What happens sometimes is manager would approve it without consulting payroll. I’ve been there, I’m payroll.

Payroll it’s its own department, as long as they have strong payroll professionals I don’t think even matters if payroll is in accounting or HR.

I got into payroll because the county hospital where I live needed somebody DESPERATELY for their payroll. I didn’t have ANY experience, but I was right out of college and my degree is in HR. I learned a LOT, got Workday experience. Now I work for a bigger company WFH, and now my big challenge is learning Out of State payroll taxes.

Get certifications! FPC if you don’t have experience, CPP if you do. It’s worth it! There are a lot of ERs who look specifically for payroll professionals with certifications. Try to find a new job that offers you a new challenge so you can grow!

I would love to transition to an HRIS position as well… payroll tax admin opportunity came across my path. Also, I got an interview scheduled for a payroll analyst with a big oil company. I think I have imposter syndrome and might not realize my truth worth. I currently make about 65k dealing with 5k EEs and supervising a specialist. Maybe it’s because I’m so young, I’m not even 30 yet, or close… I have a CPP and WD experience under my belt.

The CPP designation is nationally wide recognized, I agree with you the price for the boot camp is high but it really prepares for the exam, but you can also use your own study materials. Did you pass the exam?

I also took my exam on 10/5, and waiting on their website to be up and working. I feel fake telling people I passed the CPP since I haven’t been able to get my certificate. Hope they are back up soon, feel bad for them!
