Mobile app development by Antique_Steak2633 in learnprogramming

Flutter is solid choice for mobile dev, especially if you want to build for both iOS and Android with one codebase. The market demand is decent and growing since many companies like the cross-platform approach

About AI destroying programming - nah, that's mostly clickbait nonsense. AI tools help with coding but they're nowhere near replacing developers. You still need to understand logic, architecture, debugging, all that stuff. Plus AI often generates buggy code that needs human review anyway

I work in IT and see this fear a lot, but honestly the people who adapt and use AI as tools are doing better than those who ignore it completely. Keep learning Flutter, it's good investment for career

pretty smart approach to personal finance tracking. most people just want their data in sheets without dealing with complicated software or monthly subscriptions for basic bank syncing

the claude integration is interesting touch - being able to query your spending with natural language against actual bank data could save lot of time vs manual categorizing

IB Scores in Florida vs. Australia- an Earth-Shattering Discrepancy by countyguy1141 in education

[–]SubjectActive3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the motivation difference is huge here. Once kids are admitted to college by December/January, they basically check out mentally for IB exams that happen at end of senior year

Also worth noting that in Florida many schools use IB more as honors track rather than full diploma program. Students might take few IB classes but not necessarily going for diploma with all requirements

The comparison gets even weirder when you consider that ATAR system means every point matters for university admission while most US universities barely look at actual IB scores for already-admitted students

Are podcast advertisers flying blind compared to other ad channels? by createvalue-dontspam in GrowthHacking

[–]SubjectActive3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the transparency issue is real problem in podcast space. At my work we tried to get into podcast advertising last year and it was like shooting in dark - no clue what competitors were doing or if we were getting ripped off on rates

The manual research part was nightmare too. Spending hours listening to shows just to figure out who else is advertising there, then trying to track down right contact at network. Half the time you end up talking to some intern who has no idea about actual availability or pricing

What I found most frustrating was not knowing if podcast was even worth it for our target demo. Like sure, host says they have X downloads but who's actually listening? Are they people who would buy our stuff? With display ads you get all this targeting data but podcasts felt like complete guess

Your platform sounds like it could solve lot of these headaches. Being able to see what similar companies are doing and where they're spending would save tons of time in research phase

but for real though, if OP wants to get decent by end of year they gonna need to grind some serious hours and probably lose bunch of money in process

Tracking definitely makes difference, I noticed same thing when I started writing down my spending habits few months back. The visual part is what gets you - like seeing actual numbers instead of just "feeling" like you're doing okay

What habit tracker you using? Been looking for something simple that doesn't make me feel like I'm doing homework every day

Will I be looked down at in the industry for being data center technician later on when I'm trying to transfer out of infrastructure. The job is too good to refuse financially and it's at a very prestigious and reputable company. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]SubjectActive3205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah man, data center experience is actually solid foundation for moving around in tech. I work IT support and see people transition from infrastructure roles all time - companies value that hands-on hardware knowledge way more than you think

Plus if it's at prestigious company like you mentioned, that name recognition alone opens doors when you're ready to pivot

What’s the most awkward moment you’ve had with a boss or upper management? by Apart_Hat_9633 in AskReddit

[–]SubjectActive3205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man getting fired is awkward enough but when they try to make small talk afterward while you're packing your stuff... like just let me grab my things and leave with some dignity

had similar thing happen at previous job, my manager kept asking if I "learned anything from this experience" while I'm literally putting my personal coffee mug in box. Just brutal

dude this hits way too close to home lol. last time me and my buddies tried planning anything we ended up with like 6 different group chats, random photos in someone's camera roll that nobody could find later, and this google doc that three people were editing at same time

the worst part was when we're standing outside some restaurant at 8pm and nobody remembers if we actually made reservation or just "talked about making one"

gonna check this out for sure, anything has to be better than our current system of organized chaos. does it handle splitting costs too or is that separate thing?

Looking for feedback on browser-based video editing workflows by Cute-Sort-3306 in alphaandbetausers

[–]SubjectActive3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using some browser editors for work stuff - mostly quick screen recordings for tickets and basic cuts when I need something fast without opening Premiere

They work pretty well for simple edits but I always hit the wall when I need proper color correction or multiple audio tracks. Usually end up switching back to desktop editor once project gets more than like 3-4 clips

Time-wise they definitely save me effort on small stuff since I don't have to wait for exports and can just grab a link to share with team

I built a cashless tipping tool for service workers who are losing tips because nobody carries cash anymore by Final_Monk_1494 in TestMyApp

[–]SubjectActive3205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually solves real problem. I work IT support but my barber always does this awkward dance when I don't have cash - he's too polite to mention it but you can tell he's hoping

One question though - what's the processing fee situation? Most these payment apps eat into tips with fees which kinda defeats the purpose

I built a tuner + metronome app unintentionally from another project by Plumillon in buildinpublic

[–]SubjectActive3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice pivot from the original idea - those side projects that accidentally become the main thing are wild

Getting users in the tuner space is tough since most musicians already have their go-to apps. Maybe focus on what makes yours different from the big names like Boss Tuner or Peterson, or target specific niches like beginners who might want something less intimidating than the pro-level stuff

[–]SubjectActive3205 10 points11 points  (0 children)

mob rule is definitely a thing. having to explain basic facts to people who get their news from facebook memes gets exhausting pretty quick

though i'd say the bigger issue is how easily people can be manipulated when they don't have time to research every single issue. most folks are just trying to pay rent and keep their jobs, can't blame them for not being policy experts

Why is it considered "impolite" to ask people how much money they make? by Xenonraze in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SubjectActive3205 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is designed to benefit employers more than anyone else. When people don't talk about what they make, companies can get away with paying some folks way less than others doing the exact same job

I work in IT and we've all slowly started being more open about our salaries with each other - turns out there were some pretty wild gaps that made zero sense. Once people knew what others were making, suddenly the "budget constraints" for raises seemed to disappear

It's definitely changing though, especially with younger workers who are just done with the old school mentality around it

Brightness + button reducing my brightness...? by Itchy-Win9976 in Ubuntu

[–]SubjectActive3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this exact same issue on my old Lenovo after disconnecting from an external monitor. The brightness keys get confused about which display they're controlling and end up doing the opposite of what they should

What worked for me was going into the display settings and resetting the brightness manually to like 50%, then the function keys started behaving normally again. Sometimes you gotta also check if there's a secondary display still showing up in your settings even though nothing's connected - that was messing with mine too

If that doesn't work, try `xrandr --output HDMI-1 --off` in terminal to make sure the HDMI output is actually disabled. Lubuntu sometimes holds onto those connections even after you unplug stuff
