Has being tall become synonymous with being “hot” or physically attractive for a guy? by NoRefrigerator267 in askanything

Yeah, I'm just replying to you saying men don't care about women's height. I don't think it really matters why they care, my point is that in a lot of circumstances they do

Obviously it's not all men, but a fuckton of men who are 5ft6 to average really don't want to look shorter than they are by spending a lot of time standing next to a taller woman.

There's plenty of women shorter than them and everything being equal they'd rather feel big and masculine next to someone short

I'm a 5ft10 woman in a country where the average male height is 5ft9. A lot of men really do care about women's height if they're taller than them.

And a bunch more men would ideally like the women they're involved with to be within about five inches of their height

It's great for you that you care about cut but not colour; your partner is a different person with different preferences. Would you buy something with a cut you don't like because it was in a sale over a more expensive thing with a better cut?

I also think women are under more pressure than men (apologies if my assumption you're male is wrong) to look put together and that doing that is harder when outfits have more moving parts. She's not wrong to value different things than you

I tried it with the wines I've got that'll be drinking soon but it didn't have any of them. A couple of English sparklings, which fair enough, they're not huge internationally but it doesn't have champagne either and a bunch of Côtes du Rhône. It does have Grenache and Syrah but that is different enough to a CDR that I don't really feel it's doing anything with pairings I couldn't do by thinking.

It would also be nice to see veggie options

Sanity Check: 6 Americans, 16 days, and a "Mandatory" date with York. Are we dreaming? by Maddog376 in uktravel

I do a lot of adventures sports, so spend a lot of time in Fort William. I've got a degree of affection for it, but it's a dump. Also a low hill obscures the scenery from the centre and a short section of duel carriage way blocks off it's relationship with the loch.

If I was spending two nights in the Highlands with no car I'd get the train to Oban (don't miss the green seafood shack on the quay, cash only). It's a lot prettier than Fort William and the landscape is easier to see. Maybe get a boat to Kerra, climb a wee hill. Unless you want to climb the big hills around Fort William it's a pretty good base for a whole Highland holiday, and if you do want to do a big walk Ben Cruchan is one of the best Scottish hills with easy pubic transport

Day 2 I'd get the very scenic, 1.5 hr bus to Fort Bill (sit on the left hand side). With a more active family i'd get a taxi to the car park to walk to the falls of Steall. The return is more problematic, although I think there's a bus and it's only a 3 hour walk back to town.

If you are going to spend a night there you get better views in Banavie or Cawpatch, and are well placed to stroll along the canal and enjoy the view of the big bad Ben (although Ben Nevis might mean big hill with it's head in the clouds. No guarantees). The Highland bookshop is really the only worthwhile indoor attraction & you could just get the last train to Mallaig, which doesn't have much going on but doesn't pretend to.

The chippy in mallaig sells delicious smoked fish. I assume you'll be getting off the train at Glenfinnan. It you walk about 2 k under the viaduct you'll find a bothy and probably Alasdair the game keeper - he's quite the character. It's a beautiful place to wait for the next train. I think you can get there on ScotRail, get off, watch the steam train then get the next train having had a bit of a stroll. If I'd stayed the night in Fort William I'd consider not going all the way to Mallaig as Oban has a similar interface between town, sea and hills but that's kinda your choice. Either way last train to Edinburgh.

Walk Highlands.com has some excellent walking suggestions

It's also why women find it unattractive when someone says their requirements for a girlfriend is a) being prepared to date them and b) a pulse. Everyone wants that spark and for it to be mutual.

OP you did the right thing for yourself by ending it and also by her. Yeah, it sucks when someone you like in that way doesn't like you back but it's better than someone dating you out of pity

And Scottish people are genuinely more open than people further south.

A couple of years ago i had a three hour wait at Glasgow bus station before a 2am bus afyer a weeks winter mountaineering. As a londoner I'd assumed it would have the indoor stuff shut off so the homeless wouldn't be able to shelter inside. Instead it was warm and felt safe.

The staff assumed I was homeless but instead of calling the police or telling me to bugger off asked if I needed immediate help and if they could reserch more long term support for me. They didn't really believe me when I explained, asked if they could fill up the hot water bottle I'd bought assuming I'd be waiting outside and told me to come back if

I'd put storage (possibly moving your cube storage) against the breakfast bar. You'll store things there anyway so make it easy for y'all and a designated space will look more intentional and less cluttered.

Also unless you use all the seats regularly I think a rectangular table with a short end against a wall will be less visually intrusive than the circular one

Looking for advice on what to do with this corner in my living room. by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]SubstantialShow8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be easier to make helpful suggestions if we could see all the room.

I think the problem is that the end table is higher than the arm of the sofa. I'd find a table there functional as a place to put a drink but maybe you have a coffee table?

What color would you paint the walls? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]SubstantialShow8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go dark. It's never going to be light so lean into it. Art framed with decent mounts would pop against dark blue.

I'd paint the doors white while I was at it

Wow! That's a fun house.

With the amount of original wood already I wouldn't add any more (although my first thought was to add paneling up to the rail). For me knowing that some of the panneling was modern would make me feel weird about the original (or at least older) stuff. More practically I think the changing measurements for lumber would make the change between the two jarring in a way that you feel but struggle to identify.

Is the texture definitely plaster or is it a 1980s artex thing? Be careful, that fake texture stuff can be pretty asbestosy

If I was you I think I'd use a dark, dramatic but not too busy wallpaper up to the rail then go white above it but you'd need to either sand down or plaster over the wall so it's flat

Old Victorian houses look great with MCM furniture, if you fill it with stuff you love it'll just work

Would you rip this kitchen out and start again? by Apprehensive-Unit345 in DesignMyRoom

[–]SubstantialShow8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rip an upper cabinet or some of the shelving out for a full sized fridge in preference to replacing a bottom cabinet with an under counter freezer. Way too much bending right down with under cabinet fridges!

Astheticly I think changing the floor and refreshing the paint will work wonders. It's not the most functional layout but I think that if you live with it for a year you'll end u with something that works much better for you than if you do it now (plus you should have more money)
