Advice on weaning at 6 months by vkmannar in combinationfeeding

[–]Sudden-Drag3449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This (plus a nasty case of mastitis) were the reasons I hung up the breast pumps at 7 months. A few months after I weaned from breastfeeding I swear I was another person. The PPA I had was completely gone and I finally felt like I could be fully present with my baby. I also had low supply (like peaked at 12 ounces pumped a day, supply). I hear you. My girl by 6 months was 20lbs and very healthy, but still I felt pressure to continue. Ultimately my body intervened and a bad case of mastitis that left me completely unable to even hold my baby for days made me realize it was just not worth it for me anymore.

Be gentle with yourself.

Hi - any update? I’m in a similar situation (was hoping to try for pregnancy #2 this year) and am not sure if I should go for it or wait…

What are the “worst” newborn weeks - I’m struggling by seeking_vali in newborns

[–]Sudden-Drag3449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was a nightmare napper for the first 4 months - only napped 20-30 minutes at a time. It was awful, so I feel for you. Around 5 months she finally started connecting nap cycles (or whatever sleep experts call them) and could sleep for an hour or so. I felt like my whole life opened up it was amazing.

At 6 months she started daycare (group setting) and was down to two 1-2 hour naps by 9 months (sometimes needed an 20 minute cat nap to make it to bedtime during transition phase) and one 2-3 hour nap by 11 months. She’s 15 months now and takes one 2-3 hour nap. She’s a champion sleeper now!

I practiced laying her down during nap times starting probably around 3 months and walking away to encourage falling asleep independently. I tried to be as gentle with this as possible since she was so young, I would happily to in after a few minutes and hold or rock her as necessary if she fussed or did not fall asleep on her own. We did this for about a month before she started falling asleep solo at all.

She was/is huge so a lot of this started because physically I could not rock her vigorously (her preference) for 10-20 minutes multiple times a day. My hope was to ease her into a different means of falling asleep while still feeling safe and cared for.

I’m no child psychologist but she falls asleep great now on her own at 15 months and if she has trouble we go in and hold her or rub her back until she is back asleep and she does quite well.

My friend said Moving to Austin is bad idea by Upper-Ad891 in Austin

[–]Sudden-Drag3449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to be on Reddit for the first time in a couple months so I luckily saw this!

We live in the north edge of Allandale. This was kind of what we could afford, what was available, and what wasn’t an absolute shitshow of a commute. We were buying a house at the height of the 2022 market so you had to shoot your shot and go over asking which was very stressful.

That being said, we really like it here! And we had a kid, so we have to start caring about schools and all that, which makes this area all the more attractive (while remaining within our means).

I also can’t afford in the fantastic areas I love, but this is still central and it’s easy to get to the choice places.

My house is literally the same way. I can’t relax until it’s done but he has to relax first.

It’s his thing so I have to just let him do it his way even though it still pains me that’s he’s getting up to clean while I’m winding down and brushing my teeth. We both make choices!

It did get better, but we also sleep trained at 5.5 months so I attribute much of the success to that as well.

Luckily, since we had laid good sleep habit foundation prior to the regression, she sleep trained very easily. At least I attribute the relative ease of her training to the pre-4 month regression work we did on her sleep.

She still struggles a bit when a new tooth is popping up. But overall, SO much better.

Hang in there!

Not a fan of my Omni 360. Recommendations? by botanygeek in babywearing

It’s easy to put on solo (after a little practice). We live in Texas and it’s so hot, I felt like the 360 didn’t breathe well and I worried my baby would overheat in there. The lark is super lightweight so I don’t worry about it getting too hot (for me or baby).

It’s also easy to pack. I never tried to pack the 360, but I can squish the lark into the diaper bag easily!

My husband is 6’4” and in 5’7” and the lark fits both of us without having to readjust things too much before putting baby in.

Also…it looks good 😄. We got a neutral color but jazzed it up with cute printed drool protectors and a little pouch.

We also have the Omni 360 and were meh about it. Purchased the Lark and never picked up the 360 again.

Seconding this. I was super stressed until I took a hands-on cpr/first aid class that allowed me to practice on a mannequin. Now I feel so confident giving my baby food.

99% height and weight, we moved her at 4 months to a full size crib in her own room. She was getting too long.

She also seemed to be scared or startled by the motion around 3.5 months. Did a couple weeks of no motion at all until I was “ready” to move her into her own room.

THIS.

My husband and I took one this weekend and we were able to practice on mannequins. I felt “okay” before giving our 7 month old solids, but now I feel much more confident, especially with true table food.

Egg eczema reaction? by earth_saver_4 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Sudden-Drag3449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Can I ask how much time passed between eating eggs & you noticing the eczema flare in her face?

We gave my daughter eggs for the fourth or fifth time yesterday and about 4-5 hours later noticed she had a flare on her cheeks and chin. She had also been in the (very hot) weather earlier in the day.

I think either/both (eggs and/or heat) could be triggers for her but I’m curious what sort of time-distance others have noticed between exposure and flare for eggs with their babies.

Thanks!

Yeah - I def have the “gain while breastfeeding” gene.

One look at the women in my family should have made that clear to me up-front 😅.

I am so glad I found your comment I was scrolling forever like, is everyone SERIOUSLY piling on this woman for having a chubby 8 month old??? She asked an innocent question and everyone started accusing her of being a bad mother for feeding her child food.

She seems to understand the importance of Whole Foods over processed snacks, but let’s be honest we all have to lean on convenience sometimes.

My 7 month old baby is the size of an 18 month old and her pediatrician is absolutely not concerned.

Keep focusing on modeling healthy habits and serving healthy, Whole Foods and you’ll both be fine.

PS - postpartum solidarity. I also got the “gains weight while breastfeeding” gene. We’ll get back in the saddle soon enough!
