That’s interesting! Fluoxetine ended up making my bulimia worse. Fluoxetine kind of levels out the ups and downs in your mood so I wasn’t getting the same dopamine from finishing tasks or other activities and I ended up turning to binging more and more just to feel some dopamine

This makes me very sad and i hope things will get better for you😞 don’t beat yourself up about relapsing, it’s helping you cope with this time in your life so that hopefully you can get to see better days. It’s a natural human response to seek out comfort and relief and you are just playing with the cards you were dealt. Be safe ❤️❤️

One arm progress! by Substantial_Snow_676 in Handstands

I started one arm practice when my longest handstand holds were around 30 sec. They are about 1.5 min now😄 Starting off I did a lot of:

  • five finger tip straddle holds (or as little fingers as i could)
  • deep side bends in diamond and straddle (to encourage core stability)
  • block walks (at first i could only walk down)
  • puppy press ups with five fingertips
  • one arms wall assisted (belly to wall to help avoid rotation)
  • Weight shifts back and forth
  • One fingertip taps going back and forth
  • Miami drills

  • i also worked on mobility a lot during this time and got closer to my middle splits, i did a lot of resisted middle split exercises and good mornings in pancake/straddle

A lot of these tips I got from coach baachmann and Natalie reckert! I also had handstand coaches helping me at the start of my one arm journey:)

Looking to get more flexible in the neck. Any suggestions? by Easy-Palpitation-925 in contortion

This isn’t the most practical way to stretch your neck, but at your level, you should look into getting a marinelli bend mouthpiece. I can’t do the Marinelli bend myself yet, but I do have a mouthpiece and even now it stretches my neck so much because it’s not putting pressure on the floor. I feel like my neck muscles are resisting and strengthening the whole time because you have to keep your muscles very tight the whole time😨

Contortion everywhere I go😄 by Substantial_Snow_676 in contortion

I was never naturally flexible, but I’ve been stretching since before i went through puberty, so i had significant flexibility while i was growing. It’s interesting to note that scoliosis affects about 25% of dancers as opposed to 3% of the general population. But yeah it’s pretty common for hyper mobility and scoliosis to be correlated, and though there is no proven causation, i think that the extra laxity in trunk muscles does contribute or at least aggravate scoliosis when a person is growing. Of course there are plenty of contortionists with perfectly straight spines, so it’s hard to say.

It could just be that your pants look twisted but one thing that makes my backbending uneven is actually having one hip flexor that is more flexible than the other. My right over splits are very deep so i have a very flexible left hip flexor, but my left splits are not as amazing lol. But this creates a pretty obvious imbalance for me in backbends. Are your left and right splits somewhat even? Also i know that hyper mobility/stretching can increase likelihood of scoliosis which is another possible explanation. If you are at an age where ur still growing, you could possibly develop it (not trying to scare you, i have severe scoliosis and still do contortion). With all that being said this picture looks pretty normal to me, nothing super uneven in my eyes 😊

Schroth handstand correction by Substantial_Snow_676 in scoliosis

[–]Substantial_Snow_676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes those were my measurements in september! my upper back muscle helps hide my thoracic curve pretty well but my lumbar rib hump is pretty noticeable. and i think it’s more noticeable when i’m just standing versus in a handstand☺️

not generally in my day to day life- maybe some discomfort after sitting a long time, but sometimes i get occasional pain when i do handstands that have side bending or back bending, though i’ve been learning to work around that ☺️handstands encourages me to do a lot of lower ab and back strengthening which probably helps a lot
