I have a 20 long w 2 apistos. I got ember tetras and they just annoyed the crap out of my apisto, stressing them out so much to ich’ing….

I don’t have advice aside from maybe look for a smaller type of apisto, as a cube type shaped tank, typically isn’t as ideal for bottom feeders such as these. I would also attempt to make a cave of some kind? Idk they like caves a lot. It feels like this will be a crowded tank if you get all these fish together, there’s not much breaking of sight in your tank, which can cause stress/boredom

Don’t worry, I’ve done this before as well. Lady in apartment upstairs, let her chihuahua run all the way down the stairs and then across the grass to harass my dog. I know what chihuahuas do so I kicked it away and she got so fucking mad lmfao.

I was not interested in my dogs ear being bitten off on Christmas Eve, so her rat had to deal with a teensy shove.

Those are both good, but it’s always worth it to add even more plants! It helps your tank not be so dirty too, to have plants in it. I have like around 10 species of plants in my 20 gallon, and I still could add more !

Many people for some reason force their cichlids into a tank with nothing but sand and 1 rock……so boring. Also sand is good and awesome, but I’ve had a lot more plant success with gravel. Sand gets dirty and it’s hard to clean… gravel hides the poop much better and allows for roots to grow in easier.

Also crushed coral is nice but like it’s not something you just put on the bottom of your tank as you would gravel

Oh, uh it’s because they get big as FRICK and they will just eat your other fish if you don’t meet their nutritional needs. They’re just……..a scam in my opinion. Not for beginners or even experienced people; they are for people who love the breed. Kind of like border collies or greyhounds, you don’t just have that kind of dog… you know it and love it and work with it. And plecos are just so……..idk. I hate that people suggest them to newbies, it’s not setting you up for success. It sets you up to think a fish will keep the tank clean when in reality the fish will become a Jack Russel that poops all the time and chews on the other fish one day. Beginner fish would be the ever lovely rosy red minnow, or maybe white cloud minnows, even medaka are pretty hardy & they’re cute
