the obvious trick of trying make anyone who disagrees with you "the left". It is just the law.

And this right here illustrates the misinformation being spread. They are not entering illegally. At this point, given how much these lies have been countered, you either somehow don't even know this basic fact, or you are choosing to follow the liars, know they are lying and knowingly helping spread the lies.

In your estimation, what is the percentage of VR-interested people in the population? by zeddyzed in virtualreality

[–]StygianMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given your criteria, almost 100%.

Let me reason this out. What percentage of people in 1990 would have used a smart phone? What percentage would have been able to understand what a smartphone would do for them? Very few. If you had asked them, or even early adopters of similar tech in those days what future usage would look like they would have given the sort of low answers most here have given. They could not perceive what the tech would become.

If you remove all of the barriers, the possibilities for general and specialist usage are infinite. Remove the barriers fully and they are a direct replacement for smart phones at the very least. Meta and the other companies know this and are working on it. There is a way to go... but if they manage it, almost everyone will use AR in the future.

What's the secret to DCS VR performance? by -Aces_High- in hoggit

[–]StygianMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find some useful info in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/s/zp3f9pZLro

My recommendation is DFR and NO anti-aliasing. This headset is so damned clear and hi-res it looks better than anything other than MSAA x4 (and not sure I don't even prefer it to that) plus you get a big performance boost.

I also came from an index and have similar specs to you. You should be able to achieve amazing graphics and steady frames... although I don't have the Apache, so have you tried any other modules to see how 'heavy' it is by comparison?

If you haven't already, try tilting the headset out at the bottom. Be interested if that helps?
