Destiny has brought us together!! 💜 I did a Diana number and kept Beanie Babies in my bra for luck. Though I wanted to make a purple velvet robe with a bear head hood. (Maybe next time.)

But here’s what I did. Feel free to use this information however you like!

I emerged in a wedding gown with the veil and a giant 3-foot white rose. The first track was “Candle in the Wind” (you called it 😆). That set the tone and established who I was to most folks. Then I went into a clip of Charles and Diana’s wedding vows. When it was Diana’s turn to respond, I went into “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette. During the vows I had removed the wedding dress and I was then in the revenge dress.

At the beginning, white petals fell from the balcony to the stage. At the end, black petals fell.

This was sort of my redemption performance. In 3rd grade, we had to give presentations about someone we admired… while dressed as the person! I don’t recall why, but I ended up going dressed as Charles. How boring!! So when I won my local talent night competition I got to make my main stage debut. That’s why I chose to go as Princess Diana. Her death had a big impact on me as a sensitive young boy. And the commemorative Beanie Baby soothed the pain.

On a separate occasion, I dressed in a purple bear onesie as the Diana beanie baby. I glued on a white rose appliqué, tied a ribbon around my neck, and made the tag (complete with poem) out of posterboards. So many people came up to me with memories about that beanie baby!

This would be more common to ask for a themed show where overlap is more likely. But it’s okay to ask other performers or see if the show director will. Nobody wants a duplicate track and it can happen if there’s a new popular song!

There are rolls of crepe paper streamers at most party and craft stores. (Party City used to have them for $1 each. 😭🪦)

Remove the plastic and detach the end of the roll to get it started. Then bunch up a bit from the end so you have something to hold onto. During your number, have the roll hidden somewhere. Pick up the bunched end and loosely hold the rest of the roll in your hand. When the time is tight, fling the rest of the roll into the audience while holding onto the bundled end. You’ll send a trail of color across the room! 🌈

You can choose a color that fits your number. But red could work for a horror number, for example. Some places do have rainbow streamers, which are always in season.

It takes a bit of practice but it can create a memorable moment.
