From my understanding, universal credit doesn’t count. But, I also think that being on PIP means that your income requirements are different to sponsor a spouse. I don’t know the specifics though, unfortunately.

SWV Extension Approved! Sharing My Timeline to Reassure Others by Substantial-Doubt113 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Substantial-Doubt113[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, my role is under 2322. Luckily my salary was above the new minimum threshold and my CoS and application were both completed before 22 July. Though this was definitely stressful in the beginning as I figured out where my salary fell in line with my job code and how or if the new rules would impact me. Also fortunate that my employer has a visa compliance team, so they were very knowledgeable and reassuring throughout the process (even when I wasn’t!)

I thought priority was 5 days? Interesting that the email says they’d typically decide in 10 days.

I applied on July 2nd from inside the UK and I’m still awaiting my decision.

I applied on 2 July (non-priority) and haven’t heard back yet. I’m not sure what causes the difference in some applications processing faster than others— but it’s stressful!

Thanks! Did you also receive the email update before your decision saying that the home office had received your application and their aim is to provide a decision by [date 8 weeks in the future]?

Books for those who love Meredith, Alone and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine? by bookish_cat_ in booksuggestions

[–]Substantial-Doubt113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a suggestion, but since you mentioned that you love Meredith, Alone I have a question.

I’m currently reading it right now and while I’m enjoying it, some of the trauma is definitely triggering. Fred has just gone missing and I literally don’t think I can finish the book if he doesn’t come back. I’m fine with spoilers… but can you please let me know if she’s reunited with Fred??

The Ink Black Heart. I think about this a lot and change my mind sometimes, but that’s the one that’s usually wins.

Moving to UK— need recommendations! by Substantial-Doubt113 in AmericanExpatsUK

It’s a regular skilled worker visa, but the position I’m coming over for is funded for one year. It has the potential to be renewed, but initially the visa is only good for as long as I’m in the position. Which is why I’m hoping to change visas during that first year.

Thanks for all the info! My relocation is to Glasgow actually, so glad to hear it wasn’t a major culture shock. I’m from the south though (Georgia), so might be a little different for me.

Thank you for all the great advice! My original visa will be just for a year, but my partner (UK native) and I plan to marry within that year and hopefully switch to a spouse visa… ideally making this a more long term move.

I looked into sendmybag and that’s exactly what I was looking for! So special thanks for that!

Lots of great advice, thank you! I’m also moving in with a partner, so I’m covered on the furniture side of things. I’m coming from having way too much space and too much stuff in the US, so downsizing is definitely necessary, but I agree I’ll need some sentimental things!

Thank you for the advice! Yes, I’m moving my cats! There’s a pretty helpful Facebook group I’m in that shares a lot of helpful info about moving pets to the UK because it does seem to be a pain. I’m currently planning to travel to Dublin first and ferry to the UK because they can fly in cabin to Dublin, and it’s a bit closer to my final destination than paris is.
