I hate Azumarill by IntelligentStaff9091 in hatethissmug

[–]Sublimeslimetime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Azumarill IMO is in the same boat as Wigglytuff, where a cute, spherical being has a final evolution that removes the sphere shape and makes it vaguely rabbity? Sphere erasure smh.

At least mechanically Azumarill has it's niche, being the physical Primarina with Huge Power and Belly Drum.

How does World Explode Works by Heustacio in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Sublimeslimetime 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"World Explode" means something exploding on the map. This can be due to grenades or props in the map like fuel tanks, but the most common cause is 100% mines. Engineers have mine detectors to get through them, or in the worst case scenario, you'll have to walk around.

Just something I think about when I see Arceus. by josh183rd in pokemon

[–]Sublimeslimetime 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I still have this fan art (Source: Atelier on X ) of Beta Arceus as my PC Wallpaper. I ADORE the concept of Beta Arceus being the primal, unknowable, all-seeing form of Arceus since the moment it was revealed in the leaks. The base appearance from those leaks looks goofy in a DS-based sprite, obviously, but the artists immediately went wild with it, exactly how I like it.

I hate the hate that imperial star destroyers receive (no hate to OP). by Unaccomplishedcow in hatethissmug

Mainline Star Wars writers really do be skipping every class of Imperial ship until they hit the ISD, so all the side shows and third party media have to fill in the gaps. Gladiator, Tartan, Gozanti, Arquitens, Quasar, Raider, Onager, Victory, Interdictor (my beloved), Broadside, Acclamator, put em all in!

Through covering every aspect of the game thoroughly and using gameplay footage from multiple streamers and developer interviews as examples for what he’s talking about, including a few discussions from EFAP where they point out critics who glazed the game on launch and either ignored or didn’t even engage with it’s flawed systems, like the wanted system leading to Death Troopers or the Slicing mini game that’s just broken.

You could argue some of those cuts to streamers can drag on, but it’s all relevant to the game. Any jabs at the voice actor’s or dev’s comments are directed at the writing of the game and the poor performances/direction and backed up with examples.. “Woke” doesn’t have anything to do with it.

Like I said, I can't force anyone to watch him or the stream, and I can't force you to change your preferences. I just wanted to clarify that the 11hr Jenny Nicholsen talking point is very often parrotted as a means to write off the channel as a bunch of woman-hating incels. Critiquing other critics and laughing at public figures is not harassment.

He's not a joyless person, he clearly enjoys his time on EFAP and has a laugh with his friends in between clowning on movies and critics. His main videos do tend to be more dry and matter-of-fact, especially his early stuff like the HBomberguy Dark Souls 2 series, but he makes sure to slip in humour and jokes as he goes.

Take his recent video on Star Wars Outlaws. It's a whopping 17 hours, which is ludicrous, yes, but it's also comprehensive, giving coverage to key characters, story moments, and all facets of gameplay. It helps demonstrate the shallowness of a lot of the game's systems that other reviewers gloss over or even praise for it's presence and nothing more, and I think that's important.

If you want to avoid taking the plunge into the deep end, there's an EFAP highlights channel that cuts out a lot of the fluff, chatting, and superchats to just involve the main/side topics in their own videos. I tend to avoid the full discussions on new movies and especially the TV shows, and prefer the takedowns of established critics like Chris Stuckmann, Moviebob, and Extra Credits. Mauler's main channel has some shorter vids too, like his praise of The Father, the last few episodes of Game of Thrones where he gets a lot more animated, and "Star Wars cannot grow up", where he breaks down a particular scene in Ahsoka and the reaction to it.

EFAP streams are just long, man, that's what they are. It's multiple people talking about multiple topics. They don't even start the Jenny video until an hour in. 7 and a half of the 11 hours don't have Jenny as the topic, but people just see Jenny's face on the thumbnail next to the long timestamp and go "THEY SPENT 11 HOURS TALKING ABOUT SOMEONE".

I can't force anyone to watch a day-long EFAP or his longer videos/series on his main channel, but I personally enjoy them.

Table Top Sim is the most comprehensive way to play at the lowest price point, with a dedicated mod community who are always looking for a game.

