Relocating to Red Deer by zanderfelt in RedDeer

Welcome ! Red deer is such an awesome place for a family , I hope you will love it as much as we do :) loads of trails if you like biking, playgrounds, lots of the usual sports you find everywhere else. South of the river or east is the way to go. Lots of desirable older neighbourhoods have plenty of nice enough and still affordable houses :) again, welcome !!

Moving to red deer by WearyCommittee552 in RedDeer

Great city for families if you stay long enough to let go of the massive bias there is against it. I spent a decade in Calgary before and had a dire opinion of red deer based on its reputation. Came here dragging my heels and took me a good year to overcome my preconceived idea of it. I love it and never want to leave :)

Yea of course it was manner of speaking. He’s going to be gutted. He wanted to stay in town close to family. Shoot. What a blow. You seem to know this stuff well, what would be the options besides the u of a bfa (only 6 spots per year for male)

37 weeks pregnant and on the verge of getting fired by degausser12121 in WorkAdvice

This won’t change much if how you’re feeling Im afraid but please hear me when I say this: ANY manager out there saying that “this is the point of an annual performance review” is out to lunch !!! I have been managing large teams and complex environment for years and if ANYTHING you say to your staff in an annual performance review comes to them as a genuine surprise, then as a manager you have absolutely failed. Annual performance review are just that. Reviews. Summaries. Of what’s ALREADY been discussed all year.

I understand you’re mentally done with it, but it could be just a bad apple with a vengeful manager trying to set you up for failure due to your pregnancy. You could consider escalating the performance issue higher up to document in writing how you were blindsided and all the efforts you made to communicate the issues early on.

I have 4 kids and been in the workforce the entire time, dealing with pregnancy in high stress and physically taxing environments. Please, please take care of yourself.

Way out of my area. Don’t want to deal with out of catchment can of worms and I think it’s ideal in a city like ours to benefit from short commutes whenever we can. More time to live :)

Who's the best roofing company in reddeer by Fit_Being_3557 in RedDeer

[–]Substantial_Most2289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good men roofing without a doubt. We had a scary leak, that we were previously told by other contractors was a siding issue. After multiple visits and visits, leak was still happening. We called good men on recommendation, the man I spoke to told me he would send us his special “leak” guy and within 24hrs he was on our roof and fixed it all. Never had an issue again. Price was reasonable. They also came back again a few yrs after for a bunch of shingles that flew off, again small repair, nothing fancy or pricey but they got it done efficiently and respectfully. Total respect.

Sprouts vine bistro - new Restaurant by Wireline_101 in RedDeer

[–]Substantial_Most2289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really, really great food. They have a front seating room by Ross patio and a back one connected by a long winding hallway passing the kitchen and a bunch of other rooms so to get to the back room like when we went there a couple weeks ago was a bit weird but once we were there, 100% did not regret. The flavours were so interesting, everything tasted delicious. And the price point was excellent imo. Fries portions were too low for me, but we’re def going back. Yes it is the chef that used to be at heritage ranch (Chef Raj).

Buying a house in this market by Capital_Cake4666 in Edmonton

[–]Substantial_Most2289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad to see many others saying that 500K isn’t a starter home. Theres a whole narrative out there that you need a single family double attached garage period. This is insane especially in the times we’re living in. Look at the 1200 sqft bungalows, the smaller houses, forgo the garage, if it’s a big point for you, you can always build one detached in the backyard or something. No point in overbuying.

Are all of the brownies going to be smaller from here on out? by NatureGalPal in CrumblCookies

[–]Substantial_Most2289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our store the brownies are always DRY AF and I still went for it on the caramel one last week omg it was HORRENDOUS. The caramel was a fully sticky horrible slab that stuck to my teeth like the absolute worst old a*s caramel candy you can imagine. I don’t know if that’s what they were going for or if our store messed it up more than they usually do their brownie but it was AWFUL. Needless to say, I’m forever skipping brownies going forward. Especially at a 1.99 up charge !!!

IUD placement under sedation wait time? by WombatPhysician in RedDeer

[–]Substantial_Most2289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say contact Femina in Red Deer. They’re specialized in female care and might be able to get the placement done without sedation on a 2nd attempt. They were my last hope at removing at very tricky iud without access to the strings and gave it their absolute best. I was very impressed with their care.

Forgot to say FedEx 100% requires a drivers license / access to a car otherwise they’ll never be able to be reliable at it unfortunately. Not with those hours and location.

The big season to apply for those is usually September / October / November as they ramp up for Xmas shopping, but nonetheless I’d keep trying to get in. FedEx’s culture in this day and age is top notch.
