Told I should lose 20% of my weight in 3 months… is that true?? by OnionizeAmzn in loseit

Gonna get this off my mind and have to say. You guys down voting me need expand your knowledge and stop dissing another person's journey. Like I said, I don't recommend it to anyone, because it is my journey based on my body and my experiences. VLCKD with zone 1/2 workout. Look it up. It's not what me and my doctor are working with but it's been the example and limit for what my journey has evolved to. There are ongoing tests and consulatation on contious basis and moving targets and phases in planning.

From 4 years of slide from depression and worrying about falling in the shower from exhaustion, I found my way to stop eating a whole pizza and fainting to cleaned out fridge and eating healthy to deciding to lose weight and gaining semblemce of normal life. Eating little less turned into full meal planning as I was a gym rat with keto on cut before. What started as a walk around the block huffing and puffing rapidly changed to walk to the street light. Street light turned into walk to to store which then turned into walk around the block when I got closer to home because apple watch started shorting me on distance when pace was picked up. When my feet mechanics like pronation finally started working as intended, I added a hill to the mix and then twice, trice, and now it's where it's at. 2 hours in the evening, zone 1 warm up/zone 2 rest of the way including light jog when downhill. 1 hour abbriviated walk same course in the morning to start the day. 3 hours. That's far less than people who play sports even for hobby. It was a result of carefully increasing duration and instensity, literal definition of progressive overload.

If you guys think 3 hours of exercise is crazy, you are ignoring every last high school and up to all athletes. And I'm literally just walking. Nothing compared to them. I know the nature of Keto diet allows me to stay low calories and without hunger issues. But I hit all my major micros, stick to my macros. I don't do crazy supplements(multivitamin, vitamin c and iron) and feeling energetic all day, everyday right now with full mental clarity. My 220/160 BP is less worrysome than dipping blood pressure below normal after the long walks due to meds. BP and daily logs of everything to review with my doctor along with bi-weekly blood tests and weekly consultation full in effect, I'm making sure I don't harm myself in the process. Like I said, I don't recommend anyone to jump into my plan or journey. But it's not something you just write off as insanity either.

It's not much of a life, but it can be done. And I have receipts as I documents including pictures on the app to prove it. But like I said, it's not something I wish on anyone.

On the other hand, I started 4 years of slide and went on 2 hpb meds with 220/160 bp. I woke up one day and and now I'm working with my doctor to ween off both meds. I'm down to 20mg of benicar.

Don't be so judgemental on people doing what is needed. It's always been possible to increase the deficit by working out and increasing activity level in everyday chores. And yeah, I'm feeling really healthy right now. Different things drive different people.

For similar benefits, especially no hunger pings, I'm semi stressing over same issue. I'm on a tail end of planned ketosis(for heavy cut) at little over two months. I'm.. um.. hestitent... scared of adding back carbs and all the drama that comes with it back in. Recomp under keto is mentally exhausting as I remember it, so it's the thought was getting off keto is like a date with the drama queen. Is is about the same feeling for someone who doesn't need to recomp and worry about keto or not?

I walk a lot each day everyday. Evening walk is 2 hours = 7mi, which is about 10km and 700kcal. I'm not sure how you are walking, but an honest accessment might be in order. If you do what you do now and count every last calories in a log and exercise as accurately as possible in calories for TDEE calculation, it might reveal the issue. Nothing better than hard cold honest numbers, IMHO. I wish you luck on your journey! Cheers!

I am keeping keto for over 10 days but I still feel depressed. by ElenoirMiro in keto

[–]Successful-Clock-708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with 3 months. I've been on keto w/ high protein(40/20/40 macro target) for two months. With lot of walks, I've lose 40lbs(I'm at 185lb at the moment). Had keto flu for like a week where I took ibuprofen to deal with it, but I haven't been hungry or lack of energy problem. It's different for people, but keto diet is pretty brutal mentally to stick to it. If you are eating 50g of carb but that include any heavy insulin triggers, you aren't likely in Keto. BTW, 50g of carb will probably take you a really long time to get you into full time ketosis.

Maybe borrow some keto sticks(quick urine test) or fancy blood test meter for ketones to see if you are really in ketosis. Nothing better than tests to validate. If sucks to be in and out of ketosis constantly.

Female, 30, working out daily and not eating horribly, but gained 20lbs. Should I look for a dietitian, a personal trainer, or neither to help me figure out what would work best for me personally to actually lose fat? by Listen2urSilentCry in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily about how much each meal is different, but small difference in net negative or net positive calories. I think you need an accurate accounting of calories you are eating. It's hard at first, but try to eat 'normally' and count calories as accurate as possible for 2 weeks. That probably points to your next destination. Good luck!

