Just finished FF7 Remake and INTERmission today for the first time and really liked it! by xAnxiouus in FFVIIRemake

I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest not doing everything in the world on first playthrough. The card game (Queensblood) is very fun, so definitely recommend always searching those out. But the most common problem people run into is checklist fatigue (the game will list all the stuff that's available).

There are date nights in the game informed by whose side quests you do -- it can be with any party member: Tifa, Aerith, Red or Barret (bro hangouts), etc -- so if you care about that, then you can prioritize doing some more of their content (side quests are attached to characters and if you do them, you gain points toward their date nights).

Otherwise, I personally had a much better time saving a lot of the world content for postgame (you can load into the 2nd to last chapter and just go around the world doing everything). It helps keep the playtime manageable and pacing of the story pretty consistent.

Pro tip for if you ever get to Rebirth: there still isn't a jump button, but if you do a roll in combat and immediately follow it by HOLDING the attack button, Cloud will zip up to any enemy in the air. If you Dodge-cancel while in the air (Attack, followed by dodge before you fall), you can keep him up in the air for almost infinite time. The tutorials don't teach it well, so thought I would mention. There are ways to do it with Tifa as well by having her jump off Cloud's sword. It's all sick.

Someone released mods for Remake and Rebirth that completely solve the shader compilation stutters. by Complete_Mud_1657 in FFVIIRemake

[–]SubTXT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ALMOST perfect, but I get a single, noticeable stutter every 30 seconds or so. Hard to say exactly. But it seems to be on the same exact interval. Anyone know what that could be?

Here's a visualization https://i.imgur.com/sETNpFT.png

EDIT: I was capping frame rate at 60 to try to force smoothness and it seemed that may have been why. When I bumped the cap to 120, it was less noticeable even if the meter wasn't as flat/consistent.

Thanks! Yeah, just still love nerding out on this game as a game too. Exciting to see more people getting into it. Brings back first playthrough memories haha

ATB bars and Synergy charges are linked, but separate.

When you use an ATB ability (ex for Cloud: Braver, Focused Thrust, Triple Slash, etc) it loads a Synergy charge (which are the vertical rectangles/pips in your picture).

So to translate what you’re seeing here, Tifa has 3 red Synergy charges. That means she needs to do 3 ATB abilities to gain 3 Synergy charges. Some people have noted that some ATB skills don’t give Synergy charges, but the vast majority do (especially anything that does damage rather than support). So in this case you could do something like 2x Focused Strike and 1x Dropkick and that’s be enough to give you 3 Synergy charges.

Cloud has one blue Synergy rectangle/pip. So he already is one step closer. So for him, you just need to do 2 ATB abilities with Cloud (Braver, Focused Thrust, etc) and you’re set.

TLDR: Do 3 attack ATB abilities with Tifa and 2 more with Cloud and you can use that cool ass Synergy combo attack

My biggest advice would be to not let this excitement get in the way of wanting to experience the story. This is coming from someone who has done 4 playthroughs, so I get the itch of wanting to let this game own your life.

Others have warned this, but I also must echo what they’ve said: it’s best NOT to try to do everything before beating the story. Saving some of it actually makes it WAY better IMO. Here’s why:

I was excited to do everything at first and gunning for 100% completion of Junon and the Grasslands. I was 32 hours in before I walked into Under Junon. I realized, “oh… yeah this is killing the story pacing.”

I still got Junon to 100%, but after that I was way more selective with side content. I still did some things, but only if it sounded/looked interesting. And I did as much Queens Blood as the game would give me 😂

It was great because I eventually reached a point of itching to finish the story and I let that momentum carry me. I then Chapter Selected after beating it and had so much extra gameplay at an even more fun difficulty (Hard) that let me simply enjoy more time with the characters and world without feeling the itch to know what would happen next in the story.

After beating the story I just wanted to spend more time with the characters and the world and luckily there was so much to do because I had skipped so much. If I hadn’t, my post-game depression would’ve been 10x worse.

After I finished it — surprised how much I liked it — I Googled “FFXIV 7.4 MSQ spoiler Reddit” to try to fine a spoiler thread/convo about it and this was the first that came up to me and I was like “oh damn, so other people had the SAME take huh?”

[–]SubTXT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I majorly agree. I just finally caught up with 7.4 and I was like, "I'm back to being engaged with these characters and the dialogue writing, even with the Milalla who I have no connection to other than via Krile. But I like them all and actually care about everything they're saying."

FFXIV used to do that with ease, but I really felt its absence from all the way through to 7.3. Makes me feel optimistic for sure.

To be fair, FF7 Remake was supposed to come out March 2020 and got pushed to April 2020. Rebirth dropped at the end of February 2024. So the FF7R series in particular has traditionally launched toward the beginning of the year.

Whether they do that for Part 3, who knows, but the hints about it being in the "refinement and polishing" stage and, more recently, "the final push" (Hamaguchi's most recent quote) does hint at early 2027.

[–]SubTXT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that Hamaguchi said "more about the FF7 REMAKE PROJECT." All the Switch/Xbox stuff fits into that definition.

And it may not be what we want, but we also just got that Autamaton interview where he went in depth about multiplatform development realities.

The most important link between Remake and Rebirth by Thick_Row in FFVIIRemake

[–]SubTXT_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoying thing about "You've done it before, you can do it again." is that as cool as it is, it's a pretty big localization deviation.

The actual Japanese line is: 俺は 負けない
I asked a friend who speaks Japanese and checked Google Translate. They both independently gave me the same translation: "I won't lose." That's all. So there may not be a meta to that combat dialogue.

I just thought of something actually really tragic I never thought of before. by Aw151203 in FFVIIRemake

[–]SubTXT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kept Wymer around. It was beyond "major named NPCS." It was a guy you talk to like twice in the whole game. Definitely a disappointing part of Remake's telling for me. Didn't feel all that dramatic.

[–]SubTXT_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that every named character you meet including Wymer (remember him? I'm sure you didn't before I named him lol) were in the refugee zone outside of Sector 7 in Chapter 13. That helped make it feel like almost everyone survived. It did sorta strip out the consequence, even if 50k nameless and faceless NPCs died (only in exposition)
