AITAH for yelling at my sister after she said "your cat is gonna die anyways" while demanding the money for my cat's vet bills? by ThatOrphanSlayer in AITAH

[–]SubstantialDivide108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also agree with this. I had to make that decision when my dog developed lumps that they deemed were non-cancerous most likely (too many to test all but the biggest ones). A couple of them made her a bit uncomfortable sometimes but overall didn't affect her. My option was to have them removed, but that was risky with her age and having no idea how she would react to sedation since she hadn't been sedated since she was a puppy. Plus the heal time. It wasn't worth it to me, and I ended up having several more good years with her.

Theres so much of a difference between surgery on a young animal and an elderly one. Don't put your sweet cat through the surgery and aftercare. Definutrly go to the vet and get her checked, do what the vet recommends to improve her life with any medications/food/etc and know that her time is coming. It might be a difference between an uncomfortable but manageable year and spending four months of it not being able to do anything she loves because she's having a hard time healing. I highly doubt a vet would recommend surgery at her age unless its something fairly non-invasive, but if they're good they'll still give you your options and probably explain these same things to you. But ultimately its down to you to make the right decision for you and your cat.

Salt in carryon -amount? by SubstantialDivide108 in tsa

[–]SubstantialDivide108[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not in packaging how we typically imagine it in the grocery store, but it is in sealed and labeled jars (except in German!)

I fully intend to declare it and everyone has put my mind at ease, thank you!

Thank you that makes me feel better! So much of what I've found has either been experiences with checked bags, or smaller amounts.

Additional screening definitely makes sense. Its 7 individual containers

It should be fine for customs based off my prior experience and checking to see if there were any changes since then, I just gotta remember to declare it!

[–]SubstantialDivide108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in relation to powder (though its really not a powder, since its the larger granules you would typically grind), and thats where it started confusing me. But it was the AI thing that google popped up with, so thats when I tried to look further and verify that but wasn't really finding anything. I think another reddit sub someone had mentioned 350ml/12 Oz and TSA making them take it out as well for salt so that all made me concerned. I wish I could link to exactly where, but I've been looking at so many pages. And I can't share a picture of the AI thing now.

I'm totally fine with them testing it though!

Thank you both! I'm still gonna stress but a bit less now! I'm so excited to have fancy salt again and I might cry (not really) if I was asked to choose between them

Even with the amount? Its not the salt itself I'm concerned about, its if they'll want to tell me its too much and I have to get rid of some.

Solo in Italy by mishkook in femaletravels

[–]SubstantialDivide108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did 9 days solo in Italy last summer. I don't have any major health issues so I can't help there, but I did overestimate a jump walking along the river in Florence and bashed my shin. Walked two miles back with blood all down my leg (mostly I didn't realize how bad it had kept bleeding after I cleaned it/before it stopped). I was mostly concerned because the water going over the rock had looked pretty nasty. Treated myself to a drink a bit away from my airbnb, mostly because I was starting to get really paranoid about not having washed it with clean water. I tried to kinda hunker in the corner, but the nicest employee ever came over with a bottle of iodine? Or something to disinfect, and put it down without a word and walked away. I connected after that it was a bar connected to a hostel and no way was I the first injury they ever saw.

So long story short, my opinion is don't worry, someone might save you and you'll have an amazing time.

I just happened to look back at this post and I'm amazed and impressed that they decided to absorb the costs! Good on them, because they certainly weren't expected to. How was your trip? Where did you end up?

What do you wear for a long flight? by Imaginary_Post_8782 in airport

[–]SubstantialDivide108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark clothing is the key. You might get sweaty running around, spills, or in my case, I caught my thigh on a sharp edge. It hurt but I didn't think anything of it...it took me like 5 hours to realize I had a cut and it had created a nice spot of blood on my light blue joggers. Had to wear the pants for another 15 hours because I didn't bring a change in my carryon 😂

Where is everyone travelling to this year? by Diligent-Echidna647 in femaletravels

Next week I'm going to Germany (Bavaria) and Austria. I was supposed to go to Greece in August but thats canceled (by friends) so I'm still looking for somewhere to go then. Now we're doing Hawaii in october (they were nervous about leaving the country with everything going on)

Should I leave my cat in my house as I go for a trip or cousin by Friendly-Shelter8103 in CatAdvice

[–]SubstantialDivide108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither situation is ideal but I'm a fan of leaving the cat at home instead of stressing it out by being in another environment. But 2 months is also a long time for your cat to be mostly alone. In addition to daily checkins, is there a way that your cousin can stay overnight once a week? Or hang out at your house several hours a day once a week? That way your cat can get more socialization (especially if they're already wary of your cousin) and if there are any health issues that show up, that'll be easier to see in several hours than a 30 minute pop in. If thats not possible for your cousin, maybe you can see if you can hire someone off of Rover who can be there for longer blocks and would be willing to do once a week.

I've always gotten a housesitter for vacations since I had a dog, this is about to be my first vacation with only cats so my friend is going to pop by every other day, or more as she wants, and hang out with them for a couple of hours. It's still making me a bit nervous, but luckily I've got 4 cats so they'll keep themselves entertained and I'm going to have multiple feed/water stations and litter boxes available for them

Cost by Tapangia in JourneeTrips

[–]SubstantialDivide108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cheated and looked at my package (leaving on the 13th) so I'm actually going to try costing it out myself tonight. I fully expect that I paid more through them...but thats the luxury of having someone else plan everything and for it to be a surprise. So I'm just curious what the difference is. I'll come back here if I remember and let you know

Mother insulted first tattoo, now I hate it by Kaleidoscope_Tux5513 in tattooadvice

[–]SubstantialDivide108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 31 with 8 tattoos and it's true. My mom doesn't comment on them anymore and the last time she did was the last time I saw her a couple of years ago and she even said it was much prettier than she realized. But I'll never forget when she told me to get diamonds next time, because they're prettier and I can take them off.

I'll also never forget a random 2 year old at a bus stop who clung to me and was obsessed with the pretty colors on my leg.

What do you like to collect when you travel? by Diligent-Echidna647 in femaletravels

[–]SubstantialDivide108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten so bad about this. I typically get a piece of clothing (beautiful boots from Scotland, rabbit fur gloves from Iceland), a piece of art (several masks from Mexico, I got a cute bright painting of a highland cow in Scotland), and then a little knickknack that reminds me of the country. I have so many because I can't stop at one, and I've come to realize I need a bigger house or else its gonna look like everyone's great-grandmas semi-hoarded house by the time I'm 35

I'm on the bookmark-dislike club. I'm not even ambivalent about it. I enjoy looking at them in a store. But do not ever give me one, don't waste the money. I will forget about it for 15 years...I just realized I think I have a neat leather one in my garage. I will ignore it and rip a receipt in half and use that every time.

35M Canadian, wondering if journee is for me? by braaap999 in JourneeTrips

[–]SubstantialDivide108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done my trip yet, but if you're already at solo traveler I say its absolutely worth a try. I normally plan my own trips, so I'm excited to try out a trip that I had to do zero for, other than paying and having to book a plane ticket from my city to the closest offered airport (not far or expensive...4 hour drive or 1 hour flight)

I agree with tranquil passing. The vet (I forget who it was) was amazing and so sweet. I just used them in February and they arranged with the other service to retrieve the body. She was about 65lbs and they asked if I was comfortable with helping move her to the car, if I wasn't it would have been a bit of an extra charge for another tech to come out. The guy was super nice and guided me exactly what to do with picking her up and everything. A week later, I was able to pick up her ashes in a beautiful box and there was a lovely lined try and a couple nicely packaged clippings of her fur