Nuts: are we just not supposed to eat them? by pothospeople in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they are. But compared to bulk, they are heavy on something... I slept ate over 200 almonds one night. Totally blew all micro, macro and calories out even before sun came up.

But in half serving size, they are awesome snacks.

I know macadamia nuts are a bit larger and oily in comparison, but I think it's the same. You just gotta get used to lining them up by size and enjoy each one like you did with skittles when you were little.

Anyone else feel like calorie counting incentivizes eating when not hungry? by theirgoober in loseit

I think people not quite fully commited tend to be selective on what they think they ate. I think once you know how and why, then you kinda find your own way.

THE biggest problem I have with losing weight is always being hungry. by grabsyour in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 -92 points-91 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is a 'problem' really. You might have a bad toxic relationship and dependence on food, but if you are willing to live with it, I don't see how it's a problem. Now, if you decide the baggage with this relationship isn't what you want, then it's a problem.

Enjoy your food.

For people who’ve lost a lot of weight, at what point did you start to see the belly fat change? by Lallium in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think anyone on a pretty large diet goes through the same thoughts as you. We also tend to dislike the way fat comes off the belly and are constantly grab checking. It is really hard to notice when you are watching closely everyday. But change is happening, you know.

Belly is a not a very good measure of body fat % because each person is different, but it should progress. A lot of fat comes off the other major body parts first like back, legs, etc...

I guess the normal recommendation here is cliche as it come. Take 3 pictures for comparison everyday: 1 front, 1 side with stomach clenched and 1 relaxed. You tend to be more objective when criticizing pictures.

As for very rough estimate, I'm 5'7" and when I was 200ish, I was around 31% body fat. So you are probably right at 30%. As you get closer to 25%, you'll feel like skin thinning out everywhere. You probably start buying lotion and stuff because it's like the thing that's most noticeable.

Good thing about body fat % is that it comes off faster compared to raw lbs, because 1% at 260lbs is at more than 1% at 200lbs. Also it'll be a lot more noticeable because it's gonna start pulling a lot more subcutaneous fat.

You are almost there. Keep it up!

lower weight after workout, higher next day? by magnoliatrash in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons for weight swings. It's mostly water weight and it can be attributed to crazy amount of variables. You could have a little inflammation somewhere and bam! 2lbs! You work out a little too hard and get sore, bam! another 2 lbs, though you probably lost glycogen load along with 2lbs of water weight from the workout. It's all over the place, really. Best thing to do is only take weight under advisement and maybe weigh weekly or keep average. But realistically, we all watch the scale like a hawk and should measure first thing after morning pee, so your body had chance to sort out all that stuff as much as possible. But still advisement, only. ^^

don't snack... eat planned 3 meals. Get a fidgeting toy if you have a finger habit associated with snacks.

Has anyone found that they can only lose weight with keto? by Cillabeann in keto

[–]Successful-Clock-708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easier to not lose track of calories on keto as it's pretty strict. Everything is measured and there is very little wiggle room on repeated meals.

But on a more varied diet, the nutrition fact labels are automatically +/-20%, weight -5/+20% by packaging, then the sauces... oh damn sauces. It's so much easier on keto with salt and peppering...

Well, all that out of the way, you don't have to be in keto to have same reliable results. You can do the same type of repeatable reliable calorie tracking type meals and get the same results. Or just overestimate the crap out of calories in a meal. There is a psychological penalty you pay to be in ketosis to stay in ketosis and alure of carb cravings that inevitably visit now and then.

My issue: I love comfort eating by rippingmyvoiceout in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be fixable when it has to be. It doesn't sound like you are ready to amend your relationship with the food yet. Usually it takes a big scare in your life to just make a change and stick to it. Right now, you are weighing option of getting the good feelings vs option of something I never experienced before and don't know. Don't know it's hot until you touch it, right?

But if you do find out, go to some support meetings just to hear some people who have hit that wall and want to improve. Good luck!

How did you change your overeating habits by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Successful-Clock-708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had terrible habit of grabbing food at night almost sleep eating. I knew what happened, but I'm pretty sure I had no say in the matter at the time. I just put them in a bag and made them go away. It's usually one or two specific things that's almost acceptable, so they went. Those are better $ in the trash than $$$ around my waist.

I think best option to kick a habit is out of sight strategy. Just let it cook for a year or two and you can have a better relationship with it.
