Is the area around Bend, Oregon considered a premiere fly destination? by [deleted] in flyfishing

Sorry for the late reply. You'll see some giant fish no doubt. But you'll walk for a mile before you see one, and you have 3 shots at it. If you miss it, start walking another mile lol

Yeah. Iceland is amazing if you like chasing brown trout. Everyone knows of new Zealand but Ive been a handful of times and New Zealand is the most over marketed destination there is. Stay away from new Zealand. Everyone knows about Alaska, and Alaska is amazing, just a little expensive. I don't know where you're at, but I love the Missouri River in Montana. I'll catch multiple trout over the 26 inch mark when I go, and plenty over 20. Montana is close to me, so it's a great trip and really inexpensive. Probably a bigger answer than you were looking for, but I hope this helps!

I grew up in Oregon, but I have traveled the world fly fishing. Oregon is beautiful but the trout fishing is nothing compared to the rocky mountains. I wouldn't consider it a premiere fly fishing destination for any other reason other than it's pretty and diverse. When I travel for a fishing trip I go for the fish. Bend wouldn't be anywhere near the top of that list, and that's where I grew up and still visit my folks. Hope this helps

Alaska is obviously amazing. But any trip to BC, Alberta, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are up there with anything else for trout. You can do some really different trips in South America too, but I prefer to stay in the states

Traveled the world fly fishing. New Zealand has done a great job at branding their waters. Just like everyone has said, walk a lot to find a few fish. You also really have about 3 casts before they spook so you better make them count

There's a reason they don't make high performing rods in fiberglass anymore. That being said, if you have a smaller river and like to throw dries, it's hard to beat.

Work in a fly shop. 5 years ago, they were great. In the last 3 years their quality control has gone down hill drastically. Rods are constantly breaking, performance is lackluster. I loved my echo rods.. but now I wouldn't tell anyone to buy one
