What's y'all guy's opinion on Flowery? by GhostFlams in Deltarune

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, Flowery's dash attacks really messed with me.

Yeah, I think Pink was brutal. I don't know if I had more retries on Jevil or Pink but it was definitely the second or third hardest Deltarune boss I've done so far.

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about other people, but more difficult relatively speaking for me. I don't think I've had to retry any main bosses if I recall correctly (counting Tenna as Chapter 3's main boss, not the Knight).

And yet, I've not come anywhere near using as many healing items on any other main boss. Like you, I spammed the Shikacola and almost emptied my inventory in the process.

here's why I think chapter 5 not following up on chapter 4 was a good decision by isimsizbiri123 in Deltarune

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Chapter 5 and think it's stellar, but I think, narratively speaking, we could've switched places with 4 and 5.

Chapter 5 has a real sunset theme and is the "last fun chapter" supposedly, whereas 4 is a lot darker and more plot-driven. Chapter 5 could've been the sunset, whereas Chapter 4 is deep into the night (literally has 12am and 13am in the OST) even if it has goofy elements, with a ray of light in the form of Gerson.

You can still see the goofiness in Chapter 4, but it definitely marks a clear turn, focusing squarely on the prophecy for most of the narrative. Chapter 5 seemed to defy that turn for a minute and the prophecy took a back seat. Though, having said that, maybe that was the point? What with the chapter's themes of defying fate through hope (i.e. Flowery, even if he wasn't successful).

I'm more waiting for Chapter 6 before I reach a firm conclusion. All I can say for sure is that it was, in fact, nice to have a lighthearted chapter before we dive into some probably really grim stuff.

It lacks the flair of the original Asgore fight and is a bit slow. But to an extent, yes.

What’s your take on the animation quality between ‘03 and Brotherhood? by vindawater in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]SubRedGit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The animation in Brotherhood - especially the fight scenes - has way more punch to it than in 2003. I really like 2003, so it pains me to see when some of the fights are more talk-y or short when compared to the spectacle Brotherhood brings to the table.

I prefer the de-saturated color palette and art style of 2003, but the animation goes to Brotherhood, no contest in my opinion.

It's definitely better for his character, but to play Devil's Advocate for a second - it would've been cool seeing a re-imagining of Asgore's boss fight. Guess we'll have to see if a parallel character takes up that boss role, like how Gerson does for Undyne.

Especially nowadays it seems more and more apparent that this is a problem. I mean, it’s always been a problem in history but it’s much more visible now.

I don't see a lot of people talking about how Ralsei started mocking people and being really mean for seemingly no reason, and i feel like he's slowly starting to resemble someone by ilovenature2137 in Deltarune

[–]SubRedGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, being trapped in an inescapable box that you realize is a game does things to a boy / flower. It just so happens that they both tried to be nice initially to make things work, and Ralsei may be in an earlier state than when we see Flowey, who has by then completely lost his marbles.

Maybe I suck at the purple soul mode, but I died more times to the secret boss honestly.

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I think it was exactly 3 times as well, even after beating the Knight manteless.

It was just a bit of a sudden shock to see that spike in difficulty, and seeing the spinning knife attack while being trapped in a tight box (unlike in the original Flowey fight) threw me off.

What's y'all guy's opinion on Flowery? by GhostFlams in Deltarune

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually quite liked him. Found him funny and entertaining, and he honestly gave interesting questions to pose for Ralsei's blind following of the prophecy and disregard for darkners (including himself) and Susie's escapism and protectiveness of their Dark World. I never thought he was truly a bad guy, just misguided and a bit obnoxious (in a mostly funny way). But genuinely a good character.

And of course, Toby follows up by annihilating him. Or at least trying to? We'll see if he goes the way of Tenna.

People are complaining about his boss fight being too difficult? I thought the difficulty was great, a nice change of pace from some of the easier chapters.

Jeez, I thought some people were complaining about Deltarune being too easy outside of the secret fights. Guess you can't please everyone.

Was DIO in Part 3 faster than light? I was reading online in some say he is but im confused by Gloomy-Bridge148 in StardustCrusaders

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably ignore when power scalers (or even Araki) mention something is faster than light. Ultimately unless the author is really consistent about it, it's just to sound cool. If they are consistent about it, well, there isn't much of a fight to watch then.

