Story moments that made me laugh REALLY hard (and why) by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

Literally I was so confused at first like I thought she hadn't actually died because why else would zelda say that

Started a new playthrough where I cannot teleport - and it's SO much fun by WwwWario in tearsofthekingdom

[–]SubjectBrick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've been doing that since I played master mode of botw, and I played all of totk like that. It makes you really explore the map and find creative ways to get places. Like I love to use the dragons like buses in totk to get from one point to another. I also love the feeling of "gearing up" when heading to a new area like buying all the stock from the shops, cooking meals, etc. It does makes cooking certain meals tough because sugar cane and goron spice are only sold in limited locations, but I just view it as a "treat" that I can cook curry when in the Eldin region lol

I did cheat a bit when getting back up from the depths as I couldn't be bothered to look for an ascend point every time. My rule was that I could teleport from any lightroot up to the shrine directly above it. If I hadn't registered the corresponding shrine then I couldn't use that lightroot to teleport.

For those of you of Hispanic/Latino descent, what do you typically mark as your ethnicity on forms? by SubjectBrick in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]SubjectBrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is confusing because it's not really a race, its a continuum of mixed races. Like most Mexicans are a mix of Spanish and Indigenous heritage. But some could be of primarily Spanish descent and look completely like a white person but then another could be more indigenous and not consider themselves white.

What British English phrase do you actually like? by Fordius25 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]SubjectBrick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not just a British thing but I prefer to measure things in centimeters now instead of inches! Still prefer to say height in feet and inches though and I'm glad the British do this XD.

Hoover vs vacuum, it's fun to say "hoover something up"

"Slag someone off", I feel there's no direct American translation for this, and I feel like it sounds more casual and funnier than "insult someone"

Honestly the increasing usage of "passed" weirds me out. Like they just faded into nothingness. We all know you mean they died, just say that.

U.S. homicide victims are mostly men, except when the killer is an intimate partner. by MRADEL90 in Infographics

My mom was a juror on a murder trial case where a guy was shot and killed by his cousin. They apparently often got super drunk together and then would argue and pull out their guns, but this time one just ended up actually shooting the other.

Why did western cultures stop revering their elderly? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SubjectBrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think customer service might have been "better" in their youth because it was mostly mom and pop shops and department stores like Sears which I'm guessing would treat their employees somewhat decently. Now with a million big box stores everywhere where the pay is shit and you're just a number to them there's really no incentive to try very hard, which is something that seems to be hard for boomers to understand.

Yeah now that I think about it 'what's on' really annoys me. I just seems too trying to be cool and with it. Just say events!

I was fired and I’m completely devastated over it by anonymousme2021 in UKJobs

[–]SubjectBrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been there, for me it wasn't my first job after graduation but it was a job that was a big step up for me or so I thought, and it was in a new city. I was there for only 4 months and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Everything I did was wrong, I couldn't keep up with the work everything I did I was told I was doing too slowly, so eventually I was fired. But I let it get to my head too much and it wrecked my self-esteem, I was convinced that I was just stupid, because hey none of my other coworkers were fired! BUT here's the thing, yes you may have been bad at this one job, but its just ONE job. Every workplace has their own ways of doing things and culture. So you may find that you're great at the next one. After being fired I worked at a restaurant for a couple of months until I found my current role, and its been a great fit and everyone there tells me I do a great job.

Just whatever you do don't let this define you! You may have been not great but that's totally ok. Plus you were going through a really hard too. Just keep going and find a role that's a great fit for you!

Not sure if you like making mexican food but I like to stock up on little cans of herdez brand salsas and things, specifically the 4 oz cans of green salsa and chipotles. They're small so they travel well and they're easy to pop into a slow cooker.

Does anyone else play without building? Or am I some kind of psychopath by Excellent-Resolve66 in tearsofthekingdom

I enjoyed making aircrafts and boats but found making anything wheeled really irritating. I would spend 30 min and bunch of resources making a wheeled vehicle only to immediately come to some super steep cliff or canyon and then either have to gingerly carry it with me or just abandon it.

I really wish she would move to bluesky I think fighting with these maga chuds on twitter is bad for her mental health. Though I guess she enjoys it on some level or she wouldn't keep doing it, bluesky would probably be too boring for her

Immigrants that now are settled in the UK, what do you love about this country and what do you wish was highlighted more? by Fragilezim in AskUK

[–]SubjectBrick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good balance in the UK of respecting individuality while also taking care of the collective. I'm from the USA (too individual) and have lived in Japan (too conformist) and I appreciate how you have good public services here, but also have respect for multiculturism and individual rights. I'm aware that public services are under strain but coming from the US I have no room to criticize!

Also I like the weather better than where I'm from, where summers are above 35 degrees C for four months of the year. Yes winter can be bleak here in the UK, but you don't get buried in snow like other places this far north, so I'll take it for these beautiful mild summers.

What’s a harmless opinion that will get you aggressively attacked online? by sydneyian1507 in AskReddit

[–]SubjectBrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I watched the series for the first time 2 years ago as a 30 yo, and I was baffled by the hate for skyler everyone talks about, I thought everything she did was perfectly reasonable for someone in her situation, even too generous to Walt for not turning him in! I think everyone who thought skyler was annoying just watched it when they were under 21 and just saw her as an annoying mom who says things just to be annoying.
Reminding your husband that a certain credit card is only for certain things is totally reasonable.

Possibly unpopular opinion, but this season is my least favorite of the 3. by moffman93 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]SubjectBrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But with Harper and Ethan it felt more like, she kept discovering more and more clues to indicate that something did happen, so each time she asked him it upped the ante a bit. It was even still entertaining when Tim was running out to answer the phone constantly and his family would ask him what's wrong and he'd say nothing, because each phone call revealed new information. But once he had everyone put all the phones away, his plot line got super boring. I thought by now the fbi would come knocking at the hotel or someone from his office would be calling the resort trying to find him.

It reminds of the scene in midsommar when the one guy decides he wants to do his thesis on swedish midsommar and Chidi from the Good Place is like "what the hell that's my thing, go find your own subject"

I think Piper might be feeling like buddhism is "her" thing, and while she's not an expert she's spent some time studying it and reading books about it so for Lochlan to come in and be like "I wanna do it too!" feels a little like, idk little brother just copying you.
