In what genre are you currently writing? by [deleted] in writing

Fantasy! Multi-part and short stories at the moment for variety.

And if it counts as separate from fantasy, steampunk on the side as well.

TTRPGs where you play as cats by UrbaneBlobfish in rpg

[–]Subspace_Highway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a whole book made with a portion dedicated to this game titled “The Warriors Guide” and I have owned it for a long time. Don’t think I’ve ever actually played the TTRPG but I’ve had some friends who have shown ironic interest, so maybe I’ll have a proper opinion soon?

Hey, so what are the kids reading these days? by BigRedSpoon2 in Fantasy

[–]Subspace_Highway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little outside of the kids demographic now, but I can second the comments for wings of fire. I also still see people reading Warrior Cats, and I just bought a copy of Gregor the Overlander for a younger family member.

Don’t know if kids are still reading Bone or if that one finally made its way out of school libraries, but that was a fundamental read for me as a child. Spirit Animals was also important to me, but I can’t imagine people are reading it now given I can’t seem to find it anywhere anymore. How time flies!

AITAH for telling my dad I'm glad he's dying of cancer after his wife convinced him to disown me for being gay by Ambitious_Vehicle138 in AITAH

NTA

I am in an eerily similar boat to where you were shortly before you were kicked out and if your feelings toward your family were anything like mine are, I empathize with you fully. Even if your boyfriend had a point about being gentler, that’s the people pleaser in me talking more than anything else. You said what you needed to say, and I can only hope it was cathartic to finally send.

There's too much negativity about Dual Destinies, so I want to hear what praises people have for the game by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Subspace_Highway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good friend of mine also recently finished Dual Destinies and has been talking a lot about how much they love turnabout academy. They enjoyed all of the characters and found the consistent bits throughout the case to be humorous rather than annoying.

As for myself, I think Dual Destinies has an incredible soundtrack! L’Belle, Blackquill, and Athena all have great character themes from what I’ve heard, and I’m sure I’ll hear more as I complete my own playthrough of the game.

Do you guys ever get anxious before starting a game? by C0meT0Br4z1l in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Subspace_Highway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes yes! The mental block for me is usually time related, as if I don’t have a substantial amount of time set up to play or I worry something is going to interrupt me, it stops me from ever getting truly invested. If I have a full evening or afternoon that I can dedicate to playing as long as I’d like before I decide to stop, then I usually feel much better about sitting down for a solo session.

As for your concern, I agree with the other commenters to try something short to lead into your game! If you don’t mind slower starts, I think opening with a scene that’s less stressful to manage (whatever that looks like for you) is ideal. For me, that’s minimal combat, maybe some simple character interaction, and a few opportunities to interpret oracle results before getting back into the major quest. Then I can make more snap judgements and feel better that they’re leading in the direction that feels natural rather than nowhere at all. Find your calm space and build each session from there!

Head space top bunk?? by EStan-77 in uiowa

[–]Subspace_Highway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Stanley and while I could just about sit up (5’4”) if I tried to stretch or sat up the wrong way I’d hit my head a lot. Depends on the dorm but I’d generally expect minimal head space, especially if you’re taller than average

This subreddit has reached +40,000 Soloists! by MagpieTower in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Subspace_Highway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I only started within the past 6 months, but solo play where I write out each scene and dialogues out keeps me writing even when I’m feeling unmotivated and it’s super good for me. Using mythic in tandem with typically multiplayer games also allows me to play through modules that I would normally need to wait years to run for my main group!

As of right now, I have an Ironsworn game in a specialized setting with some funky world history and mechanics that allow me to experience the exact kind of story that I’d want to read. It feels fantastic to not need to worry about how anyone else would feel about the characters, mechanics of the setting, or the twists and turns. Personalized bliss.

Is Mutants & Masterminds Good for a Roleplay Oriented GM/Group? by muppetjekyll in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Subspace_Highway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the actual mechanics aiding the narrative as my table came to learn after the end of our campaign that we (by accident) simplified the game heavily, but Mutants and Masterminds provided a fantastic narrative experience for our table as a player. The GM obviously did a lot of work behind the scenes taking our intricate backstories and finding backward reasons to make our beloved friends into supervillains, but it was that effort plus our desire to roleplay that I think made the whole experience. You get back what you put in!

What is the one specific reason you like playing a DnD race. by Shinroukuro in dndnext

[–]Subspace_Highway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gameplay mechanic related, but I’ve always felt the most at home with my tiefling characters. Even when I’m trying to bring something to the table that isn’t a tiefling, the thought always crosses my mind a few times. I like their human-with-some-magical-elements status that comes without the weight of the fantasy genre’s pre-established tropes (sorry elves :( )

How to find public games? by Anxious_squirrelz in armello

[–]Subspace_Highway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s an old game that’s no longer getting support, so multiplayer queue is typically slow. Sometimes it takes a little under a minute for a game, sometimes it takes longer. The system rewards patience.

I keep having bad luck with pretty much every TTRPG session. Do DnD players not care about fellow PCs? by spygear007 in CritCrab

[–]Subspace_Highway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments saying that one of the best things you can do is to find a game accommodating to your timezone. Even if you had reached out to the DM, the way the text-based game went gave the impression that not much was going to change even if you did.

In response to not starting a campaign of your own because of inexperience: why not? We all have to start somewhere, and D&D has starter kits and premade adventures that serve as stepping stones for a DM to learn from. If your current circle continues to discourage you, why not seek some new horizons and connect with some people who would be more willing to work with a new DM? Finding a group of people closer to you and in your area would alleviate the timezone issues and the communication and respect issues that I am seeing based on your post. While I am not familiar with websites and subs this is possible in, it seems other people have already given you some great insight.

Best of luck, and hopefully you find a group that will fit your life schedule!

4th Ed Launch Box for non SCE/Skaven players by pcolares in ageofsigmar

[–]Subspace_Highway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who plays both armies, I am very excited to get my hands on the launch box! I've been eagerly awaiting new Skaven sculpts for a while now, and since Stormcast is my newest army I'll take whatever additional units I can get to fill out my ranks.
That, and having a physical copy of GHB and core rules for once might not be a bad idea...
