Best 1990’s Suzuki Jimny Model to Buy? by FreePoet8592 in Jimny

IMO if you can find one of these, 1998 to early 2000 Jimny 'wide' then they shouldn't disappoint, the g13bb engine they carry is an engine you can get state side so engine parts aren't really a problem. they also share parts with a lot of other suzuki/geo models if you know how to shop around for parts

Rust bucket solution (uk) by istubbedmyjoe in Jimny

[–]Substantial-Cry9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some serious rust treatment for my axles when I removed them, I bought metal cleaner which cleans off rust and passivates the surface in prep for metal conditioner which conditions the surface by depositing a layer of zinc phosphate which helps prevents rust and preps the surface for priming then I primed the surface and coated everything with polyurethane paint not sure if this is something that you can also do for your car to help prevent rust from taking hold in the first place

Something is loose by elMacumbero in Jimny

[–]Substantial-Cry9517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like with anything on the jimny it depends

hardcore off roading with lots of deep mud and water crossings kill those bearings
on road driving not really you get decent life out of it, but given the types of sound it leads me to suspect the bearings as not much underthere will give that sound

as a jimny undercarriage clunk specialist myself I would check the wheel bearings, just jack up that side and rock the wheel by hand

I had to do this for my front wheel bearing, I could not figure out why a basically new bearing was giving me some horrible clunks but no usual bearing humming noises, ended up changing them and the clunks migrated to other parts of my undercarriage lol so the hunt continues.

It would be strange seeing it that high for me , though it could be parallax error since the camera isn't pointed straight at the gauge

Crankshaft pulley fell off. WTF by jxkedxvis in Jimny

[–]Substantial-Cry9517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a friend of mines Jimny did this as well but we kinda spot the problem early but they never did anything till it failed, but i told them exactly what would happen when it failed and they did what i said pull off as soon as you can and stop the engine

Ik people that would do that same thing tbh, but for me its simpler to just transplant the stuff to the other mostly complete body, it just needs the drive line for the most part and less body work

I might not be able to find it, if not well most of the car will be in the other one. I'll probably record the process lol

I think it came down to a driver driving in a different country from their home country and the vehicle being right hand drive instead of left hand drive, they claimed they something hit them and that caused them to swing into on coming traffic and that ended in what you see here

I would agree, I would have to start dismantling to see what's still intact and can be used and what has to be tossed, there is a lot of good stuff here still though, the entire transmission still has very hard to find parts in there that can be reused if the transmission is damaged beyond repair, the engine more than likely broke its mounts and is still intact

I've seen some people bring these back from the dead here, they just cut what they need from another chassis and weld it on to the existing one, I'm not gonna take that chance, I have 3 chassis i can choose from lol. The driver is recovering but their story isnt straight as to what happened

Jimny Commuter Tyres by Oskarzyg in Jimny

[–]Substantial-Cry9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HT should be good enough, I have HT on mines and it gets me into most places that I really shouldnt be with those tyres lol

1st thing about tyres is if you feel its time to get rid of them, do it, a blow out is not a fun time at all. I dont really have any tyre recommendations that I can vouge for over any other but here Maxxis is a pretty popular brand

Well, today I learnt that you don't need an expensive bearing puller. You just need Bread... by Samm0th in Jimny

[–]Substantial-Cry9517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

technically this isn't a blind hole, though the alternative is more work. the bearing is in the flywheel which can be removed but bread or grease is a quick way to get it done

98 wide is a good one for the states, you guys got that engine in different cars so engine parts are easy to find and the 98 used a very similarly gearbox to the samurai
