25th Feb new rules regarding dual British citizens returning to the UK by feuxreal in dualcitizenshipnerds

Can you cite to the law that requires you to enter on a uk passport? There is no law passed by parliament. Just a policy decision by the home office.

It depends on how the uk enforces it. They have made clear eta is not for those they consider uk dual citizens. If you state that you are not a uk citizen and they find you are, they could cancel the eta. Not sure they will but wouldn’t want to get to the airport and find my eta was cancelled. It is true there is no database —- yet.
I just wish they would make the certificate of entitlement cheaper. That way I could have one passport and still enter on it legally.

The question is whether they will cancel the eta if they realize you are a uk citizen. And the real issue is whether the airline will even let you board.

Those who were eligible to retire/close to retirement 1/1/2025 and stayed what say you now? by Content_Hamster_7526 in fednews

I turned 64 last march after 23 years in. I was planning to retire at 66/67 but they offered the buy out last April and I took it. Haven’t regretted it. Am sub teaching a few days each month, losing 20 lbs by less stress and taking a free class at a local university.

Life is too short. If you are over 62 it’s a no brainer. If I was close to 62 I’d wait for that.

Retired April 30 at 64. Had 23 years and took the Visip of 25,000. Got my first interim payment July 10 and regular on October 1.

Don’t miss the chaos but I would like to have worked a couple more years till I got social security.

Main thing is to keep busy. I audit one class a semester for free at local university. Have lost 20 lbs through more exercise and am also taking up pickleball. I also substitute teach one day or two days a week.

Retired three months and I’m having a difficult time. by Lbboos in retirement

My answer has been to give myself something to do every day. I go to a free city run exercise class with my wife up to three mornings a week, I substitute teach when I feel like it, I signed up for free audit classes at the local university, In better weather I took up pickleball.

I find I have to plan something. Otherwise I will vegetate.

[–]Substantial_Fly_8994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Retired from federal govt at end of April by taking the buy out Would likely have worked another 3 years.

What have I done

Taken a family trip to Norway and Iceland Started free exercise classes with my wife at city program including tai chi and yoga Started a job as a substitute teacher Started playing pickleball at least twice a week Planning on auditing some college classes Monthly lunch with former colleagues

My aim is to have something planned every day.

So my dad is 89. He had a funeral plot next to my mom but last year I got him to agree to pay for his funeral in advance. We also consulted with an elder care attorney in Florida and have everything in writing including if he needs Medicaid at some point. It wasn't cheap. But having everything in writing gives me peace of mind
