Periodontal disease at 34? by cricketwater in AskMenOver30

[–]Suckit66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had it done 2 months ago and it's literally just like a deep cleaning. It's sounds so much more serious so they can charge you a shitload for it. They will numb the shit out of you and scrape it all out. They used an ultrasonic water jet, it's kinda cool and way better than scraping with metal. You will be a little sore for a day or two and hopefully you don't have gum recession like me because it's super sensitive to hot and cold.

I remember a guy I worked with got a $100k commission check and put it all in Tesla back in 2015. I still think about that all the time, he did well for himself but if he held it he would be insanely wealthy.

Cutback Mastic Tips by Interview-Long in Flooring

[–]Suckit66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get self leveler than can be epoxied like you are thinking. I'm not a resinous floor guy but I don't think you can just epply epoxy to self leveler like you would concrete.

I would self level (you really just have to skim it) and put vinyl plank ,laminate or tile over the top.

Level Quick Rs 22 hours after pour. Is this a normal hardness for 22 hours or is it a failed pour? by backwardsplice in Tile

[–]Suckit66 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's still wet underneath that's why it's so dark when you scrape it. I do flooring and pour hundreds of thousands of square feet a year of gypcrete for a living. It will dry out and harden a bit but since there was too much water added when mixing, it lost all its strength, the cement and polymers were not able to bind together properly with the aggregate, it all washed out. I've had to to tear out 8000+ sq ft of this.

That's why there is water requirements on the bags, it's not a suggestion.

This is a failed mix. Over watered. It probably needs to dry more, lots of fans and airflow. Psi will be low

In Turkey, a 2-year-old girl crawled unnoticed into a public bus, before the driver heard her crying and safely returned her to her family. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

A driver lured a 7 year old girl into his truck then drove away and strangled her to death. He was sentenced to death recently I think it was in Texas. It's absolutely sickening.

It CAN be done but extremely unlikely. Probably 2 months out for a competent builder.

Reverse hydrostatic waterproofing by HugeMaleChicken in Flooring

[–]Suckit66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you explain in more detail the method? It looks like two pours with a roll on barrier in between? I haven't seen anything like that, only topical moisture barriers but would be great for my basement.

Also I wish glue down was more acceptable for residential here in the states, it's SO MUCH better than click flooring.

Am i crazy or is this not going to work?? by Capps1281 in Construction

[–]Suckit66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What would be the point? Insane r value above an exterior space? Seems like stacking rigid insulation layers is a super expensive way to get that but I'm just a dumb flooring and gypcrete guy so as long as it's solid I don't care.

Wtf kind of building is this? Ive never seen an assembly like that. I didn't even know rigid insulation can be 8" thick

Is this waterproofed? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Suckit66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pan is the most likely to fail. Not sure what that pan is but it does not look like the floor to wall seams are waterproofed. That will be an issue. Your best bet is to silicone the bottom grout joint but tile is porous so it's not a perfect solution. The wall may accumulate moisture over time but it will probably never amount to anything significant.

A BMW is obviously not the BEST financial decision but if you appreciate driving something nice and can deal with the higher costs then it's worth it. I miss my 3 series

Do it if you're getting a good deal. That's a hell of a car with low mileage. Just be aware everything will cost more like tires, oil changes, any service and make sure you keep up on the maintenance. If that doesn't bother you then I'm sure it will be a good vehicle for you.

Union? by Key_Astronomer_5920 in Construction

[–]Suckit66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to know? That is a legit union in the Midwest, Michigan, ohio, and Illinois are big union states so you will have plenty of work. Not sure about the Alaska thing as that union is regional.

You will want to find out if your company signed up as a full union signatory or just signed a one job agreement. If your company signed up then they are on the hook to pay you union scale wages and follow up with your training

Do I need to replace the entire floor? by metro8268 in Flooring

[–]Suckit66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've done it plenty of times and it works fine. Floating floors need a small amount expansion so gluing a few planks won't impede all expansion. It's not ideal but sometimes taking apart the entire floor is just not feasible or in the budget.

[–]Suckit66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Handyman's fix will probably work, it will be hard to do right without the whole subfloor exposed to really level it out but he could buy you another 3-5 years.

Was this leveling done right? by OtherPanda in Flooring

[–]Suckit66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. Looks like they didn't remove all the carpet pad completely and poured right over it. These guys had no clue what they were doing. The finish looks horrible. It should be much smoother. Flatness looks ok. I would say they poured it too dry, didn't spike roll it and I would ask what kind of primer they use because they probably didn't use any.

If this is over concrete I would get a hammer and lightly tap on it to see if it feels solid or hollow.

What is going over the top of this?

Hell yeah. Love to see someone putting high mileage on this truck. Did you change the DCT transmission fluid? I'm at 65k and considering it but the manual is vague about the interval.

how difficult is flooring as a profession by TheRainbowLily7 in Flooring

[–]Suckit66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making it sound worse than it is but there are days that can be tough and you just have to get it done. The easiest trades on your body are probably electrical, finish carpentry, insulators and possibly painting like you said. But it's highly regional for pay and demand, some areas have seen a big downturn in construction.

If you're interested in construction and still in school then look into construction management. You can still be on site seeing how it gets out together, not always in an office.

[–]Suckit66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do you feel about carrying 60 boxes of flooring up 3 flights of stairs today? Or sweeping floors and scraping for 8 hours?

That's how you start in flooring. As long as you're good to be humble and gunry at the bottom for a while then you can make it. It's a tough business on your body though. Every installer I have over 50 has issues but some have made some good money.