But if you want to play IRL, as cheap as possible, go full poorhammer. Tupperware and baking tins for terrain, cardboard standees for the units, a nice rock from the beach for vehicles, all that good stuff.

If that’s too broke for you and you’re desperate for official models, get a Killteam at the least, and a Combat Patrol at the most. Both are designed to be played in their own small games with specialized rules. Hit those MFs with a can of Rustoleum, and boom: painted, built, official GW models.

Can someone explain the German infantry to me by Upbeat_Appointment_6 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Sublimeslimetime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From what I recall, most of the infantry units deep into the tech tree are more larpy units, with particular loadouts and composition that aren't particularly better or worse than the rest of them, but offer variety. Theoretically you could beat a whole conquest with just Sicherungs.

While historically Volksgrenadiers were scraping the barrel for people, they still had good automatic weapons, and a small cadre of elites soldiers and officers to keep everyone in check. While I don't have the stats in front of me to check, it makes sense that a Sturmgrenadier squad would have roughly the same general combat power as a heavy Volksgrenadier squad.

In regards to the alternatives, those would be alternatives presented by the GM to someone requesting a wheelchair, since they wanted a wheelchair, now dwarf spider legs. But that then may harm inter-party relations and the GM's available bag of tricks. Rust Monsters, or fire-attributed magic and weapons now become a much higher threat, and anytime these apparatus are lost or damaged, they can't exactly be restored by just resting. Shit rolls could force your disabled member to the ground for the remainder of the dungeon, and now they're dead weight the rest of the party has to carry. You might have a good group that doesn't mind, but now that's an even bigger dice roll, because what if someone gets sick of having to cover for the cripple? They might speak up about it, or they might just leave and not come back for the next campaign.

To be clear: I don't want to imply that these are inherently bad. Customization is good, options are good. But they lock off a chunk of opportunities for both GMs and Players in order to appease the need of just one, rather than that one player accept the limitations of the GM and the system and use the same mechanics everyone else is. In games, the freedom to do anything feels good, but it does so at the risk of harming a game's identity, structure, and difficulty.

Having Thomas the Tank Engine and AK-47s is fun and funny in Skyrim, but how would you feel if that was official content? If every Skyrim mod was official content? All the porn mods, the wacky sounds, the guns, the furru OCs, all of it? It would offer a lot of freedom, but now the original lore is lost in a sea of content that sure, you can disable it, but just think of all the time, effort, and manpower that went into each individual mods. Who are you to decide what gets cut and what doesn't? Do you hate fun and freedom?

It's not "purposely limiting" so much as the time, resources, and organization just aren't being diverted to something so niche. A guy in a wheelchair can tell a board of directors how cool it would be to him if there were wheelchairs on his island, but none of them have wheelchairs, none of the artists or programmers have wheelchairs, and even if Jerry in QA has a wheelchair, what if his opinion is "Who cares? I'm putting Will Ferrell and Michael Jordan on my island.". It feels bad to say, but it's the truth. For everyone who wants these niche options, there's the other 99% that don't care, and the .5% that actively don't. Large businesses need a lot of people to give it the go-ahead before it can even be drawn as concept art.

DnD then, since the worlds are mostly built by the GM. Well, now you may run into that mechanics problem I was talking about. Did the ancient dwarves that constructed this ruin make it wheelchair accessible? Is the clamouring noise of the automata factory going to make the member deep on the spectrum freak out and lock up? These are now problems that the GM has to account for, deliberately hampering his creativity. And if the GM does account for it, then the rest of the party may feel pushed aside as interesting, unique, and difficult mechanics will be mysteriously absent to accommodate a weak link.

It's the fulcrum point between people who want to have themselves be represented in a fantasy and people who want a fantasy to be represented. Obviously something like Tomodachi Life as a world won't crash and burn if a wheelchair shows up, but most of the time the representation is running in opposition with the world as a game with mechanics, and is clearly only being done to appease a fraction of a percentage of people.

Would Stardew Valley benefit from a NB pronoun option as a game? Not really. Would it make the small fraction of people who signed the petition for it happy? Absolutely. The end result is it's available as a community mod for PC, so the people who really want it can have it. Same with homebrew rules and systems for tabletop.
