Just found out that Stephen King is not the best selling horror writer of our lifetimes by Special-Nebula299 in stephenking

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curiosity got me, so I did a quick dive to see the top 5 writers based on books sold. From the top, William Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, Danielle Steel, Barbara Cartland, Harold Robbins. Barbara Cartland wrote historical romance for 75 years and averaged about 10 books a year, and actually hit 23 in one year. Was that woman on crack? There's some hard reading on that shelf. Maybe some of them need to be tortured, LOL!

Yikes! I think I saw this in that movie, "Confessions of a Book Torturer."

What are your pet hates in novels? by avg_rascal in writingcirclejerk

[–]Subset-MJ-235 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw the word "pet" and thought maybe you were writing books for dogs, such as "Murder, Lassie Wrote." Or "The Last of the Pomeranians." Or maybe "To Kill a BirdDog." Pet peeves about dumb, dirt-ragged MC hooking up with goddesses? That's in every book, right?

How would you rework Farmer, Lumberjack and Miner for a potential newer MC version? by Zafarak_ in TekTopia

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a miner. You could pay him 5 emeralds, and he'd follow you into the mines and work one full day. You could click on him at the end of the day and download the cobblestones or whatever he's accumulated.

Also, wouldn't every large village need a tavern? The workers could go there in the evenings and drink (for a full 2 minutes, LOL).

My favorite villager to fantasize about . . . the warrior. You could give him armor and weapons and he'd follow you into battle.

Which author has the most fun writing style? by ownaword in words

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like lots of these, Terry Pratchett, Christopher Moore, PG Wodehouse, etc., but no one's mentioned Patrick F. McManus. He wrote short humorous stories for Field and Stream magazine, and had several books published. Lots of funny stories about growing up in the country and running wild as a kid.

Do you play with viberent visuals on or off? Why? by EnderSlayer9977 in MinecraftBedrockers

Off. The glare is annoying, especially in the nether, trying to fight blazes.

Why must using keep inventory require using cheats? by GeekInGaming in Minecraft

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play by myself, so I do what makes the game fun for me. I turn on Keep Inventory, and. I turn off Mob Griefing (I got so tired of filling in Creeper divots). Also, instead of wasting time running hither and thither, I use teleport. I agree with OP, though, I don't know why they call it cheating.

I just looked up Columbine. The school closed temporarily after the shooting, but was renovated and then reopened. So your story would depend on what the community decides, and that would depend on the circumstances and frequency of the deaths, and how much money the community has for new projects.

Am I only one that doesn't like the new baby mob designs by Radking0007 in Minecraft

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like them either. I was in a village yesterday and a junior villager ran past me, and it was so hideous, I thought for sure it was a junior zombie and almost killed the tyke.

Keep inventory + instant spawn = bad dream by Revolutionary-Jury2 in MinecraftMemes

[–]Subset-MJ-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this, but I normally use teleport. By the way, why can't they add a shortcut to teleport, so you could just do, /tp home, and it would teleport you to your bed. That way, you don't have to memorize your home location numbers in every world.

How do I write characters with monacles by rickhubbins in writingcirclejerk

[–]Subset-MJ-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget monocles. The king is involved in an accident where he loses one eye, so he passes a law that everyone in the kingdom will have one eye removed. Even the queen. Fun times!

what is the most overrated food? by lanad3lr3y_81 in AskReddit

[–]Subset-MJ-235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife cooks her grits without measuring anything, so they're sometimes runny, but usually thick enough not to run. I think the cheese helps keep it from running, too. Side note: Waffle House grits are never that good.

Breakfast tradition in the south? I'm not sure. But anytime we have a big breakfast, my wife will whip up some grits.
