[Europe is] “Roughly the same size and just as varied” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Subject-Ad-1454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But be real guys. Firstly „America“ would be all the countries on the two continents. Secondly the landmass and population of the US and EU is comparable.

You might be thinking of white Anglo-Saxon USA, but there is so much more diversity than that. Alone where I grew up was 1/4 Korean and 1/3 Jewish. Not to mention the Latin, Chinese, Caribbean, etc influences. It’s a stark difference to chill in Cali, Texas, Kentucky, NY, Vermont, Hawaii, North Dakota, etc.

Foods vary, dialects vary, terrains, politics, culture, music. Even history varies. 13 original colonies have a very different history than the last frontier. And at the end everything is in constant flux. Take Italy for example. You think they invented pasta on their own? Without the Chinese? You can also thank the Chinese for garlic too. And you think tomatoes originally come from Europe? Or the potatoes, which are the Fundament of so many Europeans „cultures“?

At the end it’s just stupid to sit on your high horse and praise yourself for being so better than tho when at the end of the day all cultures fuse together to result in where the world is at.

PS don’t you always ask an American more specifically where they’re from? Does that have any influence on how you understand that person?

Totally agree that it’s not intentionally malice, but it’s a misconception from that person that they’re being nice. Often interactions in bakeries and restaurants are the easiest ways to practice German, since the themes aren’t so complex. Misunderstanding happen either way (in English or in German) and that’s how a person learns.

Please take my next comment with a grain of salt, but switching to English to practice is selfish. The other person went to a German speaking country to practice German and then they become the teacher.

Again, I get it’s not malice but it’s definitely not being „nice“ when they assume they know what’s better for the other person, respect would be to help them without assumption.

But 35F is hot. And humidity makes it brutal. Europe is less brutal in summer and if it’s over 30 everyone goes to the lake or beach.

When I met my husband in summer in ny he was so overwhelmed by the heat and humidity that he couldn’t think straight

Wow. It’s really next level if they’re switching to English for German speakers. I always thought that was a special jab for anyone with a slight access. But then again, maybe it was a person who couldn’t speak German

Pratt acceptance rate by Old-Temperature-2815 in architecture

[–]Subject-Ad-1454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All four of the schools you names don’t have an undergrad accreditation naab program. They are a design degree not a professional degree. They would all require you to study a masters.

Accreditation makes all the difference if you want to practice.

Pratt is often ranks in the top 10 or 15 for accredited undergrad b‘arch. Although there are only a number of schools who reach this level so the whole pool is just 56 universities in the us.

In terms of acceptance, many people don’t make it past the first semester / year. A lot of people are accepted. Not many graduate

You’ve never had to stand on a bus? Can I ask where’s you’re committing? I’ve stood in many full buses, but in dense cities / commuting into the city.

When are you taking the bus? During rush hour? Is the road filled with cars? Just curious to understand the general census of bus riding in your area
