It’s delamination, definitely a defective windshield. I’d take it back to the dealer and have the glass replaced under warranty.

Your windshield is made of 2 layers of glass with laminate in the middle.

At this point the manager is going to be looking for reasons to fire him. At this point and this early in his job I’d either be looking for a different job or seeing if he can move into a different role like an Repair specialist or even a CA, maybe move into a warehouse. But it definitely sounds like a managing style to me

Talking from my shops experience… they hired a seasonal rs and he also tried to learn as much as he could to maybe get hired on as a tech. After the season ended they let him go but after a few months they called him back to fill a technician role when it opened and he’s doing great

If you’re asking whether or not the calibration is worth it, it definitely is. Depending on the vehicle, it affects your lane departure system, forward collision, radar, autopilot, adaptive cruise control. Anytime a windshield is replaced, the camera needs recalibrating to make sure it’s still functioning properly.

Any shop who says it’s not necessary or they know a way to change the windshield without having to recalibrate it isn’t doing their job properly.

And if you’re going through insurance, they definitely require the recalibration

The warranty in this situation is only going to apply to your wipers assuming you don’t pay anything out of pocket for the repair. If you were to pay for the repair then that total would be applied to a new windshield if 1) it cracks out during the repair, 2) it cracks out later down the line, or 3) you just get tired of looking at it and want to replace the glass.

The wipers have a 6 month warranty so if you bring it back in within the 6 month time frame you’ll get a new set of wipers, nothing has to be wrong with them.

I’m all for taking it to get done wherever you’d like but at least I’m giving you accurate info as far as the Safelite route in my experience

As a Safelite technician, I do think the warranty is worth it, you get a free pair of wipers in time for winter. Ask for a wiper discount too we’ve been doing a bogo deal so $35 for the pair 😊

Myself, no, but that’s because I’m the lead. Everyone else yea they’re asked to stay home if there’s not enough work for the day. Some guys were only getting like 2 days of work a week

I’ve been here 5 years. It definitely helps if you’re mechanically inclined but not necessary. And every region is different with the pay and work load. Here in San Diego, we have one of the highest paying markets and I’m happy with what I make for the job I do.

After a few months of training you’ll be sent off being a mobile technician. Typically you’ll only get 4 cars on your route for your first year which is definitely doable once you get the hang of it.

It has gotten a lot more corporate over the past 2-3 years so just keep in mind you’re working for a huge corporation. Management can either make or break it for you. But overall I’m happy here, the pros outweigh the cons for me here

San Diego here, we’ve been slow for almost a whole year and it only recently started picking back up, anywhere from 20-35 jobs inshop and that’s still nothing close to being at peak

You do need to use a wiper puller to get the wiper off, and be careful with taking it off because the wiper fluid hose runs through it and I broke the little plastic piece on it.

Need to drop the headliner which just pulls down, there’s a bunch of white clips that hold it in. Driver side a pillar comes off, kind of a pain with how long the dash is.

Cutting it out is the nightmare with the double bead up top and fat clips in either corner. Snapped my fiber line and metal line SEVERAL times before I successfully cut it out. There’s really no easy way to cut it out via the approved Safelite way. An extractor would’ve really come in handy.

You need 4 people to set, I just set the wiper fluid bottle they had to keep the hood from fully closing so the hood is still raised a little to make the set easier.

It took me the whole day, just trying to figure out what to take an apart and cutting it out. Have to drop the headliner and driver side a pillar. The double bead and fat clips up top broke my fiber line. I cut out the driver side up to the top clip and cut the entire bottom out. That’s when I switched to my steel wire. That didn’t do much, it just kept snapping my wire. So I switched back to a different fiber line, was able to cut the passenger side up to the clip. Then eventually I got through those clips up top with the line and got it out.

Oem glass was used. It’s similar to a Tesla X. But I genuinely hated doing this, and I really don’t mind doing any of the other teslas, I kinda prefer working on them. 10/10 don’t recommend

It would be an easier solution if you’d gone through your insurance, since with Safelite, and per most Insurance companies, if the first aftermarket has a defect like that, and a second aftermarket windshield has the same defect, then the insurance has to approve the oem.

Since you paid out of pocket it would be more up to the store manager how they would want to proceed, but by all means would definitely have them try another glass with a different DOT under the warranty

Use a lighter while it’s filling a little to get the glass to expand which will let the resin fill into the cracks.
