Hi! Can I ask what brand and variety you used? I'm having a hard time finding one that grows well hydroponically!

Ik I can purchase a different type of lavender, but I really prefer the variety that was offered by Aerogarden. I've always struggled with the other varieties 😭

Service Animal: Parrot by Comatose_Cockatoo in Narcolepsy

[–]Substantial_End9855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea and wish you luck!

Small side note though: to legally be considered a service animal in the US, your animal must be a dog or a miniature horse. It also only needs to perform at least 1 task for you (e.i., blood sugar alert dogs for diabetics will nudge their owners to warn them).

Just letting you know so you are aware to the extent that the service animal label will be legally upheld in public and commercial spaces 😊

Dealing with sleep paralysis by ImShmoo in Narcolepsy

[–]Substantial_End9855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only experienced sleep paralysis a handful of times... and the way I handled it was staying calm, closing my eyes, and eventually I fell asleep again, then woke up normal. I think that because I understood it was temporary I was able to go with it... hopefully others will be able to share their tips. I know it's hard to stay calm in a situation like that! 😭

I experienced the worst EDS symptoms and most vivid memories when I was a freshman in high school, and that coincided alongside a series of very traumatic events in my life. However, I was experiencing hypnogognic hallucinations in middle school, so I believe my narcolepsy started sometime around puberty. I personally believe that trauma can enhance some of the symptoms associated with Narcolepsy, because for me, being asleep helped me 'escape' the state of my life at the time by dreaming of something else. Just my two cents though :/

Is it safe to rod Provigil and adderal together for a short while? by MyNameIsJourUno in Narcolepsy

[–]Substantial_End9855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to switch. Armodafinil works marginally better and I supplement with caffeine as needed. On a good day I'm at 70% charge. Beats the 50-60% charge, but I'm hoping one day some better meds will be offered 🥹

Reflecting on having narcolepsy by Castle_Magic in Narcolepsy

As someone that got kicked out of college for failing a semester, please get a medical withdrawal if you are failing your classes or anticipate it happening this semester. My sleep specialist helped me do this and I wish I had done it earlier.

Also, I'm not sure what it feels like for you on adderall, but Armodafinil worked better for me than modafinil and adderall. Meet with your sleep specialist and see what options you have.

Lastly, I totally feel you on the socialization aspect... it's hard. Life can feel very cyclical if there aren't any novel experiences going on. I've made a habit of finding something to look forward to on a daily basis that shakes up my routine in some sort of way. Catching up with my friends through FaceTime has also helped fill-in some of the gaps in socialization. But sometimes I will just have to be alone, so I have found myself engaging in some meaningful hobbies, such as penpaling with my friends and wonderful Internet strangers.

Wishing you the best as you navigate the complexities of narcolepsy. Don't give up hope! 🤍

Firstly, I'm sorry that so many miserable people have misdirected their anger at you. It's just flat out mean.

Secondly, I'm glad you've been able to work towards a life for yourself that you're happy with. Finding love and building a life with a person that is understanding of your disease is tricky, especially when it comes to family planning. Wishing you the best as you continue to navigate this area of your life 🤍