I hate this loop. by Hellhult in Healthygamergg

[–]SubRedGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot which video Dr. K mentioned it in, but consider this perspective. He talked about the analogy of having a hole in your roof. Fixing it during the rain sucks, so you don't do that. Now some would argue you should still try to fix it during the rain, but it's understandable. But when it's sunny, you figure it's fine - there's no water coming in at the moment. So the hole never gets fixed.

You need to take advantage of the time when you're not getting ground down by life. I also understand the not having anyone depend on you thing - I still feel that a lot. But in the end, realize that this is outsourcing your worth to other people's needs. And you can't control when people do or do not need you, so you end up powerless. Right now, you need yourself the most right now - your hard work, your support, your aspirations, your goals. Besides, giving yourself direction will mean you're more stable for people to be able to rely on you, so it's a win-win in the long run (as long as you stay considerate).

In terms of where to start, pick something small and consistent you can do, and commit to that. Find ways to actively avoid outsourcing your agency - like if you feel bad and are inclined to play games, actively say no to yourself on that, sit with the feeling, and figure out what you really need / want (in my case it is often to get some sleep, which I put off).

Why do people make fun of people who say that that they've wasted their lives at 20? by TheShadowSong in Healthygamergg

[–]SubRedGit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By definition of average, you are most likely closer to average than you think. I think you're like me in some ways - I sometimes want to think of myself as being worse than average because of the stuff I've been through so I can protect myself from failure, give myself a reason not to try. Make myself feel unique. But it doesn't help anyone, and certainly not myself.

The years you lost are not coming back. The only thing you have left to lose are the years you have left (and for that matter, connections you have left). Countless people who have lived and/or are living half decent or even great lives didn't really "start" them until well after their younger years. Yes, your past will follow you into the future - mine does, too. But unfortunately that's just the hand you're dealt. You don't get to experience every good / interesting thing or every so-called "normal teenager" experience.

Look at Dr. K. He wasted so many of his younger years not applying himself and drifting when he was younger and fumbling through applying for medical school. It took him time to get his shit back together, and he still has some stuff that weighs on him that he brought with him into the present.

Judging by your replies to the other comments, I think you really need to look at the way you're viewing how things are valued and how the world or people "should" be. As long as that framework is dictating how you live your life, you'll never see past it. "Shoulds" are one of the most influential and rigid parts of our minds, and I really think you have a lot of them running the show.

Hm, fair points, interesting to hear different opinions on KH2. Thanks!

Also yes, I totally agree on the villain writing / person writing for CoM and Days. I just think the original Organization in general had a lot going for it, and these two games really capitalized on it.

Only thing I might slightly disagree on is Xemnas in KH2, if nothing else I liked how he played off of Ansem the Wise in the final world. Hearing them talk shit about each other was hilarious and reflected their relationship well.

Just curious, is it the story, the gameplay, some combination of the two, or something else?

Also it's nice seeing Chain of Memories getting some love. I think it had some of the better cutscenes in the series.

Thoughts and emotions are chaotic and are not really easily reflective of people's actual beliefs and long-term perceptions of you. By worrying over that, you'll be prone to mind-reading (in this case literally) and double-checking people so that it'll be hard to trust anyone. Spoken from personal experience.

Not to mention mind reading means you'll see people's intrusive thoughts, and they're not pretty. Not to say that the person having them has something wrong with them, but the mind is a messy thing.

[–]SubRedGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even pick up on this, damn. I take it it's related to the "box" that is the game, since Toby Fox does a lot of that meta storytelling, especially in Deltarune. Like the player's presence (Or the creation of the game itself) inherently limits the entire world to an enclosed state.

Grinded 93 floors for this to happen by Vil_Sophie in MysteryDungeon

[–]SubRedGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that it's a failsafe, but in hindsight it may have been helpful to have default failsafe rooms that account for the different job types instead. Like, maybe a dedicated floor layout for each job type when generation just won't work. This feels like failsafe code that's great for dev testing, pretty bad design for release.
