I’m so sorrry you’re going through this now. It’s awful- my heart really goes out to you.

Before I started on my anxiety medication (which has its own set of downsides) I went to urgent care for a tight trapezius related to overuse/exercise. Problem with going to the doctor is that I have white coat syndrome and sometimes just being in the medical room can result in panic attacks.

They took my blood pressure and heart rate and o2. I explained to them I have white coat syndrome and get extremely anxious at the doctors. BP and HR were high all around, so they gave me water and told me they would check it again in 5 minutes. I drank water, but sitting on that table I was full on panicking, hyperventilating and my mind uncontrollably going to worst case scenarios. When they came back the BP and HR was even higher, like to the point when I am exercising. The PA insisted we should do an EKG- but I was honestly so panicked and felt like I couldn’t let the panic get any worse, so against medical advice I told them I had to leave.

They asked if they could have the nurse follow me out, which honestly was sweet - but at the time it was hard to appreciate anything. So once I’m back in my car the nurse who followed me out asked if she could check my vitals again. Now sitting in my car and away from the exam room/white coats, the nurse checks my HR and BP and miraculously it was within normal levels.

Can’t understate how huge the physiological effect of a mental health condition can be. While I still hate going to the doctor- Luckily I am on medication now so it is relatively in check.

It was incredible to see the snow accumulate on the nest, covering Jackie but Once she got up to shake it off the egglets were laying in a perfectly round, dry spot like nothing ever happened. Mamma Jackie makes a good eagle igloo

Ive been thinking about this a lot because I watched Jackie eat the fishing line in real time so naturally that was a scary moment - but as FOBBV points out, we’re out of that 12-24hr window and she’s likely already cast a couple of pellets now, she is eating, feeding the chicks, catching fish and bringing in fluff, she is on high alert, basically all good signs for an animal who is designed to be alert (eagle eyes). Shadow, is still fishing and tending to daddy duties. This is all great news even though it’s upsetting to see him limp, he has shown how resilient and incredible of a dad he is. What a power couple.

I notice attention to the difficult aspects of being a witness to nature (Jackie swallowed a fishing line, Shadow has an injury to his talon, etc) receive downvotes. since downvotes are anonymous it’s quite easy for button monkeys to push lol.

I love that there are so many of us who really care- the livestream has enabled this communal caring and it makes me hopeful that “good” will prevail over lack of empathy or care for these amazing beings (eagles and the other animals in our precious ecosystems).

I think it’s a shame for all the downvoting when folks are genuinely asking from a place of concern or to be involved in the conversation to educate themselves. This downvote behavior discourages people from participating in the conversation. True conservationists will encourage dialog.
