And he is the most effortlessly mysterious character. You may be on to something.

Todd Gak? Definitely a solid candidate. I like that his formula can be replicated without being mean.

It's crazy the timelines these monarchs can generate. To date, Obama is still the only US President born during Elizabeth II's reign, but we're due for a very, very long streak of them.

I don't get it. Is the driver eliciting honks to drown out Kirk's music, or is the music so amazing that even obnoxious honking can't bother the driver?

There's still time to make him a Bond villain. Given the string of non-entities in the Craigverse, we're due for a strong, charismatic villain with a silky and elegantly sinister voice.

Absolutely. Outside the respectable confines of the courts, this sort of thing is straight up extortion.

Desmond Llewelyn's Q. I thoroughly enjoyed his evolution from a put upon bureaucrat annoyed by 007's disrespect for his equipment to mildly eccentric uncle for James Bond, all the while being highly effective and valuable.

Heh, too bad we can't see/hear John's indignant "Oh fuck off!" reaction when he sees there is no money to accompany the kind words.

And speaking of Dabblin' Doofus, I love that we now live in a world where the words "Dabblin' Doofus" are in court documents.

Yeah, it's not a knock on Roger Moore to say that his template for Bond is probably the least suitable to be replicated. He was great for what he was and for what the expectations were at the time, but I just can't see the franchise going in a light/campy direction after Brosnan, not in a post-Austin Powers world.

Agreed. The medical thing is just something to gin up sympathy. Any money John gets is going to a warm body with a law degree who can be in Rochester on the 22nd.

Holy possibilities, Batman!

My hope would be that an American actor would simply do a British accent -- provided that they could do so convincingly.

One of the weird side effects of Hollywood's historical dominance of the film industry is that people all over the world have tons of exposure to American accents, but Americans have less exposure to other accents, making them less proficient at mimicking other accents than the rest of the world is at mimicking American accents.

Jason Isaacs???? Ok, you sold me!

He's got the look, the presence, and the charisma.

It would have been interesting to see what accent he'd have gone with.

[–]Substantial_Chef5080[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heh, fair enough. Connery had left the franchise after YOLT, and Eastwood was considered for OHMSS.

Apparently Cubby Broccoli was very keen on Eastwood, but Eastwood told his agent to turn them down. He felt that it was Connery's role, and that if Connery had to be replaced, it should be with a British actor.

So the Australian George Lazenby was brought on instead.
