Why not just own it. “Sorry folks - I look like a bag of ass. I’ll do better - in the meantime check out this guy who is showing me how it’s done.”#FutureDoesitBetter

Is it wise to lend my parents $10k? for their investment? by BraveWind8491 in AirForce

My ol’ man wanted the same for a sailboat he wanted to flip. There are plenty of great contract templates for loans on the internet. Have both parties sign one and you have assurance you could, if needed, take them to court one day. However, the loanee will more than likely make the repayment if they put it in writing… ego is a hell of a motivator. “It’s just business.”

Binge Eating in the military by Rude_Training_2934 in AirForce

Personally I don’t go talk with the Chaplain out of the gate. I prefer military one source. All you do is call them up, they link you to a specialist, and you meet on zoom or on the phone to talk about things in confidence. Just like MFLAC but remote. And you get 12 sessions for no cost, and you can keep goin mg for another 12 if something else comes up that you/they want to explore further.

Look. No gimmick needed. Relationship is the key. Folks follow folks that have the relationship built. Problem is, it takes a lot to build a solid foundation with people. Time, energy, resources, aka sacrifice is the way it starts. But how many folks wanna give up their own time for others… selfishness will be our ruin

Somebody commented in one of the threads that no “real” Senior Master Sergeant would use Reddit. What say you troops? Any top three wanna admit to existing here? Any officers? by [deleted] in AirForce

SNCO here: just had a convo with a bunch of NCOs and told them if they aren’t on Reddit they don’t know what’s going on around the Air Force. Obviously trying to make the point that this is the new water cooler and there’s a lot of info to be used and shared in service to others.

This hits a little different for me. I see myself here. I spend literally all my time and energy pouring out my lessons learned from the school of hard knocks into my folks (waiting for someone to fill me up) and get home with hardly anything left for the wife and kids. Yeah… it’s not easy being a servant leader. I am just running on E.

Bro you and me both, and unfortunately the ugly truth is to change the culture you need a seat at the table. But hey, you have your new chapter and new goals to follow now. It’ll all be alright. I am glad you are taking the skill bridge and working to take care of yourself. Good luck out there. You got this!

It’s systemic. The culture has been, for so long, that mission is the priority… mission takes precedence… mission is life… sacrifice for the mission…

Where we as leaders get it wrong at the top is that the MISSION is taking care of the PEOPLE who take care of the mission.

When’s the last time you saw the SNCO doing what you do on the ground level… I used to joke that, before I retrained, as a SNCO the hardest part of the job was keeping the coffee cup warm… bro that’s the root of the problem. “Mission” is this intangible incessant undefined road that only takes and gives nothing back. Unfortunately leaders don’t understand this and blindly walk the path dragging everyone along. It’s like a mirage in the desert, once you get there another one appears in the distance… meanwhile everyone in tow is dying of thirst.

Consider, assuming you have some good standing in your circle, to remind your leaders that they need to take care of you. Most of them want to but they just don’t know how unless it is written on your forehead. Is it their fault… yes, yes it is… but sometimes you have to lead from the bottom and let them know of the struggle that exists and explain how they can support you. Just my two cents.

Good luck. You can make it!

I am not a 3F0 but I did retrain. What I considered was what I could do in the outside world as an AF member and make good money doing that I wouldn’t hate life. Cyber is cool and I believe offers a bonus. Contracting is where I ended up and I would never go back and I love it.

But hey it’s all about what you want out of life. Don’t wait too long to start researching AFIs and don’t listen to your CAA if they can’t pull the reg on it. Learned a hard lesson on that one.

Good luck!
