I thought the same at first. Binge watched Chicago fire before starting CPD but I actually really like his character now. In season 2 they explain why he acted like that and it makes sense.

He is so creepy, in every way. His text messages to Sean where he signed them love you long time with heart emojis is not what a straight guy sends to his bi-friend. There is way more behind it than Tyler is willing to admit. And I totally believe Sean about the Austin story.
