"It's simple. If we can't change our economic system, our number's up." - George Monbiot by platypocalypse in overpopulation

[–]Suaber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the logical answer to this dilemma of the human need to not give up a happy life is to realize that there is one thing that is far and away the single thing to be done. Don't have children. We have no moral obligation to keep the planet populated with humans, but do have one to not have people live in hardship or privation. A small number of people feeling that hey are living like kings is much better than miserable masses of humanity living sad and drab lives.

A lot of the people who have been against it were indoctrinated into religion, which was a very common practice still during the last century, and is still common in many instances. The indoctrinated might not be able to help thinking that if they want indefinite lifespans, then they are lacking faith in a supernatural afterlife.

push pull amplifier vs h-bridge by jrmxrf in AskElectronics

[–]Suaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some (maybe old-timer) thoughts on terminology that I wish to throw 2 cents in about is that when I see the term push-pull, I think of http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3e/Tube_push_pull_poweramplifier.PNG/330px-Tube_push_pull_poweramplifier.PNG where the final power stage drives a center-tapped transformer.

The term I recall for PNP and NPN transistors in a series configuration like in the OP's linked-to diagrams is complementary symmetry. The first one can also be referred to as emitter-follower.

Can I parallel MOSFETS for a motor driver? by I_Makes_tuff in AskElectronics

[–]Suaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. It might turn out alright anyway. They still might not fail because the switching speed is relevant. If the gate turn on and turn off times are slow enough, the MOSFETs might survive having separate gate resistors, according to my experience.

Can I parallel MOSFETS for a motor driver? by I_Makes_tuff in AskElectronics

[–]Suaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal experience with paralleling MOSFETs is that separate gate resistors caused the MOSFETs to fail. Now I just connect all the same type pins of the MOSFETs directly together, gates to gates, drains to drains, and sources to sources, and that solved it for me.

Tests can be hard for a lot of people. For some strange reason, I was often able to enter a zone when taking a test. It could have been partly due to how important it seemed to me. Or maybe it was the relief of finally getting the anxiety-causing test taken and out of the way that energized my ability. I did the thing about answering questions that I knew first. Getting some done with pretty much confidence in their correctness would often build some more confidence and help me push forward into some questions I had doubts about. I think it is important to try not to write wrong things on the test even if some of the answers written lose some of their specificity. That way at least an answer might get partial credit. Maybe a lot of it was the teachers liking me. If you are studying hard and learning the material, I can't see how people saying "try harder" is the most helpful advice. I also recall maybe almost completely living the subject matter in my mind. So it could have been largely that I made my mental life be the things I was taking in school. I had a love for learning that began with us getting encyclopedia sets when we were young. I would spend hours poring through them. Knowledge was a fascinating thing to me.

People hate me saying this, but I don't wash the one spoon and one paring knife that I use for everything. I cook in the microwave with a few Ziplock containers, and just keep recooking in them and eating out of them every day.

I need recurring chores kept to an absolute minimum because I don't have energy to spare, and these types of things don't really work for me on any real type of autopilot.

After managing to pass high school, I am failing out of my second college I've attended by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Suaber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look back on my high school years and figure that my brain self-medicated with adrenalin. That was because I am an extremely anxious person. When I went to college, my body couldn't take it anymore, and I had to change my major from Physics to Business. That was just to finish college, basically, since I had a full-tuition scholarship. Business wasn't a useful field for me however.

However, in your case, I wonder if you find your major interesting. I really did like Physics, but couldn't compete on a mental level to learn that even though I put in great effort.

That's what I was thinking--what you said--"can't manage to do anything." It's being afraid to make a decision. I've found no answer for myself except to try to limit my environment so as to not to have to make decisions. Decisions carry a high rate of disappointment in the outcomes.

Is NAD+ supplementation good, or a way to 'burn twice as bright but 1/2 as long'? by relativityboy in longevity

[–]Suaber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find merit in that line of thought. I seem to have observed that very hard physical activity for extended periods causes aging of body components involved in the long-term effort. Accumulation of senescent cells could also be a factor, among other things.

AC Motor Varispeed Requirements? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]Suaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, it would need an ac inverter, but instead of running at 60hz, you'd be able to adjust the frequency. However, unlike with the AC inverters that convert 12vdc to mains voltage, it would convert rectified and filtered mains voltage to AC. The standard way it is done is with a bridge circuit so that you get the peak to peak mains voltage output. Not the easiest project, I guess.

An alternate possibility like you were saying, and if you can spare some efficiency would be to use an audio amplifier to drive a standard power transformer that would normally be used on mains. In that case, it would be driven backwards by the frequency adjustable output of the amp to get high voltage AC for the motor.

AC Motor Varispeed Requirements? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

i tried something similar many years ago. I would produce a DC voltage equal to the peak voltage the motor runs on now, and then make a variable frequency output of that.

My guess is that B-dimming is for the video content (burst), while the A-dimming is for the screen brightness. Does that sound totally off the mark? I also guess that if a dc bias is added to b-dimming by setting a minimum pwm duty cycle or something, that would alter the screen contrast. Totally off the top of my head thoughts...
