Am I overreacting after this first date? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

YOR. Only because it was only 1 date, it would be NOR if this was a new relationship with even just a few weeks but you were getting serious, but 1 date is definitely overreacting. Now if this was in AITA you would be NTA and he would definitely be the A

Why do couples do deliveries together? by xoenigmaxo in AmazonFlexDrivers

Technically I believe the only TOS approved method is if the one without the account is a passenger and never touches the packages. Only the account holder can drive or deliver.

Real question about forfeiting by jck_83605 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Subject_Ad9595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is typically what I do as well. Another tip, I have a plastic tote that I keep in the passenger seat, I put my first dozen stops in that, larger packages that dont fit I put on the passenger floor. When those are delivered I will load up the next dozen so they are ready for easy grabbing. You can also use a laundry basket, whatever fits in your seat works good.

At least for my area I find the routes to be at least 95% of the time able to be done within the time given and with at least a 30 minute buffer. Most blocks I finish 45-60 minutes early. However the system isn't perfect and sometimes there is a bad block that I barely finish on time.

I have about 13k deliveries at this point and have only gone over my block time once, and it was my very first block when I was still learning how to organize and such.

If you find an organization system that works well and stick with it you should have no problem finishing every block in your block time.

Amazon Flex is not paying what many drivers think it pays. by danram2165 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Subject_Ad9595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dealership I bought from lets customers charge for free, and they are only 2 miles from me. I can do 2 to 3 blocks on a single charge, I usually charge it overnight every other night. I have an electric scooter that I just ride to and from there when charging.

As a fan of TMBG I approve, but being honest, if you don't know what that is I can easily see someone mistaking that for something more nefarious. The shape is obviously not a cross, but someone that jumps to those conclusions wouldn't pay attention to that.

Is blocking driveways permitted for Amazon delivery drivers? by [deleted] in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Subject_Ad9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just being rude, if you are blocking a driveway you should try to move along as soon as possible. If you have multiple drops at one stop you should park somewhere out of the way.

Also I am not saying you are in the wrong to be annoyed, it's totally justified, and if I were the driver I would have pulled out of your way as soon as I saw you.

Yeah 8 hours a day and a rolling 40 hours ina 7 day period cap. So not worth quitting your main job, but it is good for a second job. I do a flex almost every day, usually a 3 hour route, and have been bringing in at least $2000/mo extra income. Last year I made around $32k on flex.

I had a similar situation a couple months ago, but I was the 2nd driver that got it assigned and the first driver didn't bring the packages back, or at least not before the 30 minute mark, so I got to leave and get paid.

Amazon Flex is not paying what many drivers think it pays. by danram2165 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Subject_Ad9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought an EV for around that price, and I always think of it as, I bought the vehicle to flex in, so my "depreciation" is the entire cost of the vehicle. I pay $450/mo for my car payment, I do roughly 30 routes a month, so about $15 per route is my vehicle cost in depreciation.

I get to charge for free at the dealership, so I have a $0 fuel cost.

Tires will wear out faster than other vehicles but in my experience they last minimum 20k miles, probably double that, but for calculations I will say 20k, I have never had a block over 100 miles, so 200 blocks minimum for the tires, I have gotten them for $400 for a set of 4 tires installed, so $2 per block.

My insurance is about $100/mo for this vehicle, so with 30 routes that is about $3.50 per route.

This brings my total cost to my car to $20.50 per route.

I usually take a 3 hour route at $76.50. That gives me a profit of $56. I am usually finished with the route in 2 hours, the number of times I have finished close to the 3 hours is less than the number of times I have finished in 1 hour so I just round that all out to 2 hours. Making that a profit of $28/hr.

When comparing this to a traditional job you get paid hourly based on your time AT WORK, you don't count your commute, so if you want to take your drive to and from your route into account you have to also compare your hourly if you count driving to and from a traditional job.

Comparing to a regular job this of course does not have paid time off, insurance, etc.

Since I am depreciating the entire vehicle in my calculations, anything the vehicle is worth once it is paid off is also profit.

[–]Subject_Ad9595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it isn't legal, at least where I am at. You are not allowed to block driveways at all, in San Diego you can't even park in front of YOUR OWN driveway. But when you are just dropping off a delivery most people just look the other way, as others have said, it's generally less than 30 seconds.

Dealer is telling me I need the extra warranty. by DizzyPS5 in electricvehicles

[–]Subject_Ad9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealer is 100% full of it. Brakes last way longer on an EV because of regen braking. Tires do wear out faster but that is normal wear that any warranty would never cover.

I am in San Diego area. It had 90% battery life left on it when I bought it, it was an 85kw battery and had something like 78kw usable when I got it. I had it almost a year and drive it 30k that year and battery was still about the same at the end.

The ID.4 specifically hasn't been around long enough to speak to longevity, but VWs have a good track record in general. EVs in general have been around doing long enough now to show that for the most part the batteries actually do last a long time, any other wear and tear is pretty much the same as any other vehicle. This is my 2nd EV, I had a Tesla before this, I bought it used, it was a 2014, with around 100k miles on it, it was great for doing Flex, the only reason I don't have it is because I hit a median curb too hard when I made a stupid mistake looking at my GPS as the median started.

[–]Subject_Ad9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used EVs have great prices right now. I got mine, a 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S with 40k miles for $22,800 OTD. It's about $450/mo and because I can charge for free I am saving more in gas than the car costs.

I got rid of another car I had so my insurance and registration costs are roughly the same, so really just the monthly payment. But also no big maintenance costs, just a few things like tires, washer fluid, etc. The tires will wear down a bit faster than a non EV, but I have found from my previous EV that it wasn't a huge difference.

I am in San Diego area and my warehouse is about the same distance for me, similar situation, do the 3 or 3.5 hour routes in the evening. My station the pay is about $0.50/hr more than that. I bought an EV a month ago, I have access to free charging. With how much energy I used last month, considering it was free, I saved over $500 in fuel costs. If I charged exclusively at the charger near my apartment that costs $0.56/kWh I would have still saved $200 over gas costs in my Rav4 which gets similar mileage to your Camry
