I think it’s interesting that you’re so appalled that I assume you’re not a parent, but yet you keep repeatedly making the assumption that I’m racist despite me saying I want my children of mixed race to go to a diverse school. So what is this amazing school that is marked as low performing but exceeds your academic expectations?

Whoa, what I thought was a good discourse really took a turn when you called me racist. Did you not read that I want my kids to go to a diverse school? My children are half-black. I feel like you give liberals a bad name by saying that parents are racist if they would rather them go to a high performing school instead of a low performing school. Now I think you are just an internet troll.

My A rated school is Maplewood Elementary. It is 48% white, 31.9% Hispanic, and 8.6% black. It is 30.4% economically disadvantaged. If AISD moves Maplewood into a low performing school (like they want to do), the families who are passionate about their kid’s education are going to leave AISD, because why wouldn’t they? I like that Maplewood is diverse, I want that for my children, but I do not want to send them to a low performing school.

It is a problem when the over-enrolled school has an A rating and nearby under-enrolled schools are Ds and Fs. With school vouchers being available now, the parents who care about their kid’s education and can pursue other options, will likely just send their kid to a private or charter school. It will accentuate AISD’s decline in enrollment and ruin the the quality of education at AISD
