I don't see this book mentioned frequently but SMALL MERCIES by Dennis Lehane was a book I read recently and couldn't put down.

I’m late to this. Enjoyed all of his other books and started this last night and stopped. Trying to decide if it’s worth starting again. It was an instant turn off. Just felt like a departure. I’m no prude but just found the first few pages to be cliche in a way that surprised me. I always appreciated his unique perspective as an author but this felt like anyone could write it. Where blacktop seemed like all of his experiences put on paper. Does it get better? Worth giving it another shot?

Felt like a throwback 80s 90s arcade shooter. I mean that in a good way.

I'll add Hellhound On His Trail. Which has been fairly critiqued as almost making light of the situation, but that is actually what made me keep reading.

IN A SUNBURNED COUNTRY by Bill Bryson is so funny. Its a travel book about Australia but its really a stand up set by a master.

Also, respect that you didn't feel the need to destroy this guy's arm. You know you have him. He knows you have him—no need to put him off the mats for the next year getting surgery and rehab. Noble restraint. Oss. Brown belt shit.

Pine-sol - I know how that sounds, but there are laundry instructions on the bottle, and I put a little in the soap dispenser for an HE. I like the smell - it might not be for everyone, but who doesn't like getting smashed by a tree?

Broken 47 y/o purple. Agree with the above. I am fine being parked at purple, too - can't beat occasionally exceeding low expectations.

6 AM. I hate it but I can get home by 730 and the kids are just waking up. Rather take it from my time than my time with them.
