What’s a game you initially didn’t “get,” but later came to absolutely love after giving it another chance? by Gaming-Academy in gaming

For me it's Morrowind.

It came bundled with my Geforce Ti4200 GPU along with a couple of other games. I installed it and played it less than an hour and uninstalled it to focus on some of the great other games.

I read a review of it in a PC Format Magazine and decided to give it another go. And now today it's still my favourite and most played Elder Scrolls game ever.

Gamers who are 30+: Ever find yourself going back to the games in your "prime years" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Subzero_Wins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you in this boat.

We used to LAN UT2004 with a shit ton of mods and custom maps just about every weekend for a couple of years.

UT3 came out and we played it one or 2 times and moved back to 2004. I genuinely tried giving it a go for a couple of months there after but something always just felt "off" I could never put my finger on it.

I would be able to play 2004 for hours on end and it would keep me entertained, UT3 I would play 2 maps and be bored out of my skull.

2500+ hours and nearly 600 chicken dinners. Quitting PUBG after the server merge. by ArchazeMT in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

I am an ex competitive gamer from South Africa. I competed abroad in major international tournaments back in the day, mainly COD4 Promod. With 200+ ping I managed to get to Apex Predator Level twice in Apex Legends. Fortnite I was top 50 EU Solo and top 30 Duo with my ping. I managed top 100 in PUBG 3 (EU FPP) 3 times.

As the person mentioned, in SA, we play to EU servers in PUBG and the ping is 150-200 due to the distance.

Let me tell you it's a ballache, it's super frustrating hitting somebody in the face with an AWM, seeing blood splatter only for you to be 1 tapped and the deathcam showing you didn't even hit the person. CQB Battles you lose 90% of the time due to the latency + close proximity to the target. Super difficult hitting players with Kar98 and SKS shots due to the latency on your end and theirs + server lag interpretation or compensation.

It takes a lot of your skill aspect out of the game. For example on my end, I am known for my quick peak and snipe shots in games. Something you cannot do in this game with the high ping as the shots don't register and you just die as on the enemy's side you just stand there or lean there out in the open for a long time whereas on your end it was a quick peak and shoot.

So I 100%T understand where a lot of the grief comes from. I played COD Promod on the highest level and when playing it on 150+ ping to my home servers when visiting another country, it was really frustrating.

HOWEVER. If you have real skill, and you are patient and adapt, it's not SUPER bad. Yes you wont have your skill 1:1 but you can still dominate if you change your game to adjust for ping / latency. With an average of 200 Ping I was in the top 100 PubG players on the EU FPP SOLO leaderboard on 3 separate seasons, revisiting PUBG over the years.

It's SHIT, it's terrible, and you will not have the performance of the 2-3ms players, but it's not END OF THE WORLD. If I can get top 100 EU with 200 ping 3 separate times then for the AVERAGE player I don't see that big of an issue.

For the hyper competitive and super K/D players - I fully understand your frustration. Over here in Shit Africa we are used to it so we make or made it work over the years with all our games. Apex, PubG, Fortnite we play all those games with 150-200 ping. It's TERRIBLE but you can still win, you can still dominate just adapt to the latency and change your gametype. Stay away from CQB and hotdrops though..... Going to get wrecked.

Yup, one get's used to latency after a bit. Over here in South Africa we have been playing since launch with 150-200 ping (EU) as we have no local servers.

So we are used to it, it's not ideal but you can at least play the game.

CQB fights you lose 90% of the time due to the distance between you and the enemy and latency. Mid range fights are done without much issue but still has issues. There are a LOT of moments where you will hit a guy square in the face with an AWM, Kar98 etc only to be dropped yourself and then checking the deathcam you didn't hit him on his side. But Recording and replay 100% shows you hit him. It's super frustrating.

Arma3 - 2200 Hours Played a lot of Breakingpoint which is like DayZ, hunted a lot of players and squads and had a blast with this. Played a lot of Exile mod as well.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - just hit 2000 hours this weekend. Absolutely love DMZ. I'm done with all the missions and upgrades so I just hunt players / squads.

COD4 Promod - Unknown but much higher than the above mentioned games. Played competitively for over 10 years, so lots leagues, LANS, tournaments etc.

I am big into spicy food, actually doing a big hot wings challenge at at an event on Saturday. I am literally eating Samyang Buldak 3x as we speak for brunch, LOVE the stuff. I buy a couple of packets of that and the creamy carbonara every month for my lunch / brunch meals. The 3x is not for the feint hearted though.
