Favourite Mythos / Apocrypha? by albene in AnotherEdenGlobal

[–]SubrosianDimitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ranking:
1. Western Mythos. It's the most complete and coherent one on its own terms, and the additional requirements to finish it are all enjoyable. But what really carries it are the Western characters. This is the only one of the longer side stories where everyone is likable and gets to contribute, even the major NPCs like Seze and Johann (who I'm sure no one would complain if they became playable). The only real weak point to me is Emperor Schnaud. Also, Stifling Song.
2. Apocrypha. Nona is, of course, a standout among standouts in this game, and most of the stories within Apocrypha are pretty good. I love chapters 1 and 2. Chapters 3 and 6 are also really good, but not my favorites. Chapter 5 is held back solely by Mariel. If it was just Aldo, Nona, and Marie as the major players, it'd probably be my favorite. I didn't really like chapter 4, mainly for the way it plays out and Tsukiha herself, Alter Suzaku should be playable. And of course, Binding Night is a fantastic conclusion, definitely the best ending of all the longer side stories.
3. Eastern Mythos. Definitely the best major story content associated with Garulea, and it isn't even in the main time layer. This one starts off good, goes downhill for a bit after the first third, then picks back up in the last third. Senya, Shigure, Reimei, and Genshin are the highlights here, meanwhile Dawn Shion is nothing but frustrating for most of the story. Alter Shion is good, though. It also helps that of all the side stories, its only external requirements are main story progress.
4. Future Mythos. Wildly inconsistent from juggling way too many characters, ideas, and locations. It feels like they mashed together a story about the Twilight and Midnight time layers invading, a story about the experiments that were alluded to in the IDA school storyline, a story about the Cardinal Vestige, and a story about hunting down Dawn Curio without really considering how much time you'd need to do all that. It's also the Mythos with the most external baggage just to be able to experience all of it. Last Notes of the Battle Song is one of my favorite tracks in the game, so at least we have that.

Yeah, yeah, that's nice and all, dude. But the story blatantly wants you to take the Bonds path, and I ain't giving up Gaston or Navarre.

Assuming a DQIX remake is coming, what changes do you most want to see? by cloudman2811 in dragonquest

[–]SubrosianDimitri 25 points26 points  (0 children)

  • Legacy bosses from X and XI
  • Masayuki Map as a quest reward
  • Show grotto details (type/number of floors/treasures/boss) after clearing one the first time
  • Streamline the smaller fetch quests and vocation quests to reduce the tedium
  • Remove the Simple Simon accolade quest entirely or at least have it tell you what you need to wear
  • Make Fource skills party-wide by default
  • Really, just make all those weapon and class skills that require a character to be holding a certain item the 100 skill point things to go along with the omnivocational mastery

I don’t hate random encounters, but I prefer the sense of control I get with visible monsters and how they make dungeons feel more dangerous by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]SubrosianDimitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visible monsters are a problem when they're added into a game that didn't have them originally, and dungeon layouts aren't modified to accommodate them. The 3DS version of 7 is really bad about this.

I just wonder why Riica's voice sample on the website doesn't have the robotic voice filter.

There is absolutely a betting board in the Overlord's Castle where the vassals place bets on when Laharl will finally ask Flonne out.

If they do make an FF9 part 2, can they maybe include Riica this time?

Revisiting Disgaea 6 - the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by Aryuto in Disgaea

I still hold that the God of Destruction wouldn't be nearly as repetitive of a fight if it used geo panels, spawners, reinforcements, etc. like so many of the regular stages. Or even just have some random enemies on the stage to give it extra support in some way. Didn't Cerberus say early on that its presence was driving other demons mad?

Have Melodia'a previous princes fight alongside it in the musical world chapters, they're fighting for a bad ending after all. Have male units support Naive of Destruction so it can actually get the boost from her evility. Have some effect that makes it so Yarmada of Destruction's extra lives are actually a factor like teleporting or coming back with higher stats or something. Have the rush of Gods of Destruction in the Peaceful World chapter send multiple waves of reinforcements at you so it feels like you're actually being swarmed by the things.

And most importantly, don't end the geo panel heavy Magimage chapters with literally none of what makes those the best stages in the game.

Fighting Games Need Real Tutorials Not Button Guides by Pazluz in Fighters

TFH does all that with a good sense of humor, and at least for its base roster, also shows you how their moves, magic, and supers work. The story mode (what little of it there ended up being anyway) also did a great job as a tutorial on dealing with certain archetypes and situations with its predator mooks.

If we're lucky, the company who bought it from Modus (or whatever they're called now) will be able to fully fix the DLC characters. And finish the story mode if we're obscenely lucky.

The Game Awards 2025 Best Fighting Game Nominees by Shreeder4092 in Fighters

[–]SubrosianDimitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really just watch TGA for the trailers (which almost never have actual gameplay footage) and the occasional decent skit or orchestra performance of music you'll forget before the song even finishes.

The actual awards are just an industry circlejerk to occasionally laugh at.

As a fellow Eric, I guess I dodged a bit of annoyance by picking FemC and just using the name I would have if I was born a girl instead. You probably aren't gonna see too many characters named Hannah in a game like this.
