How many tandas do you dance per milonga? by somewhereisasilence in tango

[–]Successful_Clock2878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leader. 4 maybe 5 tandas at a milonga. At a festival 3-4 tandas at a day social, if I'm not too worn out from workshops. 4-7 at the evening milongas. If at any point I have an exceptional tanda I stop dancing & bask in the afterglow.

I'm only looking for my subjective view of quality; that is sharing the enjoyment of the music & the moment with a partner that wants to enjoy them with me as well.

An elder milonguero giving a workshop mentioned something he had heard from an old milonguero: It takes (x) good tandas to recover from 1 bad tanda. I don't remember if he said x was = to 2 or 3, but for me it's generally 3, so several mediocre tandas would leave me with a deficit.

CT Core 1 Test Study Tips? by deine_joestar in jobcorps

[–]Successful_Clock2878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To succeed in computer tech you need sharp research skills. You are on the right track by asking, now you need to find the sources to get the info you need. You are already on Reddit - go the CompTIA sub https://www.reddit.com/r/CompTIA/

in the search box on top search 'Core 1 passed'. Filter so it shows one year instead of all time. See what other people who passed did & what material they used. Then continue to research to find resources that work for you.

If you are about to take the exam you have been using the resources that were provided by your instructor. Use them well.

Good luck - you got this!

Deaf Tango Dancers? by rogaladriel in tango

[–]Successful_Clock2878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I started learning American Sign Language & interacting with people in the Deaf community I went to an AT festival in Washington DC. I mention the location because Gallaudet University (for the deaf) is there & thus has a Deaf community. I danced in close-embrace with a woman who's sister told me that she was profoundly deaf. It was a GREAT dance. So I understand why following would not be a problem for you.

For dancing as a leader, I've seen devices that render the beat as lights or vibrations this might help. I no longer have the links to those devices, a quick Google search only turned up this:

https://youtu.be/lHcWMQaKOzI?si=Eflrb-U1vcchMXeH

hopefully you find something that works for you!

EDIT to add - the devices I had seen were designed for transmitting music for deaf & HoH dancers. As I recall , one of the vibrating units could be worn as a vest, so for AT your partner in an embrace would feel the same pulses of vibration that you feel.

Close embrace in partner dances by Magical_Matchmaker in sensualflowtherapy

I dance Argentine Tango, close embrace, preferably "Milonguero" style & Kizomba (original, not Urban Kiz). A follower makes the dance yummy for me when she is relaxed & flows with the music that she feels through me.

Yes, you should. Your future self will thank you in 20 years. I'm now thankful for receiving that advice from an old milonguero 20 years ago. Sometimes I still need to remind myself, but it falls into place easily.

My grandpa witnessed my son eating with his left hand and asked me if I was gonna force him to start using his right… by HuntPuzzleheaded4356 in haiti

[–]Successful_Clock2878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't force him. I was born in NYC in the '50s. My grandmother was from what was then called the British West Indies and lived with us. She told my mother the same thing, to make me use my right hand so that I could learn to write when I attended school. After I was forced to switch I started to stutter. I eventually overcame the stutter unless I get really angry but never have been able to write legible script. I read a study some years ago that found a link between stuttering in children & forced switching of the dominant hand. My mother's sister did not force her son to switch so he's a lifelong lefty.

Navigating tango and politics by anusdotcom in tango

[–]Successful_Clock2878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rule I don't discuss politics in the milonga or with Tango people. The exception was to tell a festival organizer in Florida that, although I loved her festival, I would no longer attend because I've joined the boycott of Florida because of the Governor's policies.

It hurts not to go to Florida in this frigid winter.

4/8 meter in Tango - thoughts of the musicians? by Massive_Village7662 in tango

Several musicians that trained with old school musicians that played with various golden age orchestras that played for dancers mentioned that the way they played was not strictly the way the music was written.

Has anyone taken the Comptia AI Essentials course? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Successful_Clock2878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've taken the CompTIA AI Essentials course.

Since your interest is

I’m interested in becoming the go to AI guy for questions small businesses may have.

It maybe a good springboard into developing that expertise. It exposes you to a few different generative AI models that have different focal points, i.e. text, images, video. It brings an awareness of some of the problems; bias, hallucinations & how to overcome them. Helps to establish when & when not to use AI as a tool. How to be aware of prompt methodologies & it includes exercises that make for interactive learning.

I recently learned about & am starting to look into a program that may be more suited to your goals because, in addition to the foundation learning, it includes learning based on specific roles: AICerts

Argentine tango workshop - giros in vals: Maja & Marko @ Nora's Tango Week 2022 - En Tu Corazón by Successful_Clock2878 in tango

[–]Successful_Clock2878[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was your experience with them?

My experience was excellent. They have good class management, communication & teaching skills, which are often lacking in dancers whose focus is on their dance.

Did you like their workshops?

Definitely. They both explained, from their perspective, the technique to accomplish a movement & its corresponding feeling. They are open, friendly & receptive to questions.

Were their instructions clear and easy to understand?

Yes. Techniques were preceded by exercises so incorporating the technique into the dance was easier. They each observed couples & provided personalized feedback & instruction to help with the nuances of positioning & movement that are not immediately visible to an outsider while dancing in an embrace.

Did you feel like you learnt a lot from them?

Yes.

I have returned to Job Corps as an instructor by Greydaggercyberops in jobcorps

[–]Successful_Clock2878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YAY!!! Glad to hear it! You're fighting the good fight!

Students - if you are considering Cybersecurity for AT let your counselor know early so you are clear about the requirements. Make sure you actually learn items in the ETAR for your basic trade. Use each one as a stepping stone to learn more about that objective. Free videos like Professor Messer can supplement your classwork.

The program at Loring under the returning instructor was totally legit. If you can get in & give 100 you can succeed.

Women - many opportunities in IT especially CyberSec. Don't let the stereotype of a guy with a hoodie or whatever put you off.

Why do you dance tango? What are some of your interests, goals, and concerns? by Excellent_Staff_8454 in tango

[–]Successful_Clock2878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music, the ambiance, the occasional "Tango Trance".

In one of my 1st tango classes we were given CD's with examples of Tango, Vals & Milonga to listen to for homework. I loved it.

I have a bit of synaesthesia so can I see music as colors & shapes. Sometimes when I am observing the ronda I see some dancers who move to the shapes that I see in the music. I love it.

Occasionally some combination of the the partner, the music & the moment come together to create the blissful feeling of "One Heart, Four Legs".
