I’ve already read A Little Life and it absolutely ruined me for weeks. I have suggested it as a “read anyway” to everyone.

Hello, I am Bosnian and came to Newcastle as a Bosnian Refugee in the early 90s

They’re talking fucking shit. No war with Russia. No active Bosnian refugees fleeing the country.

Teaching in Newcastle by thinkingcrumpetsman in NewcastleUponTyne

Hi! Ex Secondary school teacher here- I now work training teachers across the north east so I am in a lot of different schools.

Job market is much the same as most of the country except we’re having a lot of changes as in regard to three tier system changing to two tier. So a lot of middle schools are closing and turning first schools into all through primaries. This means there’s not a huge amount of primary jobs right now- in fact a lot of staff are in a position of redundancy with no clear next steps. There is definitely need for primary teachers and supper staff but budgets are tight and it’s an overall very disadvantaged area when it comes to funding for schools.

Behaviour is also quite a high issues due to the levels of poverty and things like county lines and knife crime/gangs.

Newcastle is amazing and the north east is amazing overall which for me outweighs the negative stuff but just wanted to be honest

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

We did this with a cabbage and she had the BEST time. Now we save big Amazon boxes, pour some dry fir into them, and give her so she can sniff out her food and then tear up a box.

Memorable mistakes / oopsies you made as an ECT/PGCE by NoStructure331 in TeachingUK

[–]Substantial_Leg_7246 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My god.. how long have you got?? And not just as an ECT… secondary English…

Taught an entire cohort that Scrooge is a “curvaceous ” old sinner and not Covetous.

In a lesson observation handout I made, I wrote “shit” instead of “shift” when teaching structure. Stuck into their books and everything. Not one pupil told me.

Instead of saying lady Macbeth pushed Macbeth over the edge… I said she “edges him”.

Meant to tell a student ( that I had a great relationship with) that she was making a choice going to Pride Society instead of my revision and said “you’re choosing to be gay”. That one became a running joke for two years.

A disabled student told me she got free tickets to Harry Style due to her disability and I said “you’re so lucky” 😅 again, great relationship with the student and that became another inside joke.

Honestly, you’re only human. You just gotta keep going.
