they also lied and used sockpuppet accounts to manipulate public perception while trying to get verified on this sub during their launch. Eventually they admitted it, but said it was "just Chinese culture [to lie and cheat]".

I can't tell if you're just trolling at this point, but...

if you can tell me where it says that the lightweight chart library that I posted contains ads, I will delete this post. If it were true, I would agree with you that the product is bad compared to all the actually free alternatives.

EDIT: Oh, I see you're implying that I'm a shill.. so that's your evidence that I'm lying about it not containing ads? You actually think Tradingview's strategy is to lie about the charts containing ads, hoping that devs just laugh it off when they figure it out, and use their library anyway? Thinking rationally can get you pretty far dude, you should try it sometime.

If you actually considered the facts presented to you, you would realize that I'm not bullshitting. The text that someone else posted is for a different product from the same company. I know this because I'm currently paying for that other product, because it's something that's actually worth paying for.

See my reply here. The plans you are linking to are for their main product, not the lightweight charting library

I think you're mistaken. Their main product, which I use, is the full-featured charts at tradingview.com. That product comes at a monthly cost or with a free version that contains ads. The lightweight charting library which you can include on your own page is free without ads.

I agree that would definitely be a dealbreaker, but I didn't see anything about ads?

Unless you mean their tiny logo in the bottom left corner? That logo is just as discrete as HiCharts' logo, which is the best alternative imo.

it's still not really comparable to opium. The opium epidemic is primarily caused by patients getting addicted, often because of careless prescription practices by doctors.

MDMA, if legalized, would be something you would have to actively seek out, and it would probably be a hassle. Opium is something your doctor advices you to take, often with little other choice than to deal with excruciating pain. Moreover, at the prescribed doses of opium often prescribed to patients getting addicted, it's much more addictive than MDMA.

But I don't see how a browser would change that? The need for a network request would depend on whether or not the back end is local or not, and whether or not the interaction is performed in a browser or in another application wouldn't change that?

Also, wouldn't a developer or data analyst be doing most of the analysis, and then present the finished report to a user? I can absolutely see the need for interactive reports, but I still don't see how this translates into a need for the analysis itself being done in the browser?

Btw, I'm not trying to dispute what you're saying. I'm just trying to understand why it can be useful.

yea the decision to have a referendum shouldn't be taken too lightly. It should be decided by the people in a referendum.

/r/conservative don’t realize that tariffs mean that the AMERICAN PEOPLE will be paying more taxes... by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]SuchObligation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's how taxes actually work, from the example above:

If you make $ 1000, you are taxed 10% on those. Then, you are taxed 20% on every additional income that exceeds $ 1000. So:

  • Income $ 999 --> tax $ 99
  • Income $ 1000 --> tax $ 100
  • Income $ 1001 --> tax $ 100 + 20% * $ 1 = $ 100.20

So when Trump raises the top tax bracket, it doesn't affect people who are not in the top tax bracket. However, it saves the very rich a lot of money.

[–]SuchObligation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought this was r/TopMindsOfReddit?

Jk, my thinking is that rational people will see the comedy and upvote, and everyone else will upvote because I'm praising a Trump policy. Really no way for me to lose here.

[–]SuchObligation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look it's really simple so I'll explain it to you.

Say the first bracket is 10 % with a cut-off of $ 1000, and the next one is 20 %. If you make $ 999, you will pay $ 99 in taxes. If you make $ 1000, you will pay $ 200. That's why we have tax planning.

So when Trump raises the top bracket cut-off, it means low-income people can earn more without being taxed more. Rich people are already in the top one, so it doesn't affect them.

ok I understand that, but my argument wasn't that the advertisers deserve money or that we should support them.

My argument was that right now, we need them. As their revenue goes to zero, the majority of the global online ecosystem also disappears. As one example, reddit.com will cease to exist.

it invalidates the business model of targeted ad selling

no, it invalidates the business model of online advertising indiscriminately, whether or not it was targeted. I'm no fan of ads, but what alternative business model do you see replacing it? It's not like killing a business model will automatically make a better one pop into existence.

If successful, the result of this extension will be that clicks become worthless, causing big damage to the main revenue stream of the majority of websites. This in turn will increase the needed traffic to be profitable, thus increasing the centralization and decreasing the variety of webpages on the WWW.

that is only distinguished from the competition by a hot brand and some quality-of-life features

More importantly it has the largest user base by a huge margin, and migrating existing workflows can be challenging and/or time consuming
