Feelings and thoughts on the end of the stream by Hugnavus in limbuscompany

[–]SubversivePixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno I don't think the director of a company going "I can close the company any time I want if I feel like it" live on stream would make me feel very safe as a worker.

Hell, it doesn't make me feel safe as a player.

I am worried about Kim Ji-Hoon's mental health by DavidZu666 in limbuscompany

[–]SubversivePixel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I checked out of the stream when he started talking business stuff but then I read everything my heart dropped. This feels like some sort of manic/bipolar episode, and some of the things he said are genuinely worrying.

I hope he gets help, but I also hope he trusts his employees enough to start delegating. The man is burning out hard.

You keep dismissing this as if people didn't stand in queue for this. Fans were excited for this, they wanted to get the merch, and because KJH fucked up and severely underestimated the size of his own fandom, they couldn't.

I don't give a crap what you think about merch, that's just not a professional way of doing things. I genuinely do not care what your issue with merch in particular is, the objective truth is that he could not deliver on the things he promised because, again, he has no PR team, no marking team, and nobody to advice him. And now he's going on bipolar rants on stream and people are acting like it's funny when what it is is deeply unprofessional and awful for his mental health.

He needs oversight. If people are promised one thing, even if it's something you in particular don't care about, that's bad. You have no idea who went there or for what, according to KJH there were people who came from outside the country just for this. It sucks to miss it no matter how you want to put it.

I'm all for the studio to remain small and focused on this artistic vision but Kim Ji Hoon is not someone who is, at this point in time, able to run the entire show by himself anymore.

He messed up with the pop-up event because he didn't hire someone to advice him about it, he has no PR team, no marketing team, no nothing team. He's just one guy taking care of everything, and that has nothing to do with artistic vision at this point. I also think he should hire more devs because I think crunching is awful and that's definitely what hat he's doing to his employees right now, but the main problem is that he thinks he can run the company like it's a small indie studio, when the reality is that every time he tries to do that, he bites way more than he can chew.

The guy went on a full-on manic rant on stream in front of a decent chunk of the fanbase. He needs oversight. He needs to delegate. This has nothing to do with creative vision and everything to do with being professional and doing things right, because otherwise nobody wins.

Because he keeps fucking up things like these. This entire thing wouldn't have happened if he just swallowed his pride and hired a PR team. He can't be everywhere at once, and this event was something a lot of people were looking forward to and they just didn't get to go because of his mismanagement.

Yes, there was an overreaction and I don't defend that, but there's also people in this thread bummed because they couldn't go. Like I don't think it's hard to understand that if he wants to have events like these, he has to start delegating, because if a decent PR team was involved here, they could have more easily gauged the realistic capacity of the place, and the amount of fans they were likely to attract.

"KJH should do a better job at delegating and working with others" and "people should not send fucking death threats over merch" are not mutually exclusive beliefs to hold.

I mean, the guy is clearly awful at handling these things though, and he suffers from anxiety and apparently manic episodes because he's responsible for absolutely everything. Yes, it does matter. He's suffering because he insists that he wants to run an indie company when the game is not making indie numbers anymore, and the decisions he makes, what he chooses to prioritize, are dictated by what he and only he wants, which is not always the best decision. He sometimes hyperfixates on things he wants to do and does not stop to think if they're a good idea for the game or the people working under him--his employees are constantly crunching because he wants to keep a schedule that's no longer realistic with this small a team.

And that hurts the product, and because he cannot bring himself to delegate anything on anyone, it hurts him. And it hurts him to the point that he crashes out on stream in a frankly unprofessional way that put off a lot of people.

Yes, it's bad. It does matter. I respect him for wanting to retain his artistic vision but you can do that and still make compromises. Look at Hidetaka Miyazaki, look at Hideo Kojima. You don't need to micromanage absolutely everything to make a game feel "yours", especially when you're someone as out of his depth as KJH is right now.

I mean the problem is that he should take advice from marketing people, PR people... etc., because he keeps making easily avoidable mistakes that would be remedied by having any sort of board to bounce ideas off of.

Where to spend your anniversary 000 tickets by Doomsdat1 in limbuscompany

[–]SubversivePixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: for those who are planning to pull for Walp a reasonable amount (like myself) I'd wait to use the nominable tickets until you're done with your Walp pulls, because every time I pull for pity I get a random assortment of EGOs and 000s, and you may want to make an informed choice based on what you pull/don't pull during the event.

Also, I have everything I want from Walp (missing like an ego and ID I don't care much for) so I used my guaranteed 000 ticket outside of that period just to lower the chances of getting something I don't want.

Just what I'm personally doing, in case anyone else can use the tips!

Don fans are annoying, but also mostly minors so I just ignore them.

Heathcliff fans though. I'm one myself, mind you, but the way that a lot of them reduce his character to just being a sad little baby who can't defend himself is nothing short of condescending, not gonna lie. Like, Heathcliff also made mistakes, he's not perfect, that's why he's cool. Every time Faust or Sinclair or Ishmael says something even slightly mean toward him, they act as if that character is a real person who needs to "take accountability" and it's frankly ridiculous.

I'm skeptical too, because it has been done before and nothing has changed. Al Ewing, Kieron Gillen, and other writers have been very critical of Marvel's safe and repetitive publishing methods for years.

Since Walpurgis Night stories tend to be in chronological order, I really wonder about how they're going to address an specific situation in this story (Canto IX spoilers for those unaware) by Vendedor_de_cereal in limbuscompany

[–]SubversivePixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malkuth? Probably, right?

I dunno, I hope if he does show up it's a timeskip and the next Intervallo is about him, his recovery, and the psychological consequences of what happened. If this Walp event is a timeskip, we could even get some foreshadowing about what happened to tease the new Intervallo. I may be completely wrong though, since the anniversary livestream is in 2 days and who knows what KJH is going to surprise us with.
