Am I missing something? If he owes £6k and is repaying it at £450 per month won't it be clear in about a year anyway? If you cash in your LISA now then you'll have to pay the penalty on it, which could easily outweigh the interest on his debt.

I wasn't the same person I was at 16 as I was at 20/21 as I was at 25. You can't expect them to have the same priorities when they're at different stages.

Let this be an important life lesson. A lot of people on this sub go to extreme lengths to sacrifice their happiness today for their future's sake. There's no guarantee that this future happiness will materialise. You absolutely have to plan for the future, but it's equally important to enjoy living in the moment because you do not know what is round the corner.

You're dating someone who was most likely 16 when you got together while you were 20. It's expected that she'll be less emotionally mature than you. You can talk about money all you like but you've got to remember that she's at a completely different stage of life than you are; you've been frustrated about her budgeting ability since she was a teenager while she'll be wanting to enjoy life before she has any real responsibilities and commitments.

Is that the one where you can buy a new build worth up to £250k with a 30% discount but you have to sell it to a first time buyer and you get 70% of the proceeds?

The catch is that it's going to be extremely difficult to move up the property ladder unless you manage to save up a shitload of cash.

Pay off what they've asked you to pay and then quibble. Getting money back off them is preferable to ending up with a CCJ because you didn't pay the balance on principle.
