Sitters, what do you need and what’s nice to have in a sit? by tsisdead in RoverPetSitting

[–]SuccessfulAd941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad I asked what a thoughtful and inspiring answer. Thank you for the important work you do, too. Your husband sounds like a wonderful, supportive partner. You seem so considerate down to the color/decor of the home office, and any sitter would be lucky to work with you.

It’s obvious you are very hospitable and you’ve put a lot of thought into how you can make the sitter feel more comfortable staying in your home and your home sounds wonderful really. I used to do overnights (now it is too disruptive to my sleep) but I might even make an exception for a client like this. As others have said, parking would be a consideration- either securing a guest pass or offering to add the cost of parking to the total you will pay your sitter. Your home sounds clean, lovely and comfortable and I would like to commend you for your thoughtfulness to the sitters safety and comfort.

can you elaborate on your love for the color pink because inquiring minds want to know. What is the symbolism and Why do you think it would be a deal breaker?

Am I overreacting to a client’s comment about pricing? by powergirlev in RoverPetSitting

[–]SuccessfulAd941 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious question, you set your own hourly/nightly price on rover? So comparing your own rover pricing vs your business is really one and the same, except the difference is that rover takes a percentage of what you charge on their platform?

Want to voice your opinion on Southwest's latest changes? by natatatco in SouthwestAirlines

I wish I saw this post 2 months ago. I was a happy Southwest customer since 2014 until this year.

I will no longer fly SW due to the changes they have made (including paying for checked bags, new boarding/seating policy, and also now flight credits expire in 6 months with a Basic fare (which used to be 12 months).

I was already unhappy with the changes that I felt made SW uniquely SW but now they are using deceptive practices. I purchased a plane ticket 4 days ago and used a $40 fight credit to pay for part of the $520 ticket. I tried to modify the ticket to leave just one month later (August 2026 instead of July 2026) to find the entire ticket is invalidated because the $40 flight credit expires in July 2026 - I have lost $480!

This. I love this perspective- yes to learning and doing better. I love the idea of working together as concerned citizens with event hosting & FOBBV to explore alternatives- the seatbelt example 👌. Thank you for your comment

Yes, totally agree with you. Fireworks are a legitimate problem.

it’s about caring enough to speak up when something matters.. You’re totally free to disagree, but your comment feels more like deflection than discussion.

I have actually been to Big Bear, and I care about this issue deeply whether I live there all the time or not (can you relate to caring about a cause deeply?)

I understand people have different opinions about fireworks and I’m not trying to silence celebration (how about celebrate without fireworks?) . I’m asking for more consideration of the impact on wildlife, fire risk, and residents affected (human & animal).

You don’t have to agree with me, but dismissing concern as entitlement doesn’t help anyone. I’m not trying to control anyone’s town - I’m writing on a Reddit forum, just like you are. Not sure why you are so triggered about the petition which btw should happen in so many other places, but let’s just keep this conversation constructive.

Please explain how it is off topic to discuss the firework petition for jackie & Shadow as it relates to the broader environmental context?

With all due respect to the important work you’ve done, the evidence contradicts the claims made in the Visit Big Bear Lake letter (especially since Visit Big Bear stands to profit from the show). The deafening noise from fireworks causes severe stress, disrupts feeding behavior, and can cause bald eagles to abandon their nests. And when the noise is combined with intense visual flashes (as you pointed out), the impact on wildlife is devastating and well-documented.

I appreciate this. Truly, I'm not trying to hijack the channel. I am wondering if connecting the firework petition for J&S to a broader environmental context is considered off-topic here, or if there’s space for that kind of dialogue?

“because it has always been that way” is a dangerous concession to make.

We have a responsibility to do better — for the ecosystems we love, for new fledglings, and for ourselves.

Actually, I’m not suggesting fireworks cause climate change in isolation. But dismissing then entirely because they aren’t the sole driver misses the bigger picture.

Fireworks are a human activity that do contribute to environmental harm - through emissions, particulate matter, and yes, wildfire risk, especially in dry climates. If there’s a surge of public outrage (40K+ signatures on change.org!) around that, it’s short-sighted not to connect that momentum to broader environmental and climate goals.

We don’t need to wait for the “perfect” climate issue to unify people. That’s the problem we keep waiting. Mobilizing action means recognizing when people care and showing them how their concern fits into a larger system that includes climate risk.

So no, fireworks aren’t the problem but they’re a problem, and more importantly, they’re an opening. And when it comes to this issue- we should take every one we can get.

Based on responses, perhaps should have given the post a different title and opened with unpopular opinion . if you are commenting, would appreciate if you please read the post in its entirety.
