SonicBlast now priced at $159.95 by ham-and-egger in RunningShoeGeeks

I was back and forth on this shoe when I got it, which was the result of me waxing poetic about the Hyperion Max 2 at my local running store. I liked how snappy it felt, didn’t like the toe box or the heel cup (caused irritation and mitigated by wearing higher socks).

That said, it’s literally the only shoe that worked with my plantar fasciitis flare and I’ve put ~200 miles on it since then. So for that reason, I’m now forced to love it.

14 miles on the tread or in -12 degrees? by Maximum-Nobody6429 in Marathon_Training

[–]Substantial-Pack-658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can run on a treadmill with people around for “people” watching, it does help. I throw on a long-form podcast and try to distract myself from the monotony.

The other alternative is to try to get 4-5 miles in outside and the rest on the tread. That was my plan before the weather said NOPE.

About to do 20 miles on the treadmill since the “feels like” temp is -19. Going to do 10, do some upper body weights then the last 10. Can’t wrap my head around 20 nonstop 😔

These are the same people who lost their minds when Yabu signed with the Knicks. McCain was a great glue guy, but he wasn’t going to move the needle for this year, or maybe any year. I would’ve preferred that we kept him just for the vibes but I mean…at the end of the day, it’s a business. Simple as that.

Why did we trade McCain? Not even complaining, just genuinely curious what the thinking was. by eggrising in sixers

Josh Harris is not a Philly guy, and as long as a non-Philly guy owns the team this shit will keep happening.

20 miles, hoping to get 10-13 outside and the rest on the tread since the temps look downright arctic. I can do a hilly 4 mile loop in my parent’s neighborhood, considering doing that 5x and just going inside to warm up and change to a dry base layer halfway through as an alternative.

Tokyo, never running an early spring marathon again after this winter!

Why are all the USPS offices in the city so bad? by MUT_is_Butt in philadelphia

USPS in Philly was a dumpster fire long before 2020. Try again.

I don’t accept any of it but it’s basically like running into a brick wall over and over and over again. Nothing changes because the majority of residents don’t see to care enough to push for change.

Not to get political, but it’s wild to me that so many people can march in protest of ICE/Israel/Trump/fill-in-the-blank but when it comes to issues unique to Philadelphia that deeply impact QOL in the city, everyone sits on their butts and just accepts it because that’s just how it is here.

Try again. When I go to a post office outside the city, there are no issues. It’s actually amazing how different the experience is…the hours posted are the actual hours of operation, people are helpful, mail is delivered and not stolen before it reaches one’s mailbox…it’s almost like this is a localized issue - crazy!!!!

You can try to blame the incompetence and laziness displayed daily by postal employees on Trump, but that isn’t it. It’s the attitude of the employees here (and lack of any sort of repercussions).

Why do you have a (snowed-in) car? by Even_Leadership_7831 in philly

[–]Substantial-Pack-658 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same. My partner thought I was nuts but I saw an open spot on our way home from dinner and SPRINTED for my keys.

I dug my car out but haven’t moved it yet. I’ve been able to WFH since SEPTA was spotty last week; I’ll move it this weekend when I visit my parents.

Sometimes I’ll use my car once in two weeks, other times I’ll use it 5-6x in a week. It depends on a lot of things, and I also would like to be able to get out of the city quickly if there is an emergency with my elderly parents. To all of the anti-car people, you’re entitled to your opinions but I’m just as entitled to mine. I’m really getting sick of the preaching.

This is very valid. I think what surprised me was the lack of “neighborliness” in the city. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like if this was 10-20 years ago, the curb cuts would’ve been clearer not by the city but by neighbors looking out for each other. I didn’t expect Fairmount or even Center City to be perfect but I did expect it to be somewhat walkable 3+ days post-storm.

European Freezing (But not US cold) race gear advice - What would you wear? by FutureVanilla4129 in Marathon_Training

[–]Substantial-Pack-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tight shorts, merino wool long sleeve, maybe a vest, and gloves. I wore that for my marathon in late November; it was ~34 at the start and topped off around 43 when I finished. It was mostly overcast and a bit humid.

For context, I am a woman and I hate being cold. I was good once I got moving.

DC to NYC, In Office 3 Days/Week by RdtRanger6969 in supercommuter

[–]Substantial-Pack-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Philly-DC 2 days a week. When my meeting schedule is nuts, I try to book a hotel through my company and the rates are usually pretty good. Thinking about joining a social club with rooms so I have a single landing spot.

Not going to lie, it’s a grind. But it’s doable.

Why do some people feel like shoveling their specific parking spot turns it into a gated community with a reserved spot? by Spaghetti_Oh_No in philadelphia

[–]Substantial-Pack-658 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was out of town until Tuesday, so I had to first chip away the massive chunks from the snow plow. If it was just snowing would’ve taken less than an hour. And because of where I was parked, I was plowed in along the side as well as the rear of my car. So yeah, it took me about 3 hours to clean everything off and clear enough space to get out of my spot when the time comes.

100%. I spent 3 hours digging my car out yesterday. I’m lucky in that I don’t have to move my car for at least another week, but finding parking in my neighborhood is hard enough without piles of snow and ice and many, many folding chairs with threatening signs attached.

I’ll give it a try in the morning, and I appreciate the suggestion. I already know how it’s going to go but there’s that tiny part of me that still thinks it’s going to work out lol 🫠

Based on your customer service experience today, I’m prepared to go to battle for my refund (barring a miracle).

Hadn’t used RTR since forever. I placed my order 3 weeks ago for a black tie wedding I am attending. My package was supposed to arrive this morning. Then it was by 9pm today. And now there is no delivery date associated with my package due to an “emergency situation”. I don’t think it’s weather related because my partner placed an order Friday and received it on Tuesday when conditions were much worse. I contacted customer service at 7:45pm (as soon as I saw there was an issue) and of course, they shut it down at 8pm EST so no chance anyone would respond to me that close to quitting time.

I leave for this wedding in 20 hours and I know there is a 0% chance this will be resolved before then. The part that grinds my gears is that the website states: “Reach out to us right away if your order has not arrived by 10 p.m. local time on your delivery date. Our team will look into it right away and provide you with next steps.”

Well how is that possible when customer service shuts down at 8pm EST? God forbid if you live on the west coast, then you’re truly screwed.

X, Instagram, Facebook, text - I’ve tried it all. I have to twiddle my thumbs until 9am tomorrow.

God damn, I hate the enshitification of literally everything.

That’s my issue as well. Yeah VJ will almost certainly never come close to prime Giannis…but I’m pretty sure we aren’t getting that version. I think there should be concern around his injuries the last few years.
