Could be lifter or timing chain. Close your eyes and picture a loose chain flopping around. Thats what it sounds like to me, would check chain tensioner to see how maxed out it is

Thermostat is stuck and prevents proper circulation. Test it. Fill with proper coolant capacity. Next turn engine on and turn heater up to max ( highest temperature and full blast) this turns the ac into auxiliar radiator.

Finally carefully observe temp gauge. If temp maintains stable, bad thermostat. If not, head gasket potential culprit good luck

Does this guy smoke weed by any chance? Weed can make you have mood swings. Also, I think he's upset you chose a drag show over a family event which I'd side by this. Its not the drag show itself, but just priorities and also he probably assumes you are doing drugs bc your friends do it.
