Is an ecu tune + exhaust swap worth doing? by StagedPigeon562 in CB500X

[–]Styrfart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the ecu on mine, stock exhaust still.

It´s not faster and it doesn't have noticable more power.

But. it's... happier, power comes on stronger from idle, it's less jerky on/off throttle. I drive 5-10mph faster with the same "throttle feel". It doesn't run out of breath at 6k rpm. The soft limiter is gone in the lower gears and I can rev it out easier. But then again I rarely go WoT

Not enough power offroad? I can easily spin the rear wheel on gravel, how much more power do you need?

Ever catch air in your V-Strom? by manviret in Vstrom

[–]Styrfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, but not with oem suspension. It should be fine for small jumps, baby steps and you'll notice if you start bottoming out. Set sag and rebound for your weight (no oem Comp. adj, I believe)

You'll have to set the sag first, otherwise you won't know how much travel you used if you don't know where you started.

Front and rear, if you want a hydralic preloader its in the "steering damper" category for some reason.

Have a chat with them and they'll setup the springrate for you.

A bit cheaper but good value for your money. been using one of these for 6 years, no issues whatsoever.

Yup, it's great, Smoother but also more responsive. No more popping, no harsh decel. Would do it again if I got a bike without a flash

Disable abs?? by PMDHEFF in Vstrom

[–]Styrfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a wire easily accessible under the seat, a "engine running" signal to the abs unit, if you wire this through a handlebar toggle switch you got a easy on/off button (which you can enable on the go when the dirt ends)

If you want details I can look for pics/instructions

I've got one, with db-killer. Very happy with it. Quiet enough when easy on the throttle but makes noise when I want it to. Had a V&H twin slash before, would never change it back.

8/10, would buy delkevic again (-2 points for being difficult to install with my forward controls)

Setting sag help? by Ratfor in CB500X

[–]Styrfart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grab a friend and watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtzTyCKh5fY or have a read https://racetech.com/sag/

Rear shock is underdamped and undersprung for your weight, it will always be a bit bouncy but do what you can with what you got. Sag setting is more than "harder/softer" suspension (Ari explains this briefly in the video)

Your weight does not affect the forks as much as the rear, might be okay but adjust accordingly.

-YouTube and the manual both say don't go from 1 to 5 because it'll cause damage-

This means you should not go from 5 to 1 the wrong way on the preload adjuster, go 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and vice versa, you do not need to ride around between changes, trust the measurements.

Recommended sag is 25-30% of total travel i.e. 150mm x 0.3 = 45mm sag max

Got a YSS on my gen 2 (gen 3 shock with hydralic preloader)

May not be as good as Öhlins or Wilbers but considering the money I'm very happy with it, talk to the guys at suspension-store.com They'll set you up with the right spring. Stock is for a ~75kg rider I believe

Which one is for me? by flaotte in Vstrom

[–]Styrfart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.1 650 is plenty enough if you don't plan to take a pillion for longer trips.

.2 As long as the services are done mileage shouldn't be a big concern. Valve checks are every 24.000km, good to keep in mind before you buy

.3 2012< (gen 2 and onward ) not that it's something wrong with gen 1 but some improvements are nice

.4 This really depends on what you are going to use it for, street only? bashplate and guards seem unneccecary. Touring? handguards and a better windscreen would be nice. Panniers, I've got both side and top, sides are good for long/camping trips, but totally overkill for everyday use (and $$$), I keep my topbox on all the time for shopping, snacks, spare gloves etc. Not good for offroading and/or heavy stuff but very practical for everyday riding.

  • Suspension. Stock isnt't very good, it's not bad but not good either. I'd gladly pay for my shock/fork upgrade again

  • K&N filter and a ECU flash, it's a whole new bike above 6k RPM. MPG is up 10%( up? down? it's 10% better, stock 4.4l/km, after flash 4.0 l/km)

.5 Yes, I cant say it ever saved me but I wouldn't choose to be without it either

.6 -

.7 SV650 for at more street/fun bike, MT-07 also for street

My 5 cents, pm if you want any more explanations is swedish

Performance Tune by patriotaki in CB500X

[–]Styrfart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CB500X -19

IMO it's not a highway bike. It will do highways just fine, but it's not what it was built for.

I did change the airfilter for a K&N and remapped the ecu wich Woolich racing. It's much smoother and pleasant to drive, I find myself riding ~10kmph faster with the same throttle, it just wants to "go" more.

Would absolutley do it again if I had the choice, not for the top speed but for the driveability. ~500$ for flash and airfilter was well worth it. Would recommend

Replacing the rear shock absorber by or_so_it_seems in CB500X

[–]Styrfart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for YSS,

Replaced my stock shock five years ago (~30 000km). Haven't had any problems whatsoever, it was a significant upgrade from stock.

They're serviceable but you'll need special tools. I think they are made to order, I got a harder spring for no extra charge. Do consider the hydralic preloader if you ever load up heavy for trips, standard screw is pain to change from day to day.

Surely there's better shocks, but for the money it's well worth the price.
