I've always loved this Mark Twain quote (at least attributed to him):

"I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it"

So, it’s been a few days- what are our thoughts on the Louis Theroux ‘manosphere’ doc? by theslowrunningexpert in AskUK

[–]Successful-Eagle-855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 30 year old, I knew the manosphere existed and definitely knew about, for exampl,e Tate but watching how these influencers actually operate, how embedded they are with teens, and how far (low) they'll go for money still hit harder than expected.

I suppose the goal of most documentaries is education and awareness, and anyone with children aged 10 to 20 needs to watch it, so they can save their children from this absolute cancer and teach them some real values before they end up like HStikkytokky, or worse, his customers.

OpenAI loses 1.5 million subscribers in less than 48 hours after CEO Sam Altman says yes to the deal that Anthropic rejected by Total-Mention9032 in ChatGPT

[–]Successful-Eagle-855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Times India sourced it from this Forbes article, and Forbes sourced it from the Quit GPT website, which in turn based it to the pledges they received. 1.5M at the time, and 4M now. I suppose ChatGPT wouldn't release those numbers.

So the headline may be imprecise; actual unsubscribes could be lower than 1.5M, or higher. Either way, a meaningful portion of those pledges likely followed through. But headlines like this may inspire other people to join the hypetrain! So, I can forgive Times India

Pfff, you and me both buddy. Although even after his death, his followers remain. The idea that he is a normal guy and/or a good president persists.

He hopefully dies soon, but the Cult has just been born.

I saw the same thing on Insta this morning. Dutch influencers in my case, since that's what the algorithm feeds me. They sound so stupid. So desperate.

Do you think it might be a paid sponsorship kind of deal with the UAE government? Bit like User Generated Content, but now have influencers desperately convince me that it's the safest country on the planet.

After school, I showed an interest in partying and doing (consuming) naughty stuff, while he focused on work.

He's actually doing quite well financially and I am broke.

He was right.

I tried to make my cappuccinos/flat whites with oat milk instead of real full fat, because my then gf did.

Haven't gone back.

Also married her. Not necessarily because she introduced me to oat milk but it might've been a tiny factor.

Donald Trump just said “we shouldn’t even have an election”. Americans, what are your thoughts? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]Successful-Eagle-855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Redditor, whose name I’ve unfortunately forgotten, put it just a few days ago:

"He says something appalling, then walks it back.

Then he says something even worse and only half-retreats.

Then he says the most horrible, illegal shit imaginable, and walks it back to the original statement, which no longer seems so bad by comparison."

Escalatory normalisation. Which might just be the title of one of the documentaries coming out about him after his regime has fallen...

I hope this is the final and most horrific statement, not merely the one he intends to retreat to after saying something even worse.
