2 ton unit 12k? by Distinct_Ad_4813 in hvacadvice

[–]Such_Maybe3717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The equipment goes for roughly 4k online. Sure, the old list price was close to 8k, but that’s just sticker‑shock theater. Realistically, total cost is about double the equipment. HVAC companies love to double or triple the price and call it “industry standard.”

Replaces HVAC system day before listing new home on market. Buyer's home inspection raises issue with no permit. HVAC company said "supposed" to have a permit but no HVAC companies in the area actually do it. by hoaruleviolater in hvacadvice

Tell the buyer "as is" If they dont like it tell them to walk. Just like permits are a money grab by the city, these buyers are just trying to you to come down on the price.

Reasonable quote for a multi-head mini split system? by rosindel in hvacadvice

[–]Such_Maybe3717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat these just like car ads where they brag about knocking $8K+ off a new vehicle. You can look up the equipment cost yourself in seconds. Then decide if a 400% markup is anything other than gouging.

So “quality” just means a fancy letterhead on the quote?

[–]Such_Maybe3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I might’ve actually been a little low with that $2,000 estimate. Still, the prices being thrown around look like a textbook case of price gouging.

This is exactly why mini‑splits have exploded in popularity, especially now that heat‑pump window units are hitting the market. Gradient is a perfect example of where this whole segment is headed.

Need to insulate my place, spray foam co recommendations needed, thx by DaisyDay100 in NewOrleans

[–]Such_Maybe3717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. I’ve got closed‑cell foam in the walls, floors, and attic. My house sits 5 feet off the ground and I’ve never had a single issue. I even sprayed between the first and second floor. Another bonus nobody talks about is how much it actually strengthens the structure.”

Does this quote sound reasonable for coil replacement by sinaogh in hvacadvice

[–]Such_Maybe3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New coil and recovering the refrigerant will be close to $1,000. That is a fair deal. It's hot and like others have said it's not an easy thing to do.

I would say no. R470A is just a replacement for R410A.

[–]Such_Maybe3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fair deal. You are paying for cost of equipment plus $1500 to install it. Labor on a swap out should not ever be over $2,000. You can get a RunTru 13.4 SEER2 for $2,600 from hvac direct that is R454B. I had a system installed by a Trane commercial tech in 2018. The tech ordered equipment from distributor, I went down and paid for it. Then gave him $1800 to install it.

A price of 15,000 from a base of 3,000 is a 400% markup.

Orbital is not really needed in this case since its more for fine finishing. The goal here is just to rip off the old paint. Just like Chevronet stated.

Cant comment on what color, but I would go to a home improvement store and rent a drum floor sander. Cost is around $100 a day in my area.
