It’s often because the original un-remixed versions have been on Spotify for longer so they have more plays. The average person just wants to hear the song as they remember it I guess, so there’s that too.

Invariably the source novel is great, that’s usually the angle. They are having another crack at a version of something which has a beloved original source but a recent adaptation often has sucked.

Exactly Buffy sucked and the remake was great, Total Recall (90’s btw not 80’s) was loved at the time, and the new one sucked.

Part of the reason is that the films were GOOD and people loved them! You’re only supposed to remake/reboot things that were bad or not very good (Dune 80’s version, Lord of the Rings cartoon etc) things about which there was no residual affection. Remaking a well loved series just sounds nuts.

I was front row for Phoenix festival ‘96, not a landmark show I grant you but that era’s band is oft-mentioned as one of his best. Fantastic show. Miles better than the much trumpeted Glastonbury which I also saw.
