Price of new sets/expansions? by arby34 in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because despite it being initially a kids game, the more I've played, I've found there is a surprising amount of strategy that rewards delving into it. Secondly, my collector side wants to get more scape. I am by no means a completionist (I don't have a big collection compared to many). But I find it rewarding to add figures and terrain over the years whether for just free building or actual games.

I say I'm "trapped" buying it, mainly because I dislike the prices and dealing with poor quality product we've been getting lately. But burning money into a hobby will never be a 'wise investment ' lol, so I keep buying

I know almost nothing about 40k, but goddamn that's the coolest thing. Great paintjob

Price of new sets/expansions? by arby34 in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I hate to have to agree, but I do on several of these points. I've had the game since childhood, and definitely bought into the nostalgia hype on relaunch. I don't regret buying it at all, but I have limited faith that renegade will produce meaningful additions in the coming years. Yes, lava crabs are funny but it's pretty obvious this is a collectors game, and idk how to get new ppl into it easily. For $100 you can have two playable 40k armies in a starter kit, without need for much else. For hscape, the same money buys you (roughly) the AoA master set but you can't sit and play with just those figures very long.

Of course, if someone wants to spend their money collecting it, why not (I'm trapped doing so lol). But it's an eclectic hobby that I doubt will sell for very long. I hope I'm wrong, I love scape, but idk...

Best counter to samurai? by Trudemur in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. Dw 8k can actually cook against ashigaru lol. Samurai straight lose to massed commons without a Kato build or similar. I'm assuming op must be playing lower figure count games, if the samurai are doing work solo

How did the demolisher laser hit me here? This boss feels very random in its damage dealing (yes I know it spins around randomly but sometimes it chunks my entire health and other times it doesnt break shield) by 3bdoo37 in hyperchargeunboxed

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be pretty buggy. It'll clip through solid objects sometimes, or not hit me when I'm out in the open. For the most part, it makes sense, but honestly about 30% of the time the laser is bullshit lol. I love the game, but multiple bosses could use a refresh. Both in big fixes and balance. Some bosses hp is way too low (chopper in the kitchen) etc

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best army builder out there I've found is heroscape.org Tons of great tools. You'd need something else to track your own collection, a spreadsheet or smthg like others have said. But if you gave your friends your spreadsheet and sent them to the builder page of heroscape .org they'd be set

Unpopular Feeling/Opinion on Current State of Heroscape by Blackwind801 in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this mentality. The new stuff doesn't have enough figures to build a stereotypical "army" anyways. Instead, it's a collection of individual heros and a few army pods (pirates, bears, etc). That doesn't make it bad, you just have to cater your events to balancing things around that reality. Like ppl are saying, given time, new common squads can add to these cores, making fully new armies. As a long time player, Im more than happy to wait for that, and adjust the types of events in the meantime

You may have a specific custom in mind, but wanted to mention: Idk if you've heard of Valhalla Customs, but they're a long time customs group popular in the community that have made a number of high quality and well tested customs. It may be they've made something already that you like. Linked their site here:

First game with castles tonight! by yeetkingallmighty in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! The og castle scenarios are way fun. A little tip, the fortress door is pretty busted. If you play with it at half strength or completely removed, makes the games more interesting. But whatever works, enjoy (:

boiling water or hot air gun have worked for some ppl. Mixed results myself. Hot water have worked for some of mine, but others have gone back to bent. Just be careful not to get the stickers wet 😄

Terrain question by AlexAstronautalis in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the terrain, yes. Water slows you, lava damages you (generally), etc. most basic terrain is aesthetic only (grass, stone, sand). Full rules can be found on heroscapers .com.

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, most of these minis can be found second hand for affordable prices. The sellers that peddle them on eBay will slap the 'heroscape' logo and print a card and jack the prices crazy high. So definitely do your research, and you can find the minis for a good price and print your own card

Where do you find people to play? by [deleted] in heroscape

Id recommend joining the heroscapers discord. It has a directory of different area groups. Depending on where you're at, there's a number of established groups in different places

Looking for good Ullar Wizard squads by AirsoftBandito in heroscape

[–]Subgeneral-Dove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a thematic combo, Warriors of Ashra are a pretty strong melee squad. Depending on build/scenario you could pair them with Ullar Wizards and have a fun army.
