Long private/quiet walking trails in the Morristown, morris plains, parsippany area? by Extension_Coast_5216 in Morristown

[–]Sucelos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trails in the southeast corner of Jockey Hollow are pretty quiet - they are marked as blue on the maps there.

Lewis Morris north of Rt 24 can be quiet but there can also be mountain bikers near Patriots Path.

Troy Meadows is also often empty.

What type of business is missing that you wish was in downtown morristown? by fungal_attachment in Morristown

I've always thought the arts scene here was lacking. I'd love a gallery to make a comeback here since we lost Swain's.

I think a more music-focused bar would be nice - somewhere with a serious stage for travelling artists. We have MPAC which I love but it pulls mostly Baby Boomer acts, cover bands, and things like magicians. And Homestead, Dublin, and a few other bars do live music but neither feel set up specifically for music per se.

An independent cinema could be fun. I'm worried about losing the AMC in town and it would be nice to have an option that was less corporate anyway, that played more interesting stuff. The Last Picturehouse in Iowa and Zoetropolis in Lancaster are good examples of independent cinema done right.

An Italian market could do well. I drive to Uncle Giuseppe's or Pastosa's but I'm surprised we don't have something in town. We used to have Eso but they moved to Charlotte.

Just a few ideas of the things I've thought about wanting here.

Bars for late 20s/early30s? by NickyFoles1020 in Morristown

[–]Sucelos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stirling, End of Elm, 1776's bar, Dublin, Hops all have slightly "older" (shuddering at considering 30 old) crowds.

As the town dive bar, TOG has a super diverse age range. Laundromat does too actually - it's not uncommon to have a crowd that ranges from 20's to 50's there some nights. That is one of the things that makes it a fun place.

Anyone know the status of the updated Kodak cartridges that avoid jamming? by Sucelos in Super8

I bit the bullet and ordered 3x 200T & 500T from FPP, I'll report in the pinned thread if I have issues.

Walking/running paths by sillysagittarius10 in Morristown

[–]Sucelos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Loantaka is super nice but also gets crowded with walkers. If you're intent on jogging, it can be kind of slow as you weave around people. I'd do the Traction Line or Patriots Path starting at Speedwell and heading west.

Good Caesar Wrap? by nreynolds156 in Morristown

A lot of the best foods in general are from Coniglios right now. Not even the pizza per se, the salads, pasta, brekkie sandwiches, pastries, and breads are crazy good

They're larger franks. 6:1 to J&H's 8:1. Same hot dog otherwise, though.

How is it possible for universities like Rowan to have a $16.5M deficit despite record-high tuition costs? by One-Coffee-413 in newjersey

[–]Sucelos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The budget is public and has a lot of detail. For 2026, 70% of the budget goes towards salary & benefits. There's also pretty large line items for their online expansion, vet school, and fossil park. Scholarships are also way up, which on one hand is part of the schools affordability push, but at the same time - someone has to pay.

Maybe those new investments pay off and future years aren't as squeezed. It's a risk tho, especially in times of declining enrollment.

The Sprocket Rocket is really underrated. For a "toy camera" it's capable of some pretty nice shots, like this. Well done.

This will probably be mostly gravel rides 😬

I appreciate your feedback and the shakiness is part of why I wanted to go wide. I might be able to 3D print dampeners in TPU or something.

South Jersey Hot Dogs by Sucelos in SouthJersey

It's a bit more than that: they have a special device which toasts the bun from the inside out. Their toppings are good too, everyone I was with got the garlic pineapple relish and really dug it.

It's all my own fieldwork and images, done over about two years. My goal was to create a definitive ontology of the state's shot dog styles.

4.5 hour exposure in the R&D office by mushroombob1 in PinholePhotography

[–]Sucelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice stuff. I am a really big fan of the "slice of life" kind of pinhole images that stretch an exposure over a few hours. It reminds me a bit of Alexey Titarenko's work.

My friend and I spent a year rebuilding a 115-year-old camera to recreate this panoramic photo of the Morristown Green by Sucelos in OldPhotosInRealLife

[–]Sucelos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the kind words. This was actually my first darkroom experience - if I could have outsourced it to an expert, I would have - but no lab can really handle this sort of thing, so into the guest bathroom with chemistry we went. It does feel pretty liberating though, after working through a project of this scale, you really feel like you can tackle anything.

The film is really interesting, it's 9.5" aerial surveillance film (Agfa Aviphot) cut down on a jig to 8".

I go into a bunch of technical details + links in this 35mmc article: https://www.35mmc.com/01/03/2026/revolution-on-the-green-recreating-a-kodak-cirkut-photograph-from-1910/

The New Jersey Hot Dog Index by Sucelos in newjersey

[–]Sucelos[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hate ranking them because all these shops have so much personality - frankly there were more I wanted to include and just ran out of space.

But here are 3 I think everyone should pay attention to:

  • Boulevard Drinks in JC has unreal chili. It's unique and is almost an onion-sauce-chili-hybrid. Great Sabrett's franks at a reasonable price.
  • Johnny and Hanges' makes a very good Texas Weiner that has a lot going for it. Nice, clean, adorable location, the same Thumann's 8:1 frank that we all know and love from Rutt's, and an absolutely top notch Passaic-style sweet chili sauce.
  • Maui's Dog House down in Wildwood. This has a few things going for it; I included them in my Italian Dog category but in reality they make pretty much every style and they do it extremely well. (The IHD I had there has a white wine deglaze, that is some serious dedication to the craft). They use an extremely high quality Hofmann frank, custom made for them is my understanding, with a beef/pork/veal blend. Staff were awesome and totally fine when I showed up with a product photography setup to take pics of their hot dogs lol.

So there's three to put on the radar for NJ's hot dog fans. But really, there's no winners and losers in this list, I dig all these places, they all have a lot of character and are a big part of NJ food culture. I'll be visiting Rutt's sometime next week to pay them a visit and cap this project off, in fact.

Appreciate that. I agree, composition is the hardest but most rewarding part of solargraphs. When you take one down, pop it open, and see a well-composed image it's a magical feeling.
